Marcus Hooker

Your guess is as good as mine. Just lost Top 2018 LB prospect to PSU today.. But I'm sure everyone is happy with Top 40 classes

-What is there to guess? He runs a 4.7 40 at 5'11 for a WR. I actually like him as a player and he is pretty athletic. But that is slow off the line. And he only weights 185lb.

-Get Raines then Stick with Florida Speed and Athletes

I agree. Let Penn State have those Pa. kids.

-He actually plays WR and DB. And that is far to slow to be a DB in college. With a 4.3 shuttle at 5'11 with that 40, he would get annihilated at DB in college unless that improves big time.
He'd be a perfect fit for Pitt's burnt toast defense.

So we should jump all over this kid because his brother is All American. Great recruiting philosophy.

What exactly is our recruiting philosophy then? Sit back and let all the big dogs take who they want and we pick up all the scraps? We're getting waxed regionally on the recruiting trail. We haven't even gotten a look from any of these players besides Raines.

Who says we are sitting back?

I'm not thrilled with how things are going regionally but we replaced some of these local kids with some big time talent out of Florida.

We are going to lose kids to penn state that's just a fact. We have to do better beating Maryland and Rutgers. Keep sniping Ohio and fla.

And that ain't helping attract fans.

I'll defer to Coach Narduzzi on recruiting. You obviously have no idea what goes on behind the scenes nor do any of us

-What are the needs in this class? DE, LB, OG, C, QB, DB

-Of the Top 15 players in the state of PA and what's left on the board are Raines, Scruggs, WR's and TE's, which we really dont need either of those last 2 in the need category. We are clearly going heavy out of state again. And we are clearly going heavy in Florida, as the 2018 players list down there fills our team needs. And if there is one direction this program is changing, we clearly are recruiting athletes with speed. PA does not offer athletes with speed in 2018, sadly. Penn State can have PA in 2018, the whole state if it wants. Just get Raines and go heavy in Florida.

It is 1 year away from signing day you dope. Take a f'in Xanax.

Yeah let's wait until national signing day just like this year. We'll finish out the year with a top 40 class by picking up the scraps from teams that had bigger fish on the table already. Really hoping Watson can recruit, especially throughout our region.

PS recruited well thru the sanctions. They just came off playing in the Rose Bowl. It is amazing that anyone would be surprised to see their recruiting take an uptick. You are nuts if you think Pitt is going to be able to recruit like the big state schools with massive fan bases. It is not going to happen.

-We had a National Championship type offense this year. Just didnt have anything at LB and the secondary. Ill be interested to see the final results in the next 2 years. We are recruiting like Baylor now. And what I mean by that is, if anyone ever listened to Art Briles, any time he was asked about recruiting the first thing that came out of his mouth was how big of an athlete is the kid and the second thing was how fast is he. Narduzzi has proven at 2 points in his coaching stint that he can Coach both a Top offense and Top defense, just not at the same time yet. Our defense sucks right now, obviously. That will change with athletes. And we will win and win big when it does. Our offense is loaded moving forward.

Unlike the GREAT PRETENDERS EAST OF PITT, I am glad PantherLair has the GREAT DEFENDERS OF PITT like SteelCityChamps on the LAIR!

Well said "Steel" and smaller minds in Central Pennsylvania do not prevail anymore that fell for slogans, myths, and scandals before and still can't accept Pitt Is It has been causing their Shadows Of Sinful Sanctions they gave to live with in CFB History.

Our Penn State Younger and Little Brothers trying catch and overcome Pitt's Accomplishments of Autumn IN CFB History and Academics.

They should also accept there Great 409 Wins Coach left Penn State Name in Shame and even in today's Big Pretend Penn State as become a Orphan Little Brother behind Michigan, Ohio State and Nebraska Great Accomplishments of Autumn, Today and Yesterday!

Envy of Pitt only exists in the Bowels of a few PSU Cult Dolts within the Myths of their Minds that they thought was Swagger turned out to be Fame of Shames now up in Flames in PSU Dumpsters Fires!

Oh, and the whining begins, just two days after signing day, and it's already begun for next year. I love the logic, concluding that Pitt is sitting back and waiting. Yeah, that's must be it

Maybe not every player in Western Pa is a great player.

News flash-Pitt doesn't get "big time talent" from Florida. We get the scraps from Florida and hope that there are some diamonds in the rough. AJ Davis, who was a highly recruited player, is an outlier.

-From 2012-2015 Pitt landed 2 recruits from Florida. I would suggest having a few Florida players on your roster before that statement is made. 2 recruits in a 4 year window is next to nothing.

It can't hurt to offer. He is a possession receiver that can play the slot at the next level. I am expecting huge recruiting classes from Pitt and PSU!
Penn State, Franklin & Smith have an Edge over Pitt when it comes to Recruiting since 1990 and it is hard to overcome it in Pennsylvania and Northeast and no shame admitting it and admiring what the Penn State Program built on its own.

Penn State Advantages:
1. Penn State Football Program Revenues & Resources Staffing
2. Penn State Central Location & Franklin's Roots & 4th Year
3. Penn State Summer 3,000 Invites Recruits Per Year 8th-12th Grade
4. Penn State High School Coaching Clinics Yearly Connections & Access
5. Penn State Larger Roster Beyond 85 Scholarships of 145 Players
6. Big Ten Allowable Unlimited Non-Qualifiers Both SAT & QPA
7. Penn State Bigger Recruiting Staffers & Assistant Salaries
8. Only ND, OSU, & Michigan Have Equal Resources Above
9. Franklin & Smith Selling Pennsylvania Versus Ohio & Michigan For NCS
10. Penn State Alumni & Attendance & Support 90,000 Students

Pitt Disadvantages At This Time:
1. All The Above & Pitt Urban Program Competes With Pro Sports Dollars
2. Pitt Rebuilding Its Football Program Again
3. Pitt ACC Revenues Just In 5th Year 2013-17
4. ACC Limits On Non-Qualifiers Unlike Big Ten Unlimited
5. Pitt Smaller Rosters On Walk-Ons & 5th Year Role Players Less
6. Pitt Instability At Athletic Director & University Leadership Mistakes
7. Pitt Off Campus Stadium & Practice Facilities
8. Pitt Competition From WVU For Recruits
9. Pitt 18,000 Urban Undergraduate Commuters Students
10. Pitt Lack Of Booster & Alumni Size & Support

Pitt Advantages:
1. Pitt ACC Coastal Conference & Bigger Footprint In South
2. Pitt Location Ohio Access & Narduzzi Roots
3. Pitt Recruits Availability To Play Faster
4. Pitt Access To Joint Steeler Practices Facilities Consultations
5. Pitt Easier Access For Florida & ACC Recruits To Fly Directly to Pitt
6. Pitt Traditions & Higher All-Americans & NFL Record Pro Players
7. Penn State Being In The Big "Two" Ten Instead Of ACC Coastal
8. Pitt Athletic Integrity History Versus Penn State Football Scandal Sanctions

Penn State and Franklin have the Program Recruiting Pipeline Advantages that Pitt and Coach Narduzzi will have to overcome while having to deal with Pitt Rebuilding a Top 25 Football Program in Staffing, Resources and under the 3rd Athletic Director in 3 years?

Coach Narduzzi knows that challenge and help MSU overcome some Michigan Advantages but Pitt not in the Big Ten East that Michigan & Ohio State prevail and that is what will dog Penn State forevermore.

Pitt Challenge is Miami and Virginia Tech that is formidable but can take on them easier than Penn State in Big East East. Since 2000, Penn State is not the 3rd Winning percentage but 5th, and just one game ahead of Iowa making it closer to 6th.

Pitt Recruiting has to compete against Miami, VT, UNC, GT, UVA, Duke, and Cuse! Penn State Recruiting has to compete against Ohio State, Michigan, MSU, UMD, Rutgers, Indiana and Big Ten Delany!

Pitt is establishing a Program capable of winning in the ACC Coastal & ACC and does not require more Recruits to do it just like Clemson proved it.

Penn State even with out Recruiting Pitt won't have the easier path to do the same in the Big Ten East against growing Big Ten East Competitors.

We shall see?

Penn State Fans are still making Franklin chasing Paterno's Shadows when it is Harbaugh and Meyer's that tower over him when it comes to Recruiting? Maryland and Rutgers rise will hurt PSU more than Pitt too.

Got close family near NC. Pitt is cyanide in that particular city so it's not like the chances would be good if we did offer. If one half isn't enthralled by OSU, the other half if not more loves penn state, and ND has zealots due to the heavy Catholic population (literally and figuratively, lol). Was actually surprised to get the kid from Neshannock. Maybe Duz can change things there due to his Youngstown background but tough to turn around eons of perception. That's a very stagnant thinking area. Pitt briefly had a positive image up there when Paul Evans assistant went there to coach and won big, but that didn't last, since Evans didn't...but also because, well, we never win. They are total front runners with sports there, true of most, but especially there due to the town being so downtrodden...sports is all.

Stick to staying on top with the juggernaut in Beaver county.

You're mostly mistaken. Plenty of Pitt fans there.
Hooker went to Ohio state because he saw a better opportunity there. Don't blame him, it worked out fine for him
That's all.

All of western pa is pretty stagnant thinking

They're equally downtrodden then. Wife's sister lives around there, granted a little north but near the town. The "Sunday dinners" are a big deal (and generally worth the trip). I've been to few weddings there too. Met a few dozen people from the area or so over the years. None remotely Pitt fans. One guy even went to Pitt but goes to Penn State for games.

One fall I was there for a wedding and there was a PSU game on at the time of the reception (some place near the big park there). Half the guys and a fair number of the women stayed near the bar (had a TV over it) most of the time to watch the game. I can't recall but i even think it was during a bad season, but there was a big gang watching it. I wouldn't have cared, except i couldn't get any damn drinks! PSU lost so they were po'ed, lol.

But if Pitt is popular there, good to hear. Opposite of the impression I got.

I don't want to overstate it, but Camp, Miller and Weaver were guys who had high major offers last year.
Tucker and Butler were clearly diamond in the rough types, but as you noted Davis was a major recruit, Mathis decommitted from South Carolina and had Florida trying to flip him at the end. They beat out oklahoma and mich state among ithers for Drake. Flipped Alexander from NC state.
People tend to be hyperbolic, but they have pulled some real quality prospects from Florida the last two classes.

he's not even a fraction of the athlete malik was in high school

he might still be good because malik has proven to be exceptional, but there is no comparison

But...but...but....maybe he's a really good football player with really good instincts and athleticism, who might excel at the FBS level even if he doesn't have Deoin Sanders' 40 time. After all, brother Malik only ran a 4.6, and was just a 3 star recruit.

You don't know, I don't know--but I'll bet you $5 he gets a Pitt offer later this year.
