Heather Lyke Article in my local paper

Pitt can't do the same thing and hope 60K-70K show up so it provides a good gameday atmosphere.

70K is too big for Pitt, too big for TCU, Stanford, Oregon, Texas Tech, etc. There is no reason why Pitt shouldn't close off sections with or without tarping to move people closer together so the place looks and feels more full.

Several posters have shown pictures of other venues that tarp their stadiums/arenas and fill the lower bowl. They all look great and provide a much better game day atmosphere. Not sure of the logistics of tarping and untarping for the steelers game but I cant imagine it would be that hard. LIke you said the problem isnt the size of the fan base as much as it is the size of the stadium.

How about a tarp with a Sergeant Peppers motif?
That would be cool.

I had a tee shirt back when I was in school that showed a section of Pitt Stadium that was filled with fans. If you looked closely many of the fans in the design were famous people. The one that I remember the most because it was so completely random is that the Marlboro Man was in the picture. They ought to do something like that, with random Pitt greats in the crowd.

At the last game I was trying to visualize what I think would be an awesome way to tarp the tv side upper deck. Have tarps with the retired numbers and names with a giant script in the middle from sections 512-509. If I could photoshop I would, but all 10 numbers would fit. Visually, it would be fantastic, much better than the current retired banners and empty seats. Leave the home side upper deck as is, not sure how much that reduces capacity though.

Yes - make it look like a ring of honor.

Posters are using the buzz words tarping will provide a good gameday atmosphere.

Here's what will provide the best game day atmosphere:

Pitt 60 YSU 0
Pitt 42 Nitters 10
Pitt 35 OSU 14
etc.
You and your wife not attending games will also improve game day atmosphere. Make it happen!

screw Penn st that ship has sailed. I think heather made a mistake in publicizing her offer . Barbour will turn it down and pitt will look desperate. Lets cut the cord . That one is over .

Uh, I don't think so. It was a good move by Lyke. Barbour turns it down and its PSU that looks weak.

I think you are correct that she made a mistake. Still hasn't learned this lesson. However, Barbour might have every intention or adding some games, until she runs into the real power base there, aka the lunatic fringe.

There is no way that it would ever make Pitt look desperate to attempt to continue one of the oldest and best in state rivalries in college football.

The only way one of the two schools would look bad is if the rivalry wasn't continued. Then the school who stopped it would look like it's attempting to pad a schedule with Akron, or Georgia State, or any number of other guaranteed wins on top of an easy Big Ten schedule.

The road side is the TV view side so that would be the side that would have fans in the upper deck. The tarp would go on the non-TV side. If this upsets fans who want to be on the Pitt side, just move Pitt to the other sideline.

But, yea, a huge Pitt script logo in the upper deck endzone and all the retired numbers in the upper sideline would look good.

I don't know why any Pitt fans would be upset about Pitt right-sizing HF to 45K which is exactly what an on-campus stadium would seat

I'd make the tarps say "17 time national champions" on one side and "lol Paterno is in hell" on the other.

It shouldn't be too difficult to make really nice looking tarps. If I can do this in 5 minutes with my hideous graphical abilities, then someone should be able to design tarps that are sweet.

I hope they use the image you made. Like literally, blow it up so you can even see the pixels. Time to troll the nation!

I know some of this stuff is in jest, but it would be fun if Pitt used the giant scoreboards better. Here are some totally unacceptable videos to show depending upon the foe.
  1. Paterno sprinting to the locker room at Ohio State
  2. Paterno hugging Sandusky
  3. Paterno and the Rutgers coach at midfield when Joe's boys threw a 50 yard bomb on the last play of the game to run up the score
  4. Bobby Petrino on a motorcycle
  5. Thomas Jefferson and his slaves...
  6. Flash a stat that shows that N Carolina had the highest number of civil war casualties of any state in the War of the Rebellion.
  7. Cue the stat that Duke University prospered under tobacco money and then flash one of Pitt's cancer centers.
  8. Georgia Tech.....low hanging fruit here...show the scene from Gone with the Wind where Atlanta burns
  9. For ND, show a picture of Kelly, a tower and a storm
  10. Syracuse...just show a picture of Syracuse.
  11. West Virginia....a toothbrush

And should we happen to ever be on as the main game on FOX, maybe play a highlight reel of Wanny and his stache and running his fingers through his hair with porn music as background.
