I always wonder how some people are defined in current times. Like I grew up around a lot of Syrians, and I always totally considered all of them white people, now I am told they are not. Also to me, a lot of Hispanics, Mexicans, Cubans etc. seem like white people, darker, but white, like Italians or Greeks. Steven Adams always seemed white to me.

In the super racist 1800s, Irish, Italians, and especially Jews, were not considered white, at least not in America. Arabs, and Middle Easterners can range from people white enough to join the Klan, to people who look like Latinos, or even black Americans. Latinos are a mix of races, and they vary according to country. Argentinians are mostly white, while a large percentage of Mexicans are Mestizo (white/Native mix). In the nations in and around the Caribbean, slavery was well established, and there tends to be a large tri-racial population (black/white/Native mixture) Roberto Clemente was a Latino, but was obviously also black. Where it becomes harder is with someone like ARod. How do you categorize him? He's pretty light complected, but has obvious African ancestry. He looks more like what we think of as a black guy than Derek Jeter does, who is generally considered black.
