Walt did almost the same thing his last 3 years, in a much tougher conference.
No, he didnt. 2004 was probably the weakest Big East of all time.

2003 and 2003 weren't
Utah
Yeah. Wannstedt was far far far from perfect. But the years after him have been largely wastes of time (last year was a decent one thanks to the intriguing offense). It's because recruiting increasingly needs to be supported from leadership, boosters on down, coaches alone can't deliver top players. Wannstedt thanks to his NFL pedigree and local ties seemed to fare better (not great but better) without that support. The guys we've had since couldn't be more different as far as personality, but all uniformly struggle in recruiting, due to the absence of the manna from above, which will likely always continue because the school simply is not interested. So they should have just kept Wannstedt.
What was so tough in 2003?
I'll answer, the BE wasn't tough in 2003. Also, the OOC included 3 MAC teams, a 4-8 Tex A&M team, and a 5-7 ND team. Walt underachieved with a very good team and went 8-5. It cost Fitzgerald the Heisman trophy and ultimately cost Harris his job.
Stop with this tougher schedule nonsense.
And Vandy had a .167 winning percentage before he got there.Pretty good mic drop moment there. Those are the facts. Its like when someone says Franklin did so well at Vandy, and you look at the wins and see the combined record of all the win he had, the teams he beat had like a .300 winning percentage in those years
That's called being a good coach.Franklin has used the money at his disposal to hire some very good assistant coaches who are also very good recruiters. He doesn't need to be that good of a coach if he uses the resources at his disposal wisely. He just needs to not screw it up.
