Likely Pitt is 3-0 now with either backup QB

It is hard to look at the Cincinnati game and the WVU game and see how Pitt doesn’t have a great chance of getting the win in both those games with one of the other back up QBs.

It’s not all on Phil though, in the sense that Narduzzi and Cignetti allowed him to stay in both games, when it was quite obvious he wasn’t playing like he was capable of getting it done.

Had they pulled Phil in the Cincinnati game and the backup chosen was able to lead the team to a win, it still could have allowed a completion to start the following game. Had they them started Phil again and he struggled in the first half of the WVU game (like he did yesterday), then the coaches would have felt even more comfortable putting that same backup back in for the second half.

So really, these loses are because of Phil’s poor performance which only occurred because the coaches poor decision in both games to leave Phil in the game.

Yeah. After watching WMU with Yarnell, it’s not like Cig couldn’t call throws and some of the same receivers couldn’t catch. It was a lot on Jurk for missing throws and timing. The dude can run, but a more accurate thrower is likely a bigger need right now than dual threat when really just a running threat given his inaccuracies.

The PITT backup quarterback heisman lineup. It’s incredulous that so many all-Americans are buried on the depth chart. Mark Myers would be getting his 10th Championship ring if it wasn’t for Wanny.

Dumb coaches will continue to do dumb things -until they decide to quit being dumb.

Both Wannstedt and Narduzzi - two very solid DC - they just don’t have the ability to assess the talent and strategy on the offensive side of the ball and make smart decisions. People can say that’s the Oc’s job. BS. The HC needs to understand and be able to make the smart decisions when something seems off.

Pat and Dave really are just so clueless about the offense that it becomes a major liability for the team’s success. Poor choices to hire the right guy. Unable to quickly recognize problems and that a change needs to be made.

The more a head coach says “We’ll need to look at the tape” the more you know that coach is not as aware of what’s going on during the game as he should be.

I never understand why lifting a QB is a an issue, ever. If the backup doesn’t do any good, just put the starter back in. He even has the chance to be a hero then. If he fails he fails, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Either way the great unwashed fans would know that the backup is no better and they’ll just STFU. But not seeing that and knowing that for sure though, they are ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS going to want to see the backup. These are ALL FANS, EVERYWHERE. We’re no different or worse than any that have ever existed

To this point, I believe Walt Harris made it a habit to play his backup in the second series of the second half to get them gam experience.

Exactly.
Narduzzi has mentioned he feels better about this season’s top three QBs than he’s ever felt before. Yet, here we are watching him stick with the starter who’s played so poorly, last game that he couldn’t even lead his offense to one touchdown.

Phil being in there isn’t just on coaches now. It’s gotten to the low point of the decision being on Phil now too. He knows he doesn’t have it anymore and he knows he’s hurting the team. He needs to step up and remove himself if Narduzzi and Cignetti are too stubborn. Entire team is suffering because of this. Enough is enough and it’s time to make a change. He had ample time to try to work through whatever he’s going through - yips, mental block or whatever it is. If you are dumping a short screen down to a RB and can’t execute that throw and throw it in the dirt, it’s time to hang it up for the good of the team. His INTs were awful. He’s not seeing the field and missing guys by 15 yards. Looks like his arm is shot too. ACC play starts this week. Enough messing around.

It’s another one of those fairy tales passed down by one generation of offensively challenged coaches to another.
