getting rebounds that should be his.

He also needs to do a better job of staying on his feet - He plays skinnier than he is (if you know what I mean?)

There's an old basketball adage. ..... "he has hands like feet."
That generally describes much of what happens with him inside.

On the block on the fast break he had that guy lined up from half court.
He is an odd mixture of seeming athleticism and then pure lack of coordination. My hope would be that he develop into a theo ratliff type, though he may be more of a Ty Haughton

He plays as if he's afraid to have the ball in his hands.
Right now he does not have even decent hands. He has not played much (in his lifetime) there may come some improvement. He definitely needs to get stronger. That can come too.

He is a developmental big. He has some length and athleticism. he can run. I can see him become a rim protector who can defend in the post and rebound. That is not all bad.

I think we can fairly say something similar about all of our bigs. They all have room for improvement and they all need to get stronger. Even Stevenson (if we are considering him a big), who is far ahead of the other young bigs, needs to get a lot stronger to compete at this level.

For the newer Pitt fans, this is what Gary McGhee looked like trying to catch the ball as a freshman.
Yeah, Gary was limited, but despite his bad hands he had like 5 turnovers in 100+ minutes as a freshman, Peace had 5 turnovers in his first 20 minutes of play. Gary had stone hands but general coordination and some basketball sense. Peace is like starting from scratch, I am surprised we did not redshirt him.

Yeah I felt like most of McGhee's drops were actually more with trying to catch rebounds, which probably explains how a guy like that only had 78 rebounds over his first 2 years (310 minutes of PT). I'm not even sure he started having the ball passed to him until his senior year....

Gary, as a freshman, never really had to handle the ball in Dixon's offense. He got offensive rebounds and putbacks, that was about it.

Peace, shouldn't be asked to do much more at the offensive end. However, Stallings offense moves the ball and everyone is required to handle it at times. They even ran some plays for him down low, but his hands are not ready for that yet.

He obviously needs to add weight and strength. This will help with his hands. Truth be told, I am more worried about his feet. I am sure he is a little tentative right now, but, sometimes he seems a little slow. In fairness, Gary really didn't move all that well at the defensive end early in his career either. That said, as a junior he really learned how to use his body and move his feet and could also defend without fouling out of games.

Way to early to say what we have in Peace. I do believe that he has enough athleticism, that if he works hard and gains the weight and strength, he can be a decent big by the time he is a junior.

Lastly, had Dixon recruited a 5 in his last years here, you are damn right that both Peace and TB would both be wearing redshirts this year.

He looked a lot better yesterday than I ever thought he could, at least during this season. But yeah, seems to be a tad uncoordinated missing some rather easy rebounds.

Peace is big, he moves pretty well. his shooting form is not terrible. little jump hook was smooth. foul shot form was ok. If the kid works his tail off, on his game and his body, he could be something. Hopefully a big leap next year. Pitt has a bunch of guys that have the potential to take a big leap forward. if they do, this team could be really good in 2 years. big if, but potential is there. Stallings is also a lot more likable this year.

Totally agree and try to remember people Pitts not going to get Duke and Kentucky like one and done freshman . I saw a lot of potential . Potential and development that’s what the next few seasons of Pitt bb are about not W and L .

We were talking about Gary last night and we could not remember what team it was that he had four fouls against in less than a minute. Who was it?

God, that was an amazing sequence to watch. People hated Gary McGhee and Brad Wanamaker so much their first couple of years.

Think there is any chance the hate for Stallings over his first couple seasons could dissipate over the years should several of his kids develop the way we hope?

I think it could, especially given that the Sean Miller fantasy should be gone at this point.

I think a temper tantrum was inevitable for any coach we could have reasonably hired except for Brandin Knight, and I think he would have been an absolute disaster.

Even if you get a guy like Andy Enfield, that’s still a clear step back from Dixon, he no longer plays his Dunk City style (just like Smart no longer does his Havoc defense at Texas), and now you have the FBI sniffing around USC.

So I just don’t think there was any winning if you’re Pitt. And I’m hopeful that the temper tantrum subsides if Stallings gets Pitt back to the NCAAs, because what Pitt needs more than anything is stability and proof that a coach not named Jamie Dixon can win and sustain success at Pitt.

Good reply! I totally agree!

Stallings might literally have been the worst hire possible. Enfield would have been meh but I’d give him a chance. Some up and comer, maybe we would get lucky. Stallings? No upside whatsoever, old, and not a good record at his previous gig he was about to get fired at.

I think Stallings has a much better chance of winning at Pitt enough to show that it’s possible to do it here outside of Dixon than an up-and-comer would.

At least given the quality of up-and-comer Pitt had available to it.

I don’t have concerns with his record at Vanderbilt. It’s freaking Vanderbilt. He went to the NCAAs as many times in his 17 years there as they’d been to in their entire history before him. They’re basically Pitt in terms of their overall lack of relevance.

I surely agree with this.
