Good God, this Ohio State kid is 3-10 for 57 yards into the 4th quarter. The FSU kid tomorrow may not throw for a yard. How do these types of programs have such low level quarterbacks and dont say they are young. You cant be a QB your whole life and suck this bad with elite players all around you. This OSU game proves again why the committee made the right call. You cant put a team with a backup QB in the CFP. Perhaps this is a doing of the portal. No decent QB is sitting anymore even at the blue bloods so guys who would typically be an OSU or FSU backup are starting QBs other places.

No idea why the big brands even bother with freshmen backup QBs. They should be taking multiple third and fourth year players as QBs from the portal. Why waste a roster place and NIL on someone who probably won't play and won't be ready if you do need them.

Not like the days when they had Braxton Miller, JT Barrett, Cardale Jones, and Joe Burrow in the same QB room.

You cant stockpile them anymore but then again if you are a Pitt-level program and wind up with a good young QB who would have normally been a backup at OSU for a few years, know that you will eventually lose him to an OSU-type program.

How many portal dudes are signing up to be a backup though? I think this is what you are going to see going forward at the blue bloods

QB1: Star
QB2: RS FR (transfers after season)
QB3: True FR

Next year:
QB1 graduates
Blue blood brings in a transfer to start
QB2: RS FR (elevated from QB3)
QB3: True FR

Rinse and repeat

The guy was the 3rd stringer and was not expected to play in this game. When you get to anyone’s 3rd string QB it usually isn’t pretty.

USC backup QB gathering facts.

Ohio State almost definitely wins that game if the backup doesn't go down.

I'm a little surprised the 4-star 3rd-stringer looked so lost out there, even for a true freshman, but if you look at his offer sheet... it's not exactly the caliber of what I imagine Ohio State is used to bringing in.

I was surprised Day kept the backup in when he was obviously injured. Guy was limping badly every play in a meaningless game yet kept going out there.
