David Wannstedt. That's it.

Regarding bowl games, if DW had the benefit of a 12 game schedule like his successors and added a cupcake Pitt would have been eligible in 2005 and won the minimum in 2006. Our lousy fan base, fewer bowls, and lousy conference tie ins are more responsible than DW for sitting at home.

Or he could have beaten the Ohio Bobcats in 2005, and beat either a 4-8 Michigan State team or a 4-8 UConn squad in 2006.

What were the shots during the OSU an FIU games? ESPN was plastering pictures of our fans sleeping in their seats, what did Dave say? What did he say during the FIU game? .

His standard generic shot at his former bosses, on national television. This conveniently happened to occur right when Pitt was finally starting to show some signs of life under Paul Chryst. Which means Chryst is stuck with the distraction of having to address Wannstedt's comments. Naturally, Pitt then goes to lose the next three games (including Akron)

Mission Accomplished

Btw, Jeff Locke was once an All-Star.

Tied for with losses to the teams it tied with.

Tied with wvu for second in 2009 , for example- but lost to wvu head to head.

It’s why we went to a bad bowl in charlotte vs the acc 5th place Unc and they went to the gator.

Yep. Same with finishing tied with UConn and WVU in 2010, but losing to both.
The outlier is the 2008 season, where Pitt finished tied with WVU and Rutgers, but all three went 1-1 against each other (and all losing to Cincy). One can make a case for a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th place finish depending that person's inclination.

As far as his predecessor, he should have been criticized - it was a sh*tty hire and Wannstadt got shafted by our toolbox AD at the time. This program needed stability, OEther ... Wannstadt knew they had it, and knew it took recruiting to win --- and Pederson DID NOT, he was the one who sabotaged this university with the way things went down with Wannstadt and the subsequent hire. Wannstadt was the Head Coach and recruited most of the ONLY 10-win team this university has seen in the last 30 years, so I think he knows what it takes to win.

They both sucked. Wanny won 10 games in a s*it conference, with the best players. He should have won 12 games.

I do agree with the context matters, however the only point - and I'm not necessarily defending the Stache, but he peaked higher than 3rd

I typically enjoy and agree with your posts, but what part of my post at the end was a lie? They did finish 2nd, 2nd and tied for 1st in those years going 5 - 2 in conference in each
There are tiebreakers for a reason and you didn't even indicate ties, but just places. The biggest reason the tiebreakers matter is DW always lost those type of games. The game was allergic to winning. It sucks because he no doubt would have been the perfect fit, if he could win even some of the time.
