Narduzzi just tweeted out that over 4K have been sold.
As crappy as the actual bowl is, there should be 10,000-15,000 Pitt fans there. Its one of the few bowls I would go to. Lets beat a really really good Navy team and finish strong.
I think our allotment would be sold out by now if there were going to be that many Pitt fans.
I'm guessing between 5-6K go.

For a cold-weather bowl game, I think a lot of fans will wait closer to. For example, I am going but if its too cold, my wife and maybe one of the kids will stay back at the hotel so I cant buy the tickets until closer to.
We're going to have a lot more that 5-6,000

Pitt allotment of lower level seats is gone, couldn't get them this morning, or so it appears.
I bought 8 upper level, no big deal, smaller venue and all seats are decent.
You mean you trust a forecast 3 weeks out?? You have more faith in meteorologists than I do. Not to say that I'm not going thoughTemps are supposed to be in the 50s.
What's so much better about any other bowl game outside NY6? They're all glorified exhibitions that put undeserving teams in bowls they have no business watching from the stands.
I will be going this year though to support Conner and the rest of the team.
Don't get me wrong. We were absolutely robbed this year, partly because of Barnes accepting it. But who really cares? These kids deserve our support.I agree about the other bowl games.
But people seem to bitch about which bowl game Pitt gets selected for, and the reason is that Pitt fans don't go to them.

He did say they would accept a tier two bowl if it was closer to Pittsburgh. Not really complaining though as I can attend the game now. It's just a joke that some pretty bad schools are going to bowl games well above what they deserve to be in.Partly because Barnes accepted it? Oh my.![]()
Despite the email from pitt, I'm sure fans are looking at other means of obtaining tickets.I think our allotment would be sold out by now if there were going to be that many Pitt fans.

The quote from Barnes in the paper that Pitt provided the ACC with a "plan" in which Pitt stated a preference for drivable Bowl Games seems to have been forgotten. That happened before the selection process. Did he "mis-speak" or get taken out of context? I think Annapolis vs Navy is a better deal then NYC vs Indiana anyway, but the whole "Tier One vs Tier Two" thing just adds to the small time perception of the Program.
I find it very slick that the administration has turned the result of thirty five years of sad sack football around to be the fans fault now. Bowl Games want compelling match ups and compelling teams. Most of them are played in front of half empty stadiums these days. They are made for TV events now. Miami's attendance problems (worse than Pitt's by the way), didn't keep them out of the Sun Bowl. BC's attendance problems didn't keep them out of the Pinstripe Bowl. Duke's attendance problems also didn't keep them out of NYC. So why is Pitt punished and not the others? You're going to tell me that Miami, BC and Duke fans travel to Bowl Games in droves? Maybe Pitt just hasn't produced compelling football teams, teams that people wanted to watch, so the Bowls weren't that interested in the product.
Gallagher, Barnes and Narduzzi are off to an encouraging start, but it's just that - a start. One 8-4 season doesn't remove the stench. Continue to improve and then sustain it. Show us a good coach that stays here (or the admin steps up to keep here) when the inevitable "dream job" opens up. Show us that the commitment that Gallagher and Barnes are exhibiting so far is for real and will be sustained. Win the lost customers back.
If you have the ability to go to the game then by all means please go. I do not, but have been to the Little Caesars and the Meineke Car Care vs UNC. I think and hope that the program is moving in the right direction, but Pitt should not be so publicly placing blame on the fans for the whole Bowl Game mess. Poor attendance factors in, but it isn't the only reason. Far from it.
I fully expect to get bashed for this opinion, or be told I'm not a fan, or if I don't go to the game I'm not allowed to voice an opinion, etc, etc, etc., but that's how I feel about it.

The Sun straight up said it was taking the winner of the Miami/Pitt game. Pitt lost.
The Pinstripe is gambling on that Duke attendance will be the same as when the BB team plays up there.
Those are two of the reasons Pitt did not get those bowls. And yes, a lot has to do with travel.
As for Barnes mentioning driveable, I think he was angling for the Pinstripe bowl instead of the Sun bowl. So that fans can make it. Because you know damn well they weren't going to El Paso. That has already been proven a few years ago.
I agree that there is frustration for the reasons you stated. But one reason the more successful programs step up is because the donors/fans support it financially. LSU's donors were willing to buck up $15M to get rid of Les Miles. I couldn't imagine Pitt donors bucking up $5,000 to get rid of the coach.
A lot of it is a chicken or the egg argument. I fully agree that past admins did very little to help and made some mistakes. I think this new admin is showing it wants to change the culture and perception at Pitt. They went aggressive after a good coach. They are working with the donors. They upgraded the practice facility locker rooms. Hell, they went aggressive for the men's soccer coach. It takes time.
That is your opinion. I understand some of it. But at the same time, the fanbase DOES have to step up at some point as well.

PITT IS IT!Pittx9 gets it......why there is so much pushback from others is beyond me.
Pitt fans need to stop whining about not going to the Sun Bowl (more prestigous my ass)...or NC State / Louisville is going to a "better" bowl.....
The culture of Bowl season is changing with the Final Four. The rest of the games are pretty much the same...no one cares other than the fan base. What will become more important going forward is the opponent....and not the bowl itself.
To this end....Barnes deserves credit. We have a chance to beat a ranked team with a large contingent of Pitt fans in attendance.
This is one piece to the puzzle of rebuilding a program. Barnes is to be congratulated.
Anyone know what happened with offering the students a separate, cheap day trip? To me if Pitt could subsidize part of this and include the game ticket and maybe a meal (packed lunch, etc.) and get a nice amount of the Panther Pitt (one or two buses?), all painted up and such, it would look and sound great.
I would think the student bus to the game would be one of the first ideas to Iincrease the number of fans attending.Unless thats a competing activity that might comprpmise selling the ticket allotment.
Unlike the Miami game where break was only 4 days total, I could see more kids being able to get back to Oakland (and Mom/Dad being amenable) with a 2.5 - 3 week break.
This is the incentive for the students to stay the whole game. If they do, they are eligible to go to that season's bowl game free or a discounted rate.Anyone know what happened with offering the students a separate, cheap day trip? That's terrific. Thanks for letting us know. How are you reaching out to the students before they leave campus? (BTW - nice touch of offering transportation from multiple locations, not just Oakland.) Have you had a good response?I'm not sure what you're asking exactly, but we're offering free student tickets and a day bus trip departing out of Erie, Johnstown, Philly, DC, and from campus.
I could be wrong, but the bulk of the tickets usually sell right away because those are the diehards that are 100% going. Things typically slow down after that.
3K sold in 24 hours. 1K more sold in the next 16 hours. That should tell you something.
