Psu starts 0-5 and has a second scandal. Narduzzi while not perfect guides us through all 11 games during a pandemic, loses multiple stars multiple weeks with a brutal schedule. I’m not sticking up for narduzzi as a perfect coach but local news is straight up garbage. Pitt needs to upgrade its on news outlet and ignore the local garbage. Pitt has a decent class coming in we finally have close to a dozen guys getting drafted. Find the positive and support the home town team. These kids never quit all year in a real tough situation. Yea I’d love to be 11-0 but at least when I turn on the tv my Pitt panthers play hard every night.

This board doesn’t do that. Why should we expect Jerry to do that?

The comment about 11 years with at least 5 losses is a low blow and shows his anti Pitt bias. Jerry needs to stick to the more positive angle that is mentioned here, about Pitt losing at least 3 every year since Jackie.

I think Jerry tries to be fair but has the same ole pitt syndrome after being beaten down for 20 years.
How would Pitt 'upgrade' their news outlet? Buy the local papers? The Trib editor is a stater (Bombolie), he'd probably replace Jerry with another stater to cover Pitt like the PG did.

hes not wrong.

Who could ever forget this Pulitzer Prize-worthy interview after the first week of Fall Camp?

JERRY D.: "What style of running back would you consider yourself?"

PITT FRESHMAN: "I'm a defensive back."

JERRY D.: "Oh, you"re a defensive back? Thanks..."

Your point is well taken. However, he is stating the truth, it was a huge disappointment. Some things were out of their control, but even with the schedule change they should have been at least 8-3

I don't know if the term "huge" is necessary but I dont think anyone is particularly excited about a 6-5 season with two premier defensive ends, a 3 year starter at qb, etc. etc. etc.

Ultimately the wins are how you measure success. But there are still important details within wins and losses to evaluate this team. I think even the most partisan Pitt fan can’t be that surprised Pitt lost to Clemson. But in year 6 to come out and get completely embarrassed like they did in the first quarter was a failure. I know Trevor was back and Clemson was out to show the world. Still that was a huge dent in Pitt’s perception.

Dont forget ND wiping the floor with Pitt, especially when several posters here predicted a Pitt win

Not sure I'd classify it as a huge disappointment, so I disagree with that sentiment. I believe consensus by us board experts was in the 7-4 range.

They got blown out by the two best teams they played, which happen to be ranked #2 and #3 in the country. They also lost 2 games by 1 point, but neither matters because a loss is a loss.

You must be new here. Prepare to be hammered. Real Pitt fans only talk about the positives in the program.

I don't know about yinz, but the 5 loss thing IS maddening.
Like I have said in a tweet,
With a bunch of NFL draft picks or without, with an experiences Sr QB or without, with a running game or without, with a good offense or without, with a good defense or without, with this coach or that coach, Pitt will finish around 7-5.

The two biggest strengths of this year’s Pitt team were Pickett on offense and the linemen on D. Our offense was without Pickett against a very good ND defense. Our future NFL DL was negated by a future NFL OL and a veteran QB with excellent pocket presence and mobility. I don’t care if fans were predicting a win based upon past years. Pitt had no chance in that game and I am not really surprised by the outcome. Disappointed, yes, but not surprised. Against Clemson in the first, we looked like Austin Peay against us in that first quarter.

Its a disappointment with the 6-5 but the two one point losses happened and changed the course of the season. With this being Covid season Pitt did not get any favors with the schedule plus getting Clemson. ND game Pickett did not play defense can't be out there every 3 and out for the offense. Pitt lost to three top ten teams. They have to beat the teams they should beat. A lot of talent on this team but the game is won at the LOS and Pitt has to get the offensive and O line built up to win consistently. The defense should be strong for the near future need the offense to match it.

Yeah I think mostly the headline pissing Pitt fans off.

which it should.

no doubt pitts season was a disappointment

BUT PSU was ranked highly and started 0-5!! Including getting beat by a bad Nebraska team starting a RB at QB.

now they have beaten 3 teams with 6 combined wins (with mighty Illinois on the slate next) so they’ll probably go to a bowl at 4-5.

god forbid they win that and we’ll have to hear how they have so much momentum they have and how much they persevered.

Not sure why Tim Benz is using a Jerry quote for an article but he's spot on. Most NFL talent in years (whether it's via the draft or a camp invite), terrific pass rush, senior quarterback and you only go 6-5. Yeah, I was pretty disappointed. I will never understand why people get so upset when writer's write what we are all saying or thinking.

If he knew anything about the program he probably would have guessed that 6-5 was a very likely outcome. That’s where most of this board was at in September.

Actually if you read the record prediction thread most people thought 7 or 8 wins.

However 6-5 was always one of the most likely outcomes, because as I said at the time we "should" win 8 but we will blow one game we should win, so we'd go 7-4. But in the end it surely shouldn't surprise any that we blew two games we should have won rather than just one. And it was certainly a lot more likely we'd lose two that we should win rather than that we'd win one or two more than we should have.

He was a self professed “not a Pitt fan” who has been the Pitt beat writer for not even 3 years. He was butt hurt when his negative articles lead Narduzzi to close practices to the media and he had been spiteful ever since.

He knows zippo about any of the players.

He knows no insiders. He gets no inside information

He is a lazy writer who thinks he gets readers from negative, challenging comments. He is wrong

Curios, who is a good writer for Pitt in your opinion?
