Why is he discussed so much here? He seems like a decent guy. He had a chance to go home and took it. I do not understand the bad feelings some people have against him.

Wouldn’t we ?
Polly has some splainin’ to do for that one. I’m sure he was summoned to BA’s office first thing Sunday morning.
Totally inexcusable.
Well they’re gonna get crushed next week. If they win out their regular season after that, even if they get crushed by OSU again in the B10. champ game, they will probably finish top 10 and play in a NY day bowl.UW was ranked 6th last year before finishing 7-5. Even with the pathetic schedule this year- you can still see 3-4 loses.

Even if they went into the Illinois game overrated, they are 10 times better than Illinois and had no excuse to lose that game.
The 2 4th quarter turnovers were killer.UW outgained them by about a hundred yards but gave half of that back in penalties. Both missed FGs. Illinois had that TD called back. Basically they looked similarly talented. The 3 turnovers was a big deal in this game. I will say this- the UW defense looked really bad especially when Illinois ran left.
Chryst needs to accept that JT needs 30 - 35 carries a game. Taking ball out of your best weapon's hands from the 2 is mind-numbingly stupid coaching.
I don’t want to go through this again...he took over a literal dumpster fire.
God Bless you but the Illini outside of their comeback against Michigan and the Wisky game really haven’t improved under Lovie. He most likely saved his job on Saturday..In his defense Lovie Smith is THE best x's and o's coach in the Big Ten. He doesn't have the players yet but he has been building and they are a year away from competing for division titles
People SIGNIFICANTLY underestimate just how good of a job Chryst did here. Yeah, he went 6-6 but a lesser coach by the second year could have been going 3-9.
Yes, I have a hard time when your aspirations are so low that you offer kids whose only other offers are from MAC or sub-MAC schools.
As a stabilizing figure, he did an admirable job. Saying no to the return of Rushel Shell was actually a big move in restoring a better face to the program (and James Conner ended up being better anyway.) The Wanny era arrest type reports faded away. And clearly he's been very good at Wisconsin.
The only problem with hiring him was the nearly inevitable pull back to Wisconsin. And that, like the (even more ready to leave) Todd Graham hire, helped end the second Pederson era.
Good point on the QB recruiting. I guess Hornibrook would be our QB right now. I’ll take Kenny Pickett, with his flaws...was here three seasons and showed no signs of progress on the field or on the recruiting trail.

Yet these were mostly the players that Chaney and Canada used to produce some really good offenses with. The notable failure of Chryst was recruiting at the critical quarterback position. Which is strange considering he's been very good at coaching up quarterbacks generally.

No one could have foreseen Bielema leaving for Arkansas. Given how hard Alverez campaigned and called in favors to get Chryst the HC job here, he burned some serious bridges swiping him back so soon.was here three seasons and showed no signs of progress on the field or on the recruiting trail.

I thought the same thing....but then I realized he was suffering from having guys like Jeff George Jr be his prize qb recruit smh.......If he could get a Juice Williams type qb they instantly are 4 wins better. Lovie is going for the Wisconsin philosophy of getting guys who can develop and play 4th and 5th year guys against good teams with the hope experience can win 50/50 games.......For my sake i hope he succeeds cause my family goes crazy over the decline of Illinois since the Ron Zook glory years lolGod Bless you but the Illini outside of their comeback against Michigan and the Wisky game really haven’t improved under Lovie. Dude has been in Madison for decades
If Pitt people are listening to Alvarez , shame on them
BA's gonna do what BA wants to do. Pretty sure he's never been a guy who's worried about ruffling feathers outside the state of Wisconsin when it comes down to doing what he thinks is best to run his program. If Gary Andersen had been willing to stick around and toe the BA line, PC might still be here.No one could have foreseen Bielema leaving for Arkansas. Just sharing what I know. Alvarez has/had a lot of relationships in this area and I can understand with his rep of success that PITT entertained his recommendation. Honestly I think you're being a bit paranoid. What bridges were built Or needed?

Great underrated obscure movie reference. Haven't seen that thing in many years. Might have to dust it off.exactly, reminds me of that movie Big Night when the brothers thought the rival restaurant owner was trying to help them. Why would Alvarez care about Pitt at all?

Last I heard those guys were still sitting in their empty restaurant waiting for Louis Prima to show up.
