But the Steelers are beginning to look like the Panthers as the regular season winds down. They have looked downright awful against the Eagles and Ravens the past two games. KC @ home on Christmas Day won't be easy, nor will the Bengals if they are finally catching their stride

I certainly wasn't expecting the Steelers to be anything more than a 10-7 or 9-8 team this year - just as my expectations for the Panthers were (about 6-6 or 7-5) - but when they came out at 10-3 I wondered if maybe I overlooked something. They really looked overmatched as the game wore on. That fumble by Wilson when it was 7-7 was a killer, and they never were able to recover

Yes, the Ravens got lucky perhaps with recovering three of their own fumbles in addition to the one by Russell. But their rushing game and overall offense was far better than Pittsburgh's. I can't wait to see what Pittsburgh Dad is going to say about this in his next video recap. Hope it gives me something to laugh about. I know his neighbor Tom will be happy ...

I think they are going to lose Wednesday and have a really good chance to lose to Cincy. I think they are now finding their true level.

I don’t think they are a terrible team but, I don’t think there is really anything that they excel at doing. They are good but, nothing special. I’m not surprised and hopefully I am wrong.

this is turning into a very Mike Tomlin like season.
No doubt.

When does it end?

But hey, they can get healthy and win a playoff game if the match is right. I wouldn’t bet on it.

We can say this stretch is a really tough one made tougher with injuries. And that is true. But that’s why you don’t let the cowboys, colts and brown torch the big nasty Tomlin D. Winning those games, getting some stops, would have insulated this team from losses during this stretch.

13–4 is certainly better than 10-7.

Question for you guys.

In the game Saturday, the Steelers down one score 4rth & 6 at roughly the 50 and they went for it.

Was this the correct move? I forget how much time left. 10 minutes?

i think it was further, closer to 4th and 8 or 9. meh, probably.

Honestly, i think the way they were driving on us, Tomlin had zero faith that our defense could stop them so we had to score. If our defense wasnt getting gashed, he probably punts it but again, we werent stopping anything so he had to do it.

just remember, we let Flores go to keep Terryl freakin austin.

Weren’t we picked at the bottom of the division before the season , and clinched a playoff spot with 3 games to go instead ?
Funny how expectations shift

Yes it’s a typical Tomlin season - over achieving to win

Same Tomlin who hired Flores last season ?
This narrative is stupid
Yes that same guy. Tomlin wanted to give him an opportunity and he did. Flores left for greener pastures, as he should have. Tomlin kept the guy who is ok lurking in the background while Mike runs the defense. It’s comfortable for Mike.

And frankly if the defense played like they’ve been paid, no one would care one bit that it’s Tomlin’s defense.

Understood.

My thought (and yes the D was not good),

But not getting a first down puts your D back on the field at the 50....though an argument can be made it wouldnt matter....50 pr 20 yd line

Maybe not much different from Pitt in that if the schedule were in a different order we'd have never thought they were very good in the first place.

well they had a 98 yard drive already. that is a situation that Tomlin punts 100 out of 100 times. he ALWAYS punts there becuase he always believes in his defense. So he went for it here, that means he was either very confident in his offense in getting it OR he didnt believe his defense could make a 3 and out stop so he had to score..

We saw how the offense was playing so the latter is the obvious conclusion. im not going to blame Tomlin for rolling the dice there. we werent making stops and getting the ball back to score twice in under 10 minutes. not with how lamar and Henry were destroying us..

It’s uncanny how the two seasons seem to be aligning.

As of now, which is crazy to say against a 15-1 Kansas City team...Vegas is giving them a chance.

Weeks leading into Philly and Baltimore, the spreads were ridiculous for two playoff teams late in the year......

Missed opportunities on turnovers, missed goal line assignments and Russ doing way too much, ruined the "beating the odds" game. But I won't make anymore excuses for last Saturday 🤥

I'm cool with getting into the playoffs and hopefully winning a game, maybe do a surprise run...we're capable of that atleast

Plus if Baltimore wins the division they have to play Houston and Kansas City again next year, while we would most likely play Indy and the Chargers. Without a franchise QB or even a dependable offense, I'd rather see us play the 2nd placed teams.

I've watched us win 2 Super Bowls, so I'm cool with being competitive. It's not as easy as yelling at the TV every weekend

I hate to agree with you regarding the first thought; playing Indy and Chargers/Broncos would be far better than playing Houston/KC, but I don't think we win a playoff game on the road

I've watched us win 6 Super Bowls (I am an old fart). A lot of things have to improve - OR, we have a lot of luck - before the Steelers win #7

It is just possible that things are fine as they just lost to two really good teams while missing their most important skill position player on offense and two CBs last game on defense (let alone the other two defensive starters that were out both games).

A lot depends on how quickly the injured skill players return (and how effective they'll be). Our DB's have been average at best this year, and when the two most effective players (Elliott and Johnson) are missing, that's a recipe for disaster

Correct me if I am wrong.
The relative weakness of the offensive lines are also a major similarity. It is beyond me how two "Old time football junkies" could neglect talent up front on either side of the ball but .......
