Ohio State Game Thread

Well, if we're going to give up 48+ every half we play a team with any ability, it's going to be a long season. I thought losing Hinson, might help us defensively. Boy, was that wrong. We're Going to have to figure out a way to get Damian Dunn to regenerate like Deadpool.

OSU isn’t even having to make tough shots as they are scoring at will
This is their worst game defensively since the Wake blowout last year

Shot 56% and outrebounded them 14-7 and losing by 9
Turned the ball over more (8-4)
OSU shooting 69% and has 28 points in the paint

You can't rebound when the other team isn't missing shots. They take one shot and make it from anywhere.

Zach Austin wasn't doing much on the defense... a guy that athletic should be a more of a force on D. A couple blocks this half would help

Lowe can't keep dribbling around like this and expect that it will produce offense. No ball movement, few assists on offense. Lowe with 1 assist, team with 2 total assists???? But our FT shooting is good. :pAnd as said before, this Pitt defense is really bad and unprepared. It will be an accomplishment if O$U can be held to less than 90 today. 100 is a possibility and would be an embarrassment for Pitt, especially if we keep this up and are unable to keep it close. Really disappointing first half all the way around in all aspects of the game.
The defense was very good before the Dunn injury and as others have said it looks to be team defense. Leggett is still a good on ball defender.

How is man-to-man working? They are scoring in the paint as well as from the 3. Thoughts?
A team that is not well versed in playing zone will get destroyed from the outside. Capel is not a zone coach.

But, I do agree that the man defense has been non-existent in the first half.

Well, I haven't seen him play 1 minute. I heard he was a good rebounder and shot blocker. That's 2 things I know Diaz can't do.

Well, I have. And more importantly, so have the coaches. And they see him in practice every day.

Of course that doesn't mean that they can't be wrong. And god knows, I've been wrong once or twice (heck, maybe even three times!). But there is no real reason to think that Papa Kante is ready to play at this level, other than the hype that a certain someone keeps giving him.

But we hadn't played any good offensive teams to this point. And it's not like O$U is playing great defense either. We're shooting 50.0%. They're just shooting 70.6% and we aren't giving them any resistance.

Papa Kante is now +11 against Ohio State, team best for Pitt. Its been his defense as he has been everywhere leading this run. 4 points to go with it. Timeout Ohio State, lead cut to 1.
He also has at least two tips on misses that lead to sustained possessions. One led to leggett three point play. Got some wingspan.

Yes exactly. Geez, he has done more little things in his few minutes that certain people just don't see. He's got more natural instincts
