People I waanna see.gone:

1. Letang-- too many mistakes depite his amazing talent...and hurt often
2. Kessel-- thanks for the two cups but time to move on
3. 3.Jack Johnson-- what a putrid signing
4. Malkin--. Slowed down this year. Get draft picks and rebuild.
5. Simon-- gm gotta save Sully from himself and unload this mediocre guy Sully loves too much .

Letang is a detriment to the team .
He is perhaps the most overrated player in Penguins history. He’s a good NHL defenseman, but not what some make him out to be. Sadly, his contract probably limits the team’s ability to move him. Kessel is gone. Sullivan will finally win out on that one.

Disappointing. A lot was exposed. But definitely this was a fare deserved, it is not like Lehner stood on his head and stole this series. He was simply better.

The Isles were better in goal.
Better on Defense. They had no colossal gaffes by supposed Norris candidates.
Better in the neutral zone controlling play.
Better on offense,
Better on the PP
Better on the PK.
Better on coaching.

A beat down.

Pathetic performance and a real eye opener towards the future of this team. Swept in the 1st round for the first time since 1972....

Nobody is safe from criticism, Letang, Malkin, Crosby, Murray, all of them.

I cannot believe how bad Letang was all series. I like him a lot but he’s either An all star or brain dead. There’s no middle ground. Unfortunately he was the latter all series long.

Okay, before I am saying what I am going to say, they are obviously not going to trade Crosby. That being said, those who say "you can't trade so and so....and what could you get for so and so...."

Consider the Islanders lost the best player they have had in their last 30 years this offseason and got nothing for him, and became a much better team. So people saying you can't trade Malkin or Letang....ummmm....yeah you can.

It’s because they hired a real head coach and played with an identity.
Teams able to play cohesively have an advantage.
Pens no longer have an identity.

No they don't. As we have been discussing over the past two years, the coach and GM don't seem to be on the same page. The GM acquires players that don't fit the coach's system. The coach don't play the guys the GM acquires. All at the same time, they waste giving up draft picks and prospects, their core players age and lose a step, and now...well here we are.

This team supposedly top heavy with talent......scored 6 goals in 4 playoff games. Reminds of 2013, 14 and 15 all over again.

This is the hard truth for sure. The Islanders were just flat out better and more consistent. And that’s not just in these 4 games... it was over the course of the 82-game regular season.

IMO it became unfortunately clear that as the season went on the team became less top heavy and more “Crosby, Guentzel and everyone else.”

You’re absolutely right about Geno and Letang. If they’re willing to listen and waive their NTCs anything is possible.

Murray could have played better.
The defensive pairings should have been:
Letang/Matta
Schultz/Dumoulin
Johnson/Gudbranson
Matta knows how to cover for Letang
Johnson/Gudbranson should have been the pairing against the top line and penalty killing
Lines should have been:
Guentzel/Crosby/Hornqvist
Rust/Malkin/Kessel
Bugstad/McCann/Bluegger
Wilson/Cullen/Ashton Reese

Team needs to realize that you score shooting from the center, not the perimeter.
Team needs to keep it simple. Too many attempts at the pretty play.
Team needs to gamble less.
Sullivan needs to realize the value of physical play and protecting your stars. If he did, maybe we would not have so many players playing hurt.

Crosby needs to own the criticism he deserves. People like to pile on Letang and Malkin, but just as often it is Crosby making a DUMB play by trying to do more than necessary offensively.

I don't think Letang has a full NTC. I think he has to provide a list of teams he can be dealt to or a list he can't.

The PENS won the last two Cups with fast young enthusiastic players, combined with solid high level play from the vets and great goal tending.

This season there was no speed to the puck, the team appeared to be disinterested at times, even unprepared and the play from the vets and goal tending was uninspiring to say the least.

IMO
Kessel - gone ( needs a change )
Letang - gone ( cost the PENS games and they won 9 of 12 games without him)
Malkin - gone ( seems to not be trainable / rouge talent)

Murray - must be evaluated but the future looks bleak for him.

Simon- gone ( terrible player not sure why Sully plays the guy)

Add some fast young players from around the league and from the AHL and rebuild with players who actually want to play hard and win!

Would that include ( I don't care about game situation) Crosby?

Murray isn’t going anywhere. He will be relegated to a backup role if DeSmith or Jarry surpass him. Coincidentally, Jarry was supposed to be the next franchise tender and that hasn’t panned out yet.

It's interesting to read posts saying "trade x" and "trade y" but you need a trade partner to make a trade. I heard part of an interview by Poni/Mueller with Rob Rossi (ya, I know, it's Rossi, but...) yesterday on the Fan and it was downright depressing when he talked about the difficulties the Penguins face in "retooling" this team over the offseason. Unless the Pens can make about 4 or more Scuderi for Daley type trades it's going to be an uphill battle. There's no doubt some that everyone like to point out as likely targets to be moved will be tradeable but others might require salary retention and/or adding something to get the other team to take the players the Pens might want to move. Not sure that's a surefire recipe to retool a team when you don't have a bunch of good prospects waiting for a chance. One thing is for certain, it'll be an interesting offseason.

Murray is not going to be beaten out by those guys. Jesus. What I do think it is prudent to maybe get a Greis/Lehner type of veteran goalie to pair with Murray.

Don’t pretend like you know anymore about the situation than anyone else. I a big fan of his but his role as a starter is hardly cemented.

Huh? Murray's role? What, you think he had a bad year? He had like an .850 save percentage going into December, and managed to finish with a 919 save percentage, which was top 10. That meant he played the since December a .930 save percentage which would be at the top of the league. Behind that defense. He is the started. IN CONCRETE! They scored 6 goals in the playoffs, that is not on the goalie.

Why are we always talking about the goalie, that is way down the list of issues.

I'm not even good at golf commentary!

You do know hockey, I read all your hockey posts, so what would you do to fix the PENS problem.

You're the GM who do you keep, who do you let go! Who or what do you add?
"know when to hold'em, know when to fold'em"
That's Mrs Buffett's game Texas Hold'em, not my game, slots for me?

Well I mentioned the others in passing. Like I said. I’m a fan.

Surrendering 3 per game?

recruits' man crush on murray is amazing to me.. he can do no wrong, even when he does..
Swerve,

It is not a "man crush", it is the ridiculous amount of criticism he gets from people who don't understand hockey. I mean again, the pens scored 6 goals in 4 games. 6 goals!!!!

If you notice, no expert is saying anything about the goaltending, except for Fleury pom pom waving fans. Why? Cause Murray is introverted and not smiling and fun.

It is no different than Del blaming Ben for the Jaxville playoff loss. We lost 45-42. Yeah, it is the QB's fault. It is not cheerleading being realistic. I love Sidney Crosby, hell my dog is named after him, but he is definitely more to blame for this series loss than Murray.

The problem is, one guys on here has made it all about MM so this topic constantly comes up. You have already admitted you don't like him so you are definitely biased. I actually saw someone on DK's blog said "the Pens need to get an NHL quality goalie". You mean like Andre Vasielevsky? Anyone want to check out his numbers from this playoffs? Murray got outplayed. It happens. But his teammates got outplayed, and his coach got out coached too. Am I wrong on this? Please, I love for someone to dispute me.

I'm not a huge follower of hockey and I watch a few Pens games a year. But from the comments I heard from Rutherford today, I'd say the game has passed him by and he's the one that needs to go. He comes off as someone who is guilty of the exact thing he accuses his players of being....comfortable with winning the 2 cups and nothing more. He talks out of both sides of his mouth and is fixated on the old way of playing hockey and forming a team. Times have changed and he hasn't.

In hockey, when you need a change, you fire the coach. Much easier than turning over your roster. These nhl coaches tenure in a few years for a reason.
