OT:Buccos

Yep. A real stinker. 7-0 now only 1 out and bases still juiced!
Pirates channeling their old selves!!

Not for nothing, but for whatever reason, your handle choice and the interesting addition of the exclamation point really just made me laugh, actually out loud. Again I can’t even explain why that is, it is just funny. Kudos…
Key Hayes up to .255 !! He’s good again.

Man, we were lucky to steal one of those three against the worst team in baseball. They kind of came in here and kicked some ass.

This feels like a very dangerous time for this team.
3 of their young starting pitchers completely shat the bed, and if that continues, they are done.

This isn't a team that can regularly win scoring contests. Most of their success can be traced to very good starting pitching and a more than adequate bullpen.
Now both are in question, and they could completely collapse if that doesn't change.

I've never fully invested myself into this team just because the lineup is SO underwhelming. Would be nice if they could keep the wheels from falling completely off, but actual contention just seems out of the question. They've been respectable this late into the season before and have fallen apart. I feel like the more veteran-laden teams start to wake up in the summer.

Some of the Pirate's veteran players have disappeared. Santana hasn't hit a HR for 2 months, and McCutcheon is now a walking machine.
No one is driving in runs or getting the key hit.

So many holes in that lineup. If they don't get pitching they're done.

On April 7, Bryan Reynolds hit his major league leading fifth home run. It is now June 8. Bryan Reynolds has seven home runs.
The entire team is on a power drought. They were hitting HR's at a decent pace in their winning streak, but now it has all but disappeared over the entire lineup.

The A's taketh and they giveth. In position to sweep the Brewers putting the Bucs alone in 1st after having taken 2 of 3.

I don’t think the Buccos collapse this year. Enough of a veteran presence, especially with cutch and rich hill. The teams in their division are pretty weak.
I like the thought, but I'm skeptical. If there was any integrity in ownership it could really be a ton of fun. With such a low pay roll the Pirates should be able to rent some players for a couple months in any area of deficiency when the time comes. But we all know they will never go all in, a band-aide here and there, but no major surgical procedures.

Shocked to wake up this AM and see the dreadful A’s swept the Brewers. Now I’m feeling a little better about things after the A’s took their series against the Pirates. That should be an indicator that the Pirates might be a divisional and wild card contender deep into the season.

uh, or just one of those anomalies that pops up from time to time in a 162 game schedule...the true indicator that the Pirates might be a divisional and wild card contender deep into the season is that I just cut the cord to cable last week and now will have no access to watch them do it unless I sign up for the Albanian streaming service that carries ATT&T sports..

I appreciate KY's mellow nature. There are times when Greg Brown makes me want to drive to PNC and New Jack his ass out of the booth onto the concrete. I don't mind Block, either. I can tell he's witty when he's not trying to feel everything rated G for people.

I'd be pissed if we were giving up anything other than cash at the trade deadline. We're nowhere near legit contenders this season; we just play in a weak division. Doesn't detract from it being a feel-good story or anything; I just think now is not the time to be buyers.

Let me know if you find a good way to stream. I haven’t cut the cord yet, but wouldn’t be adverse to doing so because there’s been no desire for me to watch the Pens or pirates over the past 5 years. So not having ATT would be no skin off my back. But….I am finding it nice having a contending Pirate team to tune into every night.

I’m with you Werewolf. If you have a chance to make the playoffs but no chance to win a championship, then it’s all a facade. That’s how I feel about the NCAA tourney for hoops too. But somehow it was different this year with Pitt hoops, and it’s different with the pirates. I’m all for getting better at the deadline…but I wouldn’t be trading away any assets, whomever they might be. Not sure that’s a concern though. It’s not in the Pirate DNA to deal prospects. They didn’t even do it when they were a player away, and the window closed and we sucked for several years anyway.

It's going to be real interesting as the deadline approaches because Rich Hill's value goes up and up. I mean unless there is some real proof that they will contend throughout the year, if Hill can bring back say an O'Neill Cruz type of prospect you have to do it.

They can help their situation considerably without dealing anyone.
Just bring up Priester, Endy, and Davis after the break.
Not sure what they're waiting for with Priester and Endy. They've proven themselves at AAA and are just marking time.
Davis will soon join that assessment.
Then Cruz will be coming back from his injury to hopefully give the team another boost.
A number of their rivals have 21 year old rookies on their rosters already.
Time for the Pirates to put up or shut up.

Pretty sure you are vastly overvaluing Hill. He's an innings eater, not a difference maker.

Say what? There's no way in hell anyone is giving up anything remotely close to that level of prospect for Rich Hill. Teams stopped giving up a ton for rent-a-players years ago, much less a 43-year-old with a below average WHIP and ERA on the wrong side of 4.

That can still be valuable to some teams. Depends
On the return of course. But on the right team that can work. Then in the playoffs you shorten the rotation and send him to the pen for long relief in case you’re on the wrong side of a beating. Teams can and do overpay for an arm. Maybe it’s a pipe dream but only takes one.

You follow it closer than me. I heard teams like the Reds have much better young talent at the MLB level and even more at the AAA level that are more proven that our two catching prospects. Not to sound like another negative poster who infests these pages…but just something I’m curious about.

O'Neill Cruz was a top 25 prospect. The odds of even getting a top 100 prospect for Rich Freaking Hill are 0.0000%. As you alluded to, he wouldn't even sniff the starting rotation in a postseason series.

Priester is dominating now at AAA. He needs to come up and start.
The thing about Endy and Davis eventually, they have position versatility and both have more offensive firepower than either of the current catchers or DH's.
Cruz will be back this season, and you would think Reynolds starts hitting with authority again.
The young guys will make mistakes, and probably have some rough moments, but it is time to see what they have there. It is most certainly than some of the old journeymen holding roster spots at the present.

Yea understood. Wasn’t implying they could get a guy like that. Agree that’s way over the top. But someone could still overpay a bit to get a live arm. Hill isn’t part of the future (obviously) and this team’s likely winning nothing.

FUBU seems to be the only major player that will get you AT&T Sportsnet Pittsburgh among the main main live TV streamers. For some reason that I forgot (probably missing some channels the wife had an interest in--Also, no Turner Networks and you know I love me some CNN) I did not go with them and went with youtubeTV for live tv. Should the Pirates be in the mix in September I'll just switch services for that timeframe which is kind of the beauty of how things work nowadays. I do miss easy back in forth channel surfing though.
