Gallagher had 20. They could make their first WPIAL Final since 1972. Ironically, the team they beat, Penn Hills, could have had Jalen Hood-Schifino if his family didn't make the basketball-related move to NC. Its interesting to see the different paths these 2 high-level local prospects are taking. JHS went to NC and then is coming back home to play in college. Gallagher has said he's not moving away for HS ball and seems to have a great deal of pride in LH. For me, I take that to mean he is likely to stay local for college so Pitt or WVU. Would be interesting to see a Starting 5 in 4 years of Jeffress, JHS, and Gallagher. 3 locals.

Gallagher scored a game high 20 vs TJ last night to lead LH to the WPIAL Final Friday night vs Mars. Magical run for LH. Hopefully Gallagher has many more games in future years at the Pete.

BTW, former Pitt Safety, Dom Decicco coaches TJ

Wow, he must have aged.

Quite a program in the 60s and early 70s. I saw LH play in the Johnstown War Memorial Tournament in "68 when they had Will Robinson and Jimmy Hobgood.

Who knows what the young man will decide, but I actually think him staying local for high school makes it more likely he will want a change of scenery for college.

About calling Laurel Highlands local, has that school always been in the WPIAL?

Yeah. But if he Pitt would much more be "getting away" than WVU or even PSU.

I don't know. The kid lives in friggin Uniontown and is fired up to play for Laurel Highlands when he could play for Oak Hill or some other factory and be treated like a pro. Maybe he just isnt about all that and wants to stay home for college

He said he wants to put he's school on the map and didn't want to go to a prep school.

Maybe he didn’t want to go to a boarding school with 160 kids !

LH beat Mars 52-51. Gallagher had 24 points and sank the game winning FT with 4 seconds left. He swished both with the game on the line.

Kid is special. LH won 4 games last year. They probably dont make the playoffs without him. With this FRESHMAN, they win it all.

I cant believe Capel hasnt offered yet. He has McDonald's All-American potential. He scored 24 of LH's 52 tonight and 20 of 44 vs TJ in the semis. He has basically single-handedly won his school a WPIAL championship. I know its just the WPIAL but this is a freshman. At this rate, he has to look into go the Will Jeffress route. What's he going to do as a senior at LH? Average 45 PPG?

BTW, the Carmody kid going to ND for football.... he averages 20 and 20? I know he's huge but 20 and 20? I dont know I've ever seen that as an average on any level.

And not that we're keeping score but it was yours truly who brought Gallagher to the attention of this board, as an unheard of 8th grader. The legend of SMF continues to grow.

lmao unheard of freshman?!! That’s all anyone from this area heard about. “Have you heard about this kid that plays with lebron’s boy?” “Hey that kid plays with Bronny”

Get over yourself.

Try again:

Why would he go the Will Jeffress way? If you know him like you say you would already know that he said he's not doing prep schools because he wants to put his school on the map! His WORDS!!!!
Guess what if they win 2 or 3 championships his school will be on the map.

Football. Will be surprised if he doesn’t choose football in college too.

Why would Capel offer him already? He has zero REAL offers. Illinois “offered” to appease his aau coaches in hopes of landing Jalen Bridges. Rhode Island head coach David Cox has never watched him as head coaches didn’t want 15U last year. No reason to offer him this early

Also, Ed Buzzy Harrison, who was a darn good player for us until a thing called grades got in his way.

Yes you did. Pat yourself on the back just after wondering why Capel hasn't offered this FRESHMAN yet.

There are several reasons to offer early. Granted he is only six feet tall and would need to grow a few inches to be big time. The reasons to get in early are simple. He is highly talented with elite quickness and gets good elevation on his jumper which allows him to get it off over taller players. He is a clutch player making key shots and free throws when it matters most. He is poised and maybe most notably, a leader.

I was at the Pete last night for the game. His team gains confidence from him and follows the example he sets for them. They believe in him and trust when the game is on the line he is going to make the winning play. Down 51-50 he cooly went to the line as a 9th grader and sank to free throws to win the game. The second one which was the game winner didn't even touch any iron.

I think if you go see the kid play you would understand what I am talking about. There is no fear of anyone or anything, just beaming confidence in his ability. Others feed off his example. Pitt needs a guy like him. These kids we have now just don't have this kind of kid to lead them. Go watch him in a state playoff game if you get a chance. He is going to be special.
Get in now and keep him at home. Enter late, and lose out on a special kid.

I agree with you that we should offer. Some kids have the “IT” factor, and he is one of them. I would actually advise Capel and Narduzzi to both offer him. You could sell him on the idea that he could play both sports if that is what he truly wants to do, or just play one sport if he prefers. Make him feel wanted by the University of Pittsburgh.

If any of yinz are going to the 4A Champ game this year. A kid to watch is Johnny Crise of Highlands. He would undoubtedly win the WPIAL dunk contest. He is good for a few highlight dunks a game. He's 6'6". He's a kid I wish Pitt spent more time looking at and recruiting for football. Penn State offered him a PWO and he is going there as a WR.

I’ve seen the 5’11 PG with an inconsistent shot play dozens of times against real competition. Not freaking MARS. He needs to improve a lot to be a HM basketball player.

Good chance this is all moot and he plays football though.

Did he have any decent offers for football or basketball?

Wow you follow Gallagher around, scary!

Come on, man. He's one of the top 5 players in the WPIAL as a freshman which might make him the best freshman in the WPIAL in decades.....or maybe ever. I have heard he is better than his former AAU teammate Bronny James. The kid is going to be big-time. If he grows, he'll be a Micky D's. If he doesn't, he'll be a solid ACC level starter. You offer now to be the first one in. We offered Puff Johnson super late.....last April only a week or 2 before everyone else in America did.

If North Carolina offers like they did with Puff, were not getting him anyways. At least you’re only putting McDonald’s AA expectations on a freshmen not currently ranked in the top 50’freshmen in the country because he beat Mars. Seriously, too early to be drinking.

Boom
But come on- dude is a talent
Not denying he’s got the potential to be very good. Not gonna judge how good he is based on him playing MARS as a freshmen and no reason to do anything but monitor him as of now. If he has a big summer on the 16U circuit, then you begin to turn the heat up. Doing it before that would be a mistake.

There has to be something special still to a Pitt offer. If we just go around throwing offers early just to say we offered early we will be the next Georgia tech, DePaul, etc. that these aau guys go to get an offer to get more offers.

I have seen 8-10 Highlands games this season and last season. Johnny Crise has been fun to watch. He can really explode off the floor and finish big time. I don't know about football though. He is a pretty good athlete, but even playing receiver, he is going to have to make that body stronger.
They have a nice team, and hope they go to the state title game. They would have a reasonable shot if the Myers kid shoots like he did today.
