I know it probably not a popular thing here in Pittsburgh, but...

And being the most feared batter in history
As Greg Maddux famously quipped -
He’s the easiest guy to pitch to- because you just walked him if the game mattered
Yep. I agree. He had the best swing I ever saw. It just wasn’t in a Pittsburgh uniform.

You know what? I’m going to concede and say that Bonds might be one worthy of at least a discussion.

Yes he won an MVP and probably should have had 2 MVP’s while here, a majority of what he did was in another city. Plus he’s not a HOFer and never will be. So I will still say no.
I don't know if it should just be chalked up to bad luck for him, but the guy never won a World Series. Then a couple years after he retires the Giants win three world championships in 5 years.

At least Ovi has his one cup.

Should have won one in Pittsburgh. He couldn’t throw out Sid Bream from deep short.

As a Pittsburgh athlete, he’s not even Terry Bradshaw or Willie Stargell. When Bonds was here, he was equivalent to those two, without the championships.

Another reason why he’s not to be mentioned in the same breath as Mario.

In 20 playoff games with the Pirates, he had 1 home run and 3 rbi.

Crosby edges Ovechkin due to cup wins and the fact that he’s elevated almost every winger he’s ever played with.

That said, Ovechkin is unbelievable in his own right and I refuse to minimize that just because he plays for the caps. While he’s a jagoff on the ice at times he and Crosby have both lived up to their hype. They’ve done if for a decade and a half. We’re fortunate to watch both guys.
How in the world does what you just posted make any sense? "Crosby edges Ovechkin due to the cup wins"??? You are using a TEAM trophy won to support your point on who you think is the better player. Using your logic, then Chris Kunitz is better then Crosby because he has won 4 Stanley Cups.

Crosby has two Conn Smyths, and is 3-1 in series against Alex Ovechkin. He also set up several OT wins in the 16-17 run and was the primary assist on the SCF series winning goal against San Jose in 2016 so yes while it is a team sport he has clearly out played Ovechkin in the playoffs. That shouldn’t be difficult for a hockey fan to infer.

I went to Pitt but grew up a Caps fan near DC. I hate the Penguins and always will, they’ve given the Caps so much misery over the years. That being said, I never bought into the Ovechkin vs Crosby narrative. They are both fantastic players who have both lived up to their hype. I was certain when they were drafted that one or both of them would be busts, but that hasn’t happened. I don’t see why Caps fans can’t enjoy watching Crosby or vice versa. Sure, you can hate the team, but the caliber of player that both Crosby and Ovechkin are don’t come along very often and if you hate on either of them you’re just being, well, a hater.

All of that stuff is wonderful and I am happy for you looking up all of that cool crosby stuff, but that has nothing to do with the point I was trying to make. Using a TEAM trophy to determine who the better individual player is does not make sense. As I stated, Chris Kunitz has won 4 Stanley Cup's, crosby has won 3...does that make him better then crosby???

My Eric Lindros rookie card value that I spent 100’s on in 1991 says otherwise.
The problem Lindros had, he went to the exact WRONG franchise for him to reach his potential. If he stayed with the Nordiques, he would have been with Joe Sakic and eventually Patrick Roy and all that talent in Colorado and likely won multiple cups and a longer career.

But alas, he went to Philly. Who was still run by the Clarke/Holmgren/Snyder Broad Street Bully mentality where they thought Lindros needed to be a physical force. I am not saying not use your size, use it like a Lemieux did, but don't become a Milan Lucik half goon/half player.

If Lindros ended up on teams like Avs, Pens, Wings, he would have been an all timer. But he went to the one franchise who valued the check more than the goal.

Yeah honestly I am glad he got that cup. His legacy now, that cannot be held against him.

Next up on this..... Connor McDavid.

The Pens are really hated, especially in the East. And I am okay with that. Everyone hates the Patriots also. The Yankees. No one hates the Jaguars, Blue Jackets or Pirates. In sports, it is almost a term of an endearment for a team to be hated.

He definitely did that. Probably a result of being so much bigger and stronger than everyone else, no one really could hit him and do damage when he was younger. Of course his younger brother Brett also had his career shortened because of concussions, so could be some hereditary issues also.

Not sure if getting concussed because you’re an easy target is hereditary .
My favorite
