How about Pitt builds a few buildings on the North Shore, make sure they say Pitt all over them hold some classes there, then Heinz will be an on campus Stadium.
Gotta be able to appreciate the enticing aromas wafting from the O for it to be on campus... Northside is for the RooneysHow about Pitt builds a few buildings on the North Shore, make sure they say Pitt all over them hold some classes there, then Heinz will be an on campus Stadium.
LOL, okay...keep me posted on that stadium champ...maybe we should just blow up the cathedral and put it there...hahaNah, we'll move FB back on campus. Sorry.
It'll happen, skippy. You'll see.LOL, okay...keep me posted on that stadium champ...maybe we should just blow up the cathedral and put it there...haha
What?! Every Steelers ticket is sold out in perpetuity. There is a waiting list to get season tickets. The empty seats you see are the people in the club or in the rotundas and concourses. Why the hell would the Rooney's ever do this?Has anyone had a discussion with the Rooneys about attendance. Tie steeler tickets to Pitt tickets.
If you buy and attend the Pitt game you get a 10% discount for the steeler tickets.
Just looking at the stadim for steeler games they are also loosing fans.
Just a tought?
Are you counting on our faithful AD Barnes to get us this new stadium? He is looking for the first job on the west coast he can find. I just don't know where the funding and land is going to come from. But your blind faith is cute. It'll happen, skippy. You'll see.
Even when Dorsett and Marino played they only had a sellout when Notre Dame and PSU came to town. Pitt Stadium came down, it wasn't profitable. Space was needed.Pitt fans do didn't show up in great record setting numbers from 75-84 either..... the best modern day period of Pitt football...
I used to be a big fan for an on-campus stadium, but there's just too many problems that would arise. Even with some of the ideas, such as the one where I suggested we build in South Oakland, there'd just be too many issues and the cost would be through the roof. All of our attendance records have been broken at Heinz Field. I think what we need to do is:
1) Buy Heinz Field after the Steelers leave. Begin to save money to add some big renovations, such as new seats, Great Hall with all Pitt and WPA, new suites and scoreboard, etc.
2) Expand signage on the North Shore for game days. This is something we could do right now that would would do a long way to making it feel like a true home game.
3) Expand Pitt's foot print on the North Shore. Not sure this has been mentioned, but I think adding a Pitt-themed restaurant or store or even a classroom would make it feel a lot more like home.
4) Work with the city to get plans started for expanding the T to Oakland. Officially linking the two would allow allow more travel back and fourth and would make it easier for fans and alums to visit the campus. It'd also make it easier for Oakland residents to get to games while giving students another form of transportation.
All of these would be more realistic than tearing down parts of Oakland or the campus just to add the stadium, when we could use those resources for other projects that would be more possible to complete.
Where are these 5K more fans now? Where will they come from?
Where they have been for the past few years. At home watching Pitt because they hate Heinz Field!
And you would be wrong about that. Allegheny County has about twice the Pitt alums vs. psu alums. There are more psu grads in Allegheny County than any other county......lots of golf course employees....I would certainly agree with your "hard core" fan base description for Notre Dame - with their vaunted subway alum base in large cities like NYC, Chicago and Philadelphia where you receive an automatic application for the ND Alumni Assn the day of your first Holy Communion...
...but I don't think the same applies to WVU, Ohio State and Penn State where the universities are essentially the town's economic base... and OSU and PSU are very large schools with 15-20,000 graduates each year - which provides a large potential fan base for the future ... and a lot of them stay in their school's state when they graduate...
...I would not be surprised if there were actually more PSU graduates living in the Pittsburgh area than Pitt graduates...
No way. Three to one Pitt. Similar to our attendance at 42-39. They were in minority....I would certainly agree with your "hard core" fan base description for Notre Dame - with their vaunted subway alum base in large cities like NYC, Chicago and Philadelphia where you receive an automatic application for the ND Alumni Assn the day of your first Holy Communion...

If someone was dumb enough to pony up the cash...I'd still be against it......our situation just can't justify it. I cried walking out of Pitt stadium that last time....but times have changed.
#4, forget about it. More than a billion. The Rooney tunnel cost $600 million, and very little eminent domain costs. That ship sailed long ago, as the Stillers are deemed more important than Pitt.I used to be a big fan for an on-campus stadium, but there's just too many problems that would arise. Because Pitt would need to come up with maybe that much, and maintain the place.....the numbers don't work. Pitt isn't a football program.Wait. If a mega donor offered $300M towards a new stadium you would be against that? Why?

I'd be amazed if anyone with that much dough would be dumb enough to put $300 million into a stupid project like that.Pitt is no longer a basketball school and we pay to maintain the Pete.
Its an unrealistic scenario but Pitt would be flat out stupid to not seriously consider it if a 300 million contribution was made.
Pitt needs a 45K-50K seat stadium no matter where they put it. If they tarped down Heinz and squished more people together, the gameday atmosphere would be improved. Its hard to get into the game when no one is sitting next to you, in front of you, or behind you.

If that's the same website.....you don't either. Besides, it's a fiscal decision, not urban planning. It's a waste of money, time and energy. They're not hiring you either way.I'm surprised that you continue to pontificate about a new "on campus" stadium without any urban development expertise, experience or education in urban planning.

I've said it won't be done. And you're nuts if you think a stadium in Oakland could be built at that price. Go back to site development for Sheetz or Smoothie King. Why spend a BILLION dollars on your ideas when for less than $200 M we build a 50K on campus stadium? Extending the "T" to Oakland? At least a billion dollars.
Will you promise to stop posting when Populousy submits their report which WON'T include a stadium??You really don't have any financial, urban planning and development background. You attack me and others because of it. Please stop the foolishness.
When Populous returns with Pitt Athletics Site Plan, the new on campus stadium will be a part of the future. Naysayers and yinzers need not comment.
Any site that references Jackson State and Tulane when contemplating a new stadium for the University of Pittsburgh should be deleted from the internet.

Anyone who does not have the professional understanding and ability to use all available resources to plan an urban development project knows nothing about urban planning. Please site all educational degrees and professional expertise/experiences.
Pro town stuff is nonsense. College football popularity is through the roof since the Pitt stadium days. Look at the attendance figures and stadium expansions since1995 which is when I graduated. There was no college game day back then. The popularity of the sport is through the roof and has become an event at schools. Why do you think Pitt now gets $25M a year from the ACC. FOOTBALL![/QUOTE
What are the attendance figures from 20 years ago until now?
Not really, but you have a good idea. Unfortunately, The Rooneys have other plans for the northside. If Steelers give Heinz to Pitt, then free is me! We make everything Pitt like you said. It's easy when people stumble upon a great idea to discuss facts. How about Pitt builds a few buildings on the North Shore, make sure they say Pitt all over them hold some classes there, then Heinz will be an on campus Stadium.
