Hubert Davis extended through 2030

LOL what a terrible decision and terrible time to find out. They had him all but gone then to find out he was secretly inked before the season.

Oh 100% you know they’re pining for a blue blood in Dayton for eye balls and ticket sales

Dayton sells out no matter what. Those fans are crazy. Got there at halftime of SEMO vs TAMUCC before Pitt/Miss St and the place was jam packed to the rafters for those 16 seeds.

Did lyke do this?

He's only making 1.75 million/year as a base salary, which is pennies for a blue blood so that buyout will be much easier to eat next year. Even if everything is guaranteed, it would be less than $10 million to buy out the last 5 years in Spring 2026

Davis is at 1.25 million, per the article. And how is it that Capel is making three times as much as Davis? That is absurd.

That's his base salary. He was hired at a 400K base. Incentives push him much higher and are easily attainable like making the NCAAT, graduating players. So he's probably making $2-$3 million.

Capel is still making more than him, however you do the math. Which is still absurd.

$1.25 million base salary
$1.7 million supplemental compensation which increases $100K each year.

His previous base salary was $400K & $1.4 in supplemental income.

He also earned $500K as part of a multimedia deal with Learfield, and $250K as part of a deal with Nike. I assume he still pockets those amounts.

That clears Lyke from suspicion

In UNC's defense, when Davis was hired, he was NOT a sought-after candidate elsewhere so UNC had all the bargaining power. Would Davis really turn down a lowball offer and go coach UNC-Asheville or someone like that? His first several years were mixed reviews so he got a raise and extension after the 1 seed but still, not making what other ACC coaches are making. The UNC idea is somewhat like it's a privilege to coach this team so you have to take a discount. The good news is this makes the buyout very manageable.
