golf is down, has to be. im talking like the last 5-10 years. I drive by courses all the time and see no one playing. I haven't seen a golfer on South Hills golf course in like 5 years, the one in Baldwin. even south park municipal course, I don't see anyone playing. this course, I used to go out on sunday in high school and play it, it would be a 6 hour round there were so many damn people playing on this course and now, I drive by on a Saturday at noon in the summer and I may see a few people but that's it.
kind of a shame but I get it, too time consuming. wife/girlfriend nags the hell out of you for being gone all day on a Saturday, not worth the headache. golf is a single man's game.
Oh dude, it is hugely down. Courses and country clubs are being shuttered almost daily. I always say that, "I drive by XXXX course and there is no one playing". Or if you see guys on the course, 75% of the time, they are retirees.
Kids really don't play it at all. Millenials don't play. It is not cool enough. I don't play much either, and I am in sales. People don't play. It is amazing, with cell phones and laptops, you would think it frees up people to be more flexible with their time to allow people to pursue leisurely activities, but no, we have less time than ever.
Then there is the big thing. When I was a kid, and the immediate decade after me, kids were kids and did kids things, with coaches. Now? Whatever the kids are doing, the parents have to be a part of it. Every practice, every game, they have to be there. No wonder why kids are so self absorbed, parents nowadays when they have kids, they sign their lives away to only doing things for their kids. And kids today, you can't have a little league with local kids sponsored by local businesses, or even a local school playing other local schools, you have to be part of "traveling" teams.
I don't know how many times I ask a buddy or someone if they want to do something, and it is "no, we are going to Indianapolis this weekend because there is a cheer competition for little Suzie" or "we are going to Rochester this weekend for a volleyball tourneyment for little Billy". I am like, ;THEY ARE 12 YEARS OLD!! Cant they find a volleyball match close by? It is a money grab in many respects. But seriously, this consumes so much time of 30-40 year old adults instead of golfing, etc.... And parents fill compelled to, they are horrible parents if they don't.
