OT: Gerrit Cole

WRONG!

The players failed to win enough games!!!!! There was plenty of talented players on the Pirates team last season. They won the second most wins in baseball last year! Stop the nonsense!

You are a Blithering idiot!!!!!

But, but, but they didn't win a random division. Nevermind that the Pirates would have won every other division, that doesn't matter. It is totally huntington's fault the cardinals won 101 games.

In order to avoid this, Huntington should be expected to run out a team every year that wins 120 games. That way no team will ever be better.

Yeah, I'm not going to blame Cutch and Cole for Jeff Locke and Charlie Morton being in the starting rotation all year.

Spin spin spin, excuse excuse excuse.
Perhaps relying on Jeff Locke and Charlie Morton to be 4th and 5th starters all year wasn't the best of ideas.

I know I know I know, who could've known those guys would be awful, that's using hindsight! Or maybe, it's just easy to spot awful pitchers.

May want to look up the Pirates record in morton's starts chief.

The Cardinals didn't win 101 games.

1. Did the Pirates win the division?
2. Did the Pirates take advantage of a rule that allows non-divisuon winners to make the playoffs by winning the wild card game?
3. Will you excuse Neal Huntington for everything under the sun?

So here is what the team should look like next year.

C- posey
1b- Cabrera
2b-altuve
Ss-lindor
3b-Bryant
Of-marte
Of-Polanco
Of-trout

Rotation should be Kershaw, arrieta, kluber, sale, and hamels.

That should guarantee about 115 wins, and guarantee the division!!!

You're right, no more excuses. Huntington needs to acquire kluber, Kershaw, rizzo, Bryant. Clemente, Koufax, and Ruth this off season...otherwise he failed!

As to your second question, no they did not. The PLAYERS could not hit Arieta (getting only 5 hits).

But then again, we had our "ace" pitching in that game (Cole). He went 5 innings and gave up 4 runs, 6 hits and walked a batter. The last 4 innings the bullpen shut the door.

I rest my case....

This team would've been much better off with Walker at 2B, Happ in the rotation, and Taillon and Bell up in late April, with Glasnow up later (perhaps for Liriano or when Cole was hurt). That really isn't much to ask for. But simpletons like you make excuses for everything and then when fans want more (like to actually win something), make stupid comments like what I quoted above.

The wild card system is garbage. Second best team out after one game while a tea with 8 less wins gets a series?

Needs to be changed. Literally nothing in baseball has ever been based on one single game outside of a divisional tie...and that is just an extra regular season game.

Moral of the story?

Put a team together that wins the division, don't accept second place.

So go into every year with the goal of winning 110 games? That is the only way you can really guarantee a division.

Again, you sound as dumb As the people that constantly blasted Dixon for tournament losses.

Spin spin spin excuse excuse excuse. If there were four divisions like from 1969 through 1993, they would've been home totally.

All of the teams play under the same rules. Everyone one of them signed off on this system.

Everything is unfair in baseball and causing our hero Neal to not win.

They finished two games out while Jeff Locke and Charlie Morton started a combined 53 games. That is one game shy of a third of the season. That is the reason they didn't win the division. Now cry some more and make some more excuses for Neal.

Glasnow and Bell were in the minors (along with Taillon) for FINANCIAL reasons. That is a Nutting issue. Do your homework. If the Pirates wait until June to call them up, it pushes their arbitration illegibility another year.

It's all about keeping control of a player as long as possible before they start making big MONEY...

We've already went over the other two a million times...NH had to trade Walker. Nutting wasn't going to pay him. Happ was an unforeseen mistake. Nobody predicted he would have the year he is having, not even you.

Just as stupid of a response as ever....

Morale of the story... Players win games. Star players come up big in big games....

Idiot... Just SFTU...

Jon Niese made the same amount of money as Neil Walker. That wasn't made to save money.

At some point you have to start holding the GM who wastes bucket loads of money along with the owner who controls the pursestrings. I'm not sure Huntington would spend an increased budget wisely considering what he wastes his budget on now.

Yes... NH should have dumped the entire farm system and traded for Madison Bumgarner....

If stupid hurt, you'd be in agony...

You can have as many stars as you want but when your GM builds a team that puts Jeff Locke and Charlie Morton out on the mound a third of the time, there is a lot to overcome.

Just build a team that wins the division and don't worry about the Clint Hurdle Invitational.

Walker wanted a multi year contract. It would cost more money than Nitting wanted to spend. The financial investment was the same for this year only....

More stupidity from the front office fans.

You know you can upgrade without the upgrade being the second best pitcher in the NL, right? I mean there are probably 90 to 100 starting pitchers (likely more) in baseball that are better than both Charlie Morton and Jeff Locke.

He didn't have to give him a multi year contract, but he didn't have to trade him either. And more importantly, he didn't have to trade him for an awful pitcher making the same amount of money. He should've just had Walker at 2B for $10m and then wish him luck in the future if they couldn't re-sign him after this year.

The irony is, Josh Harrison will be making $10m in 2018 and he is the worst starting 2B in baseball right now.

In any other year, the Pirates would have cruised to a division title. The team was built to win.

Every team does not have lights out 4th and 5th starters. There were 28 other teams that had worse records than the Pitates last season. Should they all have been fired????? Do they not want to win??? You only see from a very narrow view of the entire picture...

You are making no sense...

Walker WANTED A MULTIYEAR CONTRACT, Beavis. He wanted more than 10 million a year... WAKE UP!!!

Harrison is not the worse second baseman in baseball, look it up you fool!

Just because he wanted it doesn't mean you have to give it to him. The Mets didn't. They are paying him his $10m this year.

Do you even understand how baseball contracts work?

WHAT?!?!?!?' So all 28 teams were rebuilding last season????? LOL! At least half of those 28 teams were in contention! Should their GM's be chastised as well?!?!?

You know NOTHING about baseball! You couldn't explain baseball to Einstein...

His contract isn't up until the end of the year, stupid! The Mets will have to pay him a new contract at the end of the year, or he's a free agent! That's why the return for Walker was less than market value!!!!

Do you know anything about anything you blithering, blithering idiot!!!

Cardinals SP 2015 (Adam Wainwright out all year)

Lackey 2.77 era
Wacha 3.38 era
C. Martinez 3.01 era
Lynn 3.03 era
J. Garcia 2.43 era

They didn't give a third of the games of the season to pitchers with ERA's of 4.49 and 4.89, that is why they won the division.

Are you going to chastise the Royals, who traded for Cueto and Zobrist and won the World Series? The Mets, who traded for Cespedes, dropped Niese from their rotation in favor if Matz, and won the pennant? The Cubs, who traded for Dan Haren and won a playoff series? The Dodgers, who won their division? The Blue Jays, who traded for David Price and won their division and a series? The Rangers, who traded for Cole Hamels and won their division?

Are you seriously going to question if those teams were committed to winning? Those teams didn't have guys as bad as Morton and Locke in their rotation and give them a third of the starts.

Yes, by two games AND a higher payroll. Please spew this nonsense to some national baseball writers and see what they tell you.... They probably call the men in the white suits to pick you up before you endanger yourselves and others....

BTW... Should the 14 teams that were still in contention after the trade deadline last fire their GM's???

We're waiting slappy...

No shit. Does that mean NEAL! should've dumped him for nothing?

Why did he trade him for garbage instead of playing the year out with him? Then if Neil didn't want to re-sign, bid him farewell at the end of the year, just like I said. That would've been the smart thing to do.

You are acting like they had no choice but to trade him.

You didn't answer the question. No surprise... If the 14 teams that were still in contention after the trade deadline fire their GM's????

If the Pirates made it to the series like the Mets did and didn't win the World Series, you'd be ripping NH for not doing enough to win the World Series...

Go get a job and STFU.... You have NO CREDIBILITY....
