I see the same bumbling losers proclaiming “the same old Pitt” once again… A pity… Some of you live in alternative realities where every glass is half empty and negativity is a comfortable existence.

Open up your eyes and mind to reality!

First of all, let’s make something clear…..What’s happened in the past IS NOT the fault of the current coach or administration! Quit looking to the past! It has NOTHING to do with the future. Focus on what’s happened the last two years.

A) Current administration:

- "The same old Pitt” would have hired a Chancellor that didn’t have a clue as to the importance of athletics. Instead they hired a man who understands how important athletics are to the student experience, but also how it effects other areas of the university; positive image, higher enrollment, more money, etc…

- “The same old Pitt” would have kept an incompetent AD because the former Chancellor gave this incompetent fool a long and hefty contract.

- “The same old Pitt” would have hired a new AD that would ignored prominent alumni, piss off big donors and dump on loyal fans. In addition he would ask these same people for money to invest in an athletics program whose opinion he ignored. Example; Pitt script.

Instead they hired an AD that understood the importance of fund raising and did it well. They hired a guy that listened to the people who funded the programs and gave them what they wanted. He wasn’t perfect, but he was a huge improvement.

- “The same old Pitt” would not have spent money on upgrading the facilities, whereas the previous administration wouldn’t spend the money to replace the carpet in the locker room.

- “The same old Pitt” would have hired a retread Pitt guy (Wannstedt), a has-been, (Majors) a used car salesmen (Fraud) an abuser of women (Haywood) or a low energy (Chryst) coach. Instead the new administration looked for a coach that;

1. Understood the culture of the area
2. Someone who wanted the job
3. Someone with lots of energy and passion
4. Someone who loves to recruit and had an eye for talent
5. Someone who had personality and willing to mingle with donors.
6. Someone who had a track record as a good coach (Broyles Award winner).
7. Someone who could hire and put a staff together.

In short, they properly vetted a coach for a change…Thank you Mr. Gallagher!

I am confident that Chancellor Gallagher will hire a guy even better than Barnes.

B) Football program over the last two years:

- “The same old Pitt” would have lost to an unranked non-P5 opponent. (Ohio, Akron, Youngstown State). They would have blown three touchdown leads and lose (Cincinnati, Iowa, Houston). They would’ve won a big game (Notre Dame) one week and then lose to an inferior opponent (UConn) the next week.

Instead we beat Clemson one week and win again the next (Duke).

- “The same old Pitt” would consistently lose to teams that they were favored to win (too many to list). Instead we have lost only once to a team we were favored to beat (Northwestern).

- “The same old Pitt” would not have stepped up to give their football coach more money after his first year while still under contract. Yet that’s what happened with Narduzzi after last season.

- “The same old Pitt” would never even consider stepping up and keeping an assistant coach from leaving the program. Instead they made Canada a generous offer that even surprised him.

C) Fans

- “The same old Pitt” wouldn’t have exceeded the previous year’s season ticket sales after an 8-5 record.

- “The same old Pitt” would not have sold out their allotment of Bowl tickets the last two seasons for minor bowls and then get extra tickets and sell them as well.

I’m sure I missed a few things, but you get the picture. A lot of positive things are happening and it’s NOT “the same old Pitt”.

Excellent Post

I saw the title and thought...."another Jagov that knows everything"....

And while I'm sure you are still a jagov.....your post was spot on.

Patience.......in two years we have gone from a 6 win program to an 8 win program.....with no depth and a bunch of defensive players in over their heads....

We are moving in the right direction.

And I'm kidding about being a jagov.....

You make some very good points until you start demonizing anyone from our past...Wanny was/is a good Pitt man & made Pitt better , PC helped us get to this point despite what you insist on telling yourself. No one has all the answers & as much as I am greatful for Coach Duzz he still has a learning curve.
No question we are in a better place but I bet if Coach Duzz was being honest w/ ya he'd say he learned something this Bowl game....to never allow another lame duck coach stick around. He was successful w/ MSU because he had a long standing relationship w/ the HC & players.
Canada had no tight bond w/ Pitt other than Duzz who did not stay on Canada like a Saban would do to any coach on his staff. I'll guarantee Coach Duzz will go about Bowl games a whole lot different from here on out. Just my opinion...but I do not see why you have to tear down everyone that came before as if they all did nothing for Pitt, the players, the university, etc...it's not always that black & white.

Excellent analysis and accurate observations and why it is important to get an Athletic Director that has many Traits of Coach Pat wanting to be, stay, and build the Pitt Football Program.

Barnes did an adequate job, but blew the Basketball Hiring by using his old Boss, after the way the Media treated both of them, it was clear his tenure was untenable.

Barnes corrected Pederson's mistakes, but was in over his head in a Big City without a Steel Town, Attitude but at least he knew it. Unlike Pederson that could not admit he made mistakes and kept making them until he wimped away with Pitt Money in his Pockets?

Pitt needs an AD that leads on his own, without Consultants holding his hands, telling him what to do, and has no fear of a Big City he can't handle.A truly great AD knows how to find sources that can help advise him, not pay for Re-Run AD's that failed at many schools?

The New AD does not have to be a Pitt Man either but he has to be a Man unlike Pederson that was a Pundit Punk!

When Pitt rebuilt its Great Football Program in 1973 "The Cas" was the Man that made sure all others got credit and never had an Ego, he allow others to do their job and was there to support them and let that do his talking, walking, and no balking.......just had his eyesight on finding People that made Pitt better in Football!

When they came to "Cas" to take Pitt Stadium Off Campus he said "No Way" find a better way and rebuild a New One and I'll support it! He earned his "Bones" and Leadership at Army but came from Dean Martin's Steel Town Steubenville!

Anyone needing to lead with just Consultants to teach them something they don't know, lack knowledge on the area is not a Leader but a Bleeder, and.......

images

Pederson and Barnes needed Consultants Narduzzi just leads by Coaching!

Pitt needs an Athletic Director that wants to come to Pitt and Rebuild the Pitt Football Program with Pat Narduzzi and create a Pitt Renaissance on Pitt Campus and has no fear in taking on that task.

The simple Fact is Rebuilding the Pitt Teams does require Winning but rebuilding the Pitt Program requires the same Goals of Winning on Campus and that is not something to Fear but to be embraced. Pittsburgh has the Banking, Corporate and Alumni capable of doing it!

Overall I agree with you and I have been saying this for the past couple of years. The last couple of years we have seen glimpses of something different to be excited about and should not be labeled "same old Pitt."

But if Wednesday's game was not a microcosm of same old Pitt, I don't know what was. Pitt sold out its ticket allotment for mainly two reasons. One was to see James Conner play his last game in a Pitt uniform, which was ended before the game was even over. Second was no one thought Northwestern could stop this offense, the most prolific in Pitt history. Northwestern didn't have to stop this offense because Pitt was able to stop it on its own with some of the worst gaffes and blunders we have seen in some time and that is exactly same old Pitt.

This is the third consecutive bowl game that not only Pitt has lost, but lost in embarrassing and humiliating fashion and three consecutive times becomes a trend. If Pitt wants its fans to travel, they must do better in these bowls because though you and I can see a positive change in Pitt football, there are many who cannot and you can call people names all you want who do not see your point of view, it does not change that fact.

The referees did not do the NCAA any favors either in this game. If the NCAA does not want star players sitting out to become a trend, then these refs have to call targeting fouls on some of these hits. What is the worst that can happen by throwing a flag for targeting? They go back and review the hit and decide from that if it was actually targeting or not. Pitt had three seniors knocked out of the game, two of them are going to be in the NFL next year. People are going to see this game and realize that neither the NCAA nor the referees, worthless as they are, are not going to help in any way to keep them safe and we are going to see more and more seniors with high draft stock sitting out. If the NCAA doesn't make some sort of change in the way they protect the kids, we are going to see more of them not playing. I have no faith in the NCAA or the referees after seeing this game and the Virginia Tech game last night. Worthless and disgusting are the only two words I can think of.

I see the same bumbling losers proclaiming “the same old Pitt” once again… A pity… Some of you live in alternative realities where every glass is half empty and negativity is a comfortable existence.

Pedersen did some good things in his first go around. But he didn't listen to the people he needed to support the athletic programs.

As for the reference to former coaches, besides Fraud, each made a positive contribution to the program. As a Pitt guy, I am very grateful.

The coach reference was to point out the terrible lack of vetting when hiring each coach. The administration took the easy way out instead of doing their homework. It was not a knock on the coaches themselves.

I think Pitt is definitely moving in the right direction. People are confusing same old Pitt with same old results.

Nice post. Agree 100%.

8-5.

Pretty much the same old Pitt. It is a results oriented business folks.

Wrong. Same results, but not the same old Pitt. When Pitt puts themselves in a position to fail, that's the same old Pitt.

The new Pitt is doing things to try and succeed for a change. That is a positive step. Eventually they will succeed in the near future.

Come on. How many times in the last 25 years have we heard these things with the lemmings responded with "good post", 8-5 is 8-5. If PSU was 8-5, we would be talking about them being a mediocre program.

Exhibit B

Again over the last 25 years, Gallagher was not in charge. Reread the original post. He is not responsible for the bumbling's of the past,

I don't care about what's going on at PSU. PSU is only relevant the week before we play them and when we are competing for the same recruit.

If you can't see the difference in approach since Gallagher's been in charge then you are blind.

I thought you were the same guy railing on people for talking about PS, but yet u brought them up.

PN is off to a very good start. Realistically - if a coach averages 8 or 9 wins then he is doing a very good job. Comparing a school as large as PS that puts football above everything is not a good comparison. Quality schools that feel athletics are important, but not more important than EVERYTHING are better comparables.

Nice post. However, there are no moral victories. Granted, this administration has more work to do to right the wrongs imparted by Pitt's moronic leadership. Tough $ hit. Get it done.

Start with an on campus stadium. Fact, It's Pitt's fault not the fans.

Good post.

There were some upsides to losing that bowl game if that's a permissible argument. Despite the two great wins the program enjoyed and a relatively good season, this program isn't "back" by any means. I see the silver lining in a dedicated coach and administration that has more than a couple of incoming recruits playing in showcase games that have completely bought into what is happening. These kids know there are opportunities to come in and play sooner rather than later. You have three to five kids probably going to hear their names called on draft day and you're looking at next fall with a schedule that could easily get you to nine wins before December. You're finishing year number two of a rebuild and you can't help but be satisfied with what you see around you.

Enjoy this because this could get really fun.

Sorry you can't say same results but not same old Pitt results do matter. Two years in a row we have looked woefully unprepared to play in a bowl game against not what I would call traditional powerhouses. You can't argue there are good things going on but at the same time you have to have a breakout season where you go 10-2 or 11-1 for me to say this is not the same old Pitt. We lost at least 3 games we should have won especially the UNC game. We were in every game except the Miami game late in the second half but you have to win those close games and not find a way to lose them then and only then will it not be the same old Pitt.

This year was one of the most exciting I can remember in the last 25 years but in the end we lost 5 games and it doesn't matter we lost 3 of them a total of 11 points we lost plain and simple. I think we do have the right person to lead us to our first 11 win season soon but at the end of the day results matter. That's not being negative it's just the truth and it doesn't make me any less of a Pitt fan than any of you who disagree.

The whole criticism of any of us who don't just sing Pitt's praises every post as not being real fans is such a joke it gets really old. I haven't missed a Pitt football game either in person on TV or radio in 25 years but I have missed plenty of weddings picnics and whatever else on Saturdays so to say I'm not a true fan just because you may not agree with me on a post on a damn message board is one of the weakest and dumbest responses ever. The inability of people to debate differences but rather just start name calling has gotten really bad on here. I respect your opinion if it differs from mine but it would be nice if others could do that without just name calling or funnier yet calling them a Nitter troll.

- “The same old Pitt” would have hired a retread Pitt guy (Wannstedt), a has-been, (Majors) a used car salesmen (Fraud) an abuser of women (Haywood) or a low energy (Chryst) coach. Instead the new administration looked for a coach that;

Perfect post !

"3rd bowl in a row Pitt lost in an embarassing and humiliating fashion"???
You need 2 things:
1. Some doses of reality, and
2. A life.

No one but you should be either embarrassed or humiliated.

I guess you are the one that is insecure.
Why don't you start a blog about me? Seems you have much to write and very little to say, so a blog should suit your needs perfectly.
While you are busy contemplating your next prose, I'll be busy treating you like the dog crap I saw on the grass this morning. I'll walk past you and try my best to keep you off my shoes.
Have a good day...and life.

The leadership at the top is ready to make an even better hire than Barnes whom I feel did a good job in his 20 months on the job. We need a charismatic person who can work with alums to increase donations. If that person is an alum fine but it is not imperative.

To Meister's OP, we do have the leadership in place to make the next step in advancing our Athletic Dept.

Ok. Here is my blog about you...ASSHOLE. When one like you can't come up with anything intelligent, you start with the insults. You see when one is so insecure with a loser complex like you, you start with the insults to make yourself feel superior, but anyone with any kind of intelligence can see that.

What’s the matter Sabotuer? Why so much hatred? It must be hell to walk around with all that anger.

What happened? Did mommy not give you enough attention? Was there nothing you could do to make daddy proud? Maybe they both thought you weren’t worth it and left you altogether. Did all the girls laugh at your tiny penis and you are trying so hard to make up for it? That dog crap you stepped in come from a poor dog you beat on a regular basis to channel all that rage?

I’m here for you if you would like to talk about it. It always helps to talk.

So many words...so little impact.

Couldn't have said it any better.

I'm sure because you didn't understand many of them. Your lack of intelligence lowers you to insults. Yeah, I have read a lot of your posts but not many of them are worth responding.

Vol,

Well said......

I would just add a couple of thoughts....

1) while we did lose three games by 11 points (an argument I dont like to lean on)....we did pull one out against GA Tech. Pitt teams from the past few regimes NEVER.......found a way to win.

I think it provides a glimmer of hope that our days of 'Pitting" are winding down.

2) I agree that results do matter...and I truly believe this coming year is the breakout year. I think Max Browne is going to have a season that gets him drafted....our defense will finally be filled with Narduzzi recruits...

and.....it is likely Ok State will be the best team we play next year. This team is going to be good enough to knock off the Pokes....and set up for a nice year.
