Rewatched the game this morning - thanks insomnia.
The more I learn about this Jeff Carter fella, the more I'm starting to like him....
BIG props to Geno who played the smartest hockey game of his life. Short shifts and on the right side of the puck all night long. A+ game by G.
This Kris Letang is the Kris Letang his detractors have always wanted. He IS the Penguins blueline.
Sure would love to see Jarred McCann show up for playoff hockey. Maybe someday....
Losing to a team trying to shithouse their way past you would be so incredibly frustrating. How anyone elevates the "face washing after the whistles" facet of hockey to being better than watching people skate fast and do cool things - well it's completely beyond me.
Isles win the garbage after the whistle stuff, Penguins win the game. That's my prediction.
As one get older, things you used to love start to lose their shine a bit. NHL Playoff Hockey is one of the very few things that still gives me the same feeling as when I was 16.
Felt the same way during that game the other night as I did in 1982 when the the Kehoe/Carlyle/Dion Pens came within an inch of cutting that 4yr Islanders Cup run in half.
My first live playoff game was a 2-1 Penguin overtime victory against the Juggernauts from the island to stave off elimination after 8-1 & 7-2 thrashings in NY. Ownership had been so embarrassed they'd actually offered fans a refund. A friend at the Mill gave my Grandpa the tickets in disgust last second.
I've come full circle. Can hear the "Dion" chant from the old Arena as I write.
Highly recommend watching the beginning piece on the Refund.
