Pickett to the Browns.

Mason Rudolph’s name is coming up to come back and serve as a back up. I’m cool with that.

And actually, I’m fine with him coming back as the starter and the Steelers going 6-11. Frankly there’s no difference between that and 9-8 and getting pummeled in a playoff road game.
after how mason was handled here and lied to over and over, he'd be insane to come back and sign under tomlin.

of course he isnt exactly swimming in offers. btw, was it DEI mike or Colbert who said the steelers had him as a "first round grade" when they drafted him?

Oh I can. POS organization. That's why Fields bolted. It's a 1 year deal for a dude who knows the Steelers defense and the AFC north. Plus, they still have Watson so he will be competing with him and probably a rookie. Who knows maybe he will start a few games and get a Fields type contract afterwards.
Pickett became a lightning rod for all things wrong about the Steelers and gave that TNUC PG Jerry Dulac an Oepidus to his complex.
Now he doesn’t have to worry about getting destroyed by an unblocked Myles Garrett.
I loved the Steelers from when I was knee high, but at my age I take a dim view of people pretending to be better than they are and finding scapegoats to cover their mistakes.
I’ll root for any team KP plays for.

Please! They got how many years of service out of a guy who they could have got the same production out of with a 5th round pick? You’re really in a slump today.

You don’t draft guys #1 overall who aren’t going to be around in 4 years and then signs a 1.5 million dollar/1year deal for a 2nd contract with someone else.

I’m not surprised that you think it’s wise to pick a RB in the 1st round who averages less than 4 yards per carry in his career.

What a great way to waste draft capital. !!!
Ummm have you been around lately? That's kinda what the Steelers do. How quickly we forget Artie Burns, Ziggy Hood, Terrelle Edmunds, Devin Bush. I would argue Pickett had a better Steelers career than all of them. I hope Kenny shuts everyone up.

Colbert wasnt calling the shots at the end, everyone knows that.
I don't know Kevin Colbert but I do know a relative of his and he isn't the 1st person close to the situation that says Mike rules player personnel with an iron fist.
Tomlin’s involvement in scouting is said to be tops in the league. It’s what he’s known for in coaching and league circles.
I've never heard that before. When Belichick and Coughlin were in the league I heard those names year in and year out in terms of how extensive they were in the research process of potential draft picks/FA's.
Ah
So Mike wanted Kenny overriding Colbert and Art
And then traded him 2 years later ?

You guys love moving goalposts!
Mike said he wants "volunteers" not "hostages."

And now all you hear is Tomlin’s.

I actually disagree. If the Steelers had gone 6-11 the last couple years instead of limping in and getting crushed in Buffalo and Baltimore, they'd be sitting in a much better position going into this season. Then again, I'd be banking on the draft picks they'd have being too high for even Coach T to screw up, which I'm not sure is totally correct.

Well yes that’s what I meant and I agree. I just didn’t spell it out. 6-11 yields a better draft position and in many ways is a more productive season than 9-8 and a playoff game that’s over 10 minutes into the game.

Let me ask you this. 1000 yards is nothing these days. So what’s the new bench mark? 1500? And if it’s 1500, then that’s an average of 30 more rushing yards per game from your RB. Would that warrant drafting the kid from Boise St? 30 yards is nothing to snuff at IMO. Could mean keeping drives alive and a couple more 1st downs per game.

That said, there’s no guarantee the kid is going to give you 30 yards per game more production than Najee. So I wouldn’t do it. No way.
Didn't the "thousand yard" standard become an accomplishment when the schedule was 12 or 14 games? Either way, with a 17 game schedule, I'd think 1,500 yards would be more of an achievement. And that's been done a hundred times or so? As it stands, you only need 60 yards per game to reach 1,000 yards. 16 players rushed for 1,000 yards last year. Not really all that special and Najee was 14th on that list. Rico Dowdle had more yards.

a great college RB as a first Rd pick is a "luxury" pick. if you have a nice roster, and the player is absolutely special, then yes, you go for it..

The steelers were far away from having that luxury and Najee is far from being a spectacular talent. he's about as run of the mill as you get, dime a dozen guy in the nfl. it was a bad pick and his production can be replicated at a fraction of the cost with a much later draft pick.

there is a reason the chargers signed him to a very heavy incentive based salary.
It doesn't even take a "great" college RB. I think it's more about scheme and OL. Just need someone who can hit the right hole, make a cut, and have a little quickness. Najee is sort of unique because he's struggled with all three.

listening to steeler nation, radio shows, twitter, we all agree, need a year or two to "rebuild" or whatever you call it. need to figure this roster out, position themselves for a higher draft pick in 2026 and "right the ship."

it happened in 2003 when we got Big Ben, went 6-10 with tommy maddox and that got us Ben who got us super bowls. it's soooo obvious to everyone, the media, the fans but you know who wont allow it. so we'll go 9-8 and this never ending run of mediocrity will remain as it is the "new standard" for the steelers..

I'll let Shannon say what we are all thinking..

Now who allegedly made that happen ?

And when ?
Because let’s go back
2008 - Mendenhall
2009- ziggy hood
2013 - Jarvis jones
2016 Artie burns

Revisionist history is fun !

Colbert was good when the Steelers were in a position to draft the best available. That's what teams like the Eagles do now.

Once you start drafting for absolute need, a couple misses sets you back years.

yeah, the steelers used to boast about not drafting for need but drafting the "best player available." Well great if you have that luxury, which we did for years.

Unfortunately that's a luxury we dont have anymore.

This can’t be true according to Souf

I think there is a sound compromise on that. You rarely have on glaring need. So in that case if you have multiple needs it makes side to pick the guy who can make the most impact at one of those positions

Secondly even if you had a glaring need at say Wr. When it comes time to pick to you draft a guy who you don’t think is going to be a star at Wr or do you pick a guy who can be all pro at another position and then trade for the Wr you need ? Or sign one in free agency

So I do think Best player available makes sense

How was he mistreated ‘
Making millions holding a clipboard?
Only to be a backup on a terrible team after failing as a starter ?
Leading his team to have the #1 draft pick as a result ?

My god......Russell Wilson on the Browns....with Kenny Pickett and the Steelers with Skylar Thompson at QB. The Browns still being the Browns and the Steelers now as the Browns South.

Honestly wonder if they will kick the tires on a Kirk Cousins trade at this rate- since he’s a $27mil backup now .
Or simply hope they can move up if shadeur sanders falls down to the middle of the first

I hope they crash and burn like hugely next year. This 9-8/10-7 seasons have become like drugs and have completely clouded their judgement.

Moving more picks to trade up for Sanders would be asinine. They'll either suck bad enough this coming year or will use all these compensatory picks they'll get next year to move up (or some combination of both) and take a guy then. As corny as it is, Rooney wants the Cinderella story of taking the next guy while the draft is here.

You're totally right on this, plus I don't see Sanders falling to a spot where the Steelers would move up. Sadly that Cinderella story will be them picking the Ped State QB.

Cousins is a better option than Rodgers but I think the Steelers already made up their minds and the only reason Rodgers isn't signed is yet is money.

That's all this franchise needs - to have Prime Sanders loosely associated with it. If they do that, I sincerely hope they bring back Joey Porter and find a consulting position for AB.
