Pirates In First Place and The Place is Empty??

amen to all of this.. dude's playing in jean shorts, holding a can of beer, lining up their putt like it's the masters, lol. because if he misses it, he'll shoot a 103 instead of a 102, better take your time. I just saw you pick up your ball out of the sand trap and throw it in the grass, and NOW you are going to line up a putt like it's important?

these same types are the ones who are 230 yards out and waiting for the foursome in front to putt out and leave the green before they hit because one time in 1995, he "Stuck" the green with his 3 wood. sure enough, he Thurmon Munson's it (dead yank) into the woods.

This made my day

It’s a just terrible !

I mean,how selfish !

Did your parents have to attend every practice you had in Little League or Jr High or High School? Did you need to have your parents drive 400 miles and spent a night in a hotel to play a volleyball game?

Unless your kid is a Sidney Crosby or prodigy like that, there is absolutely no need to be traipsing up and down the East Coast or Midwest as a 12 year old to have "cheer" competitions or a baseball game.

no it's not, its realistic. pitt isnt' winning a NC in football in my lifetime, im 41.. I know this, accept it, and am fine with it.. I want to compete in ACC, hopefully get 1 ACC championship game per decade, that's my goal for pitt football.

Nothing wrong with living on planet earth. Bocci is something I want to get into. I feel like I have to be old and Italian to have any realistic shot of this happening though. I kid you not, I would really like to play bocci.
You’re a pessimist because you’re accustomed to Pitt having only been crap in your lifetime.....your experience doesn’t set a ceiling for Pitt athletics. Pitt can absolutely win another national championship in FB if the commitment is there. Pitt was in far worse shape in 1973 and rose from the ashes.

I'd love to be wrong. my opinion isn't really an indictment on pitt specifically, I feel the same about 96% of the D1 teams. like I said, I truly hope I am wrong.

Del, you are taking a really small sample size and making it a "ceiling". No, Pitt is not equipped nowadays to play big time football on the level they did during that small window of 1976-1982. College football's landscape, focus, axis and scope has completely changed since then.

this is how "hockey" parents were when I was a kid but now you see it in a lot of sports. my niece is in lacrosse in high school and they go to florida, for some reason everyone who plays lacrosse has to go to Norfolk for some huge tournament. my daughter asked to be in competitive cheer, she's 9, mainly because she wanted to go to las vegas for their competition.

I definitely see a lot of travel with youth sports. Id make the travelling all-stars in baseball when I was a kid and that basically meant we'd "Travel" to mt. Lebanon, upper st. clair and Baldwin. That's what travel was in the 80's, now it means out of state..

Yeah yeah, you are from Europe and you hate American culture, we get it. We’ve heard it before. Yet you still call it your home so must not be too bad.

No one said hating baseball is un-American, no one compared it to pissing on the flag. Quit making up crap to justify your stance. You don’t like it, own that and don’t feel the need to create an opposition that doesn’t exist to support your agenda.

I'm not from Europe, I was born in Western PA.

Disagree...

Well what the hell am I talking about then? I thought you were from Portugal or something. My bad.

He lives in Maryland but makes the argument that travelling 4 hrs to a pitt game is like taking a row boat from Portugal

Lol, I drove in from Frederick md for a few pitt games myself. Not exactly dreadful but not fun either.

And kids today, you can't have a little league with local kids sponsored by local businesses, or even a local school playing other local schools, you have to be part of "traveling" teams.

You don't have to, You can find teams and leagues that just play local. My daughter is in 11th grade and still plays soccer at high school, She's played for 10 years now, and only one year with a travel team, and even then, our farthest travel was a 3 hour drive, and practice was never more than 20 minutes away, so you can avoid that if you want to.

It's just NOT WORTH IT more than once or twice a year, I'd rather do other things and not the same thing every weekend.

Well it was always like that with hockey because there were so few rinks.

I know you do, but you are wrong.[/QUOTE]
Not... there’s absolutely NOTHING which precludes Pitt from winning a National championship in FB.. we can sit here and debate odds but your suggestion that there have been certain changes in FB over the last 30 years which somehow preclude Pitt from grabbing the brass ring is pure poppycock!

Del, it is closer to 40 years. Duquesne was relevant in basketball back then too, in fact had a better program than Pitt.

None of what you cite are”reasons”...pitt hasn’t given a crap about FB for most of the last 40 years...that accounts for the ineptitude and not endemic changes in college FB. If you want to resign yourself to Putt being an Also ran, be my guest....I’m not in that camp and truth be told neither is the coaching staff nor team.

What is going on in Pittsburgh.
The Pirates are off to a great start and PNC Park is empty like I mean really empty???

It's Masters weekend so what there's not that many golfers in PIttsburgh, its a little cold, so what Mrs Buffett and I played golf at 8:15 this morning and it was 29 F when we teed off. No frost delay what a break!

This is one reason why PITT has trouble getting coaches. A winning first place team and the place MLB Pro team in a Pro town is a ghost town!
The fans are terrible!

"it's five o'clock somewhere"
Signed: Mr Buffett
Go PITT & CSU Rams!
The Pirates have spent decades underperforming (Remember the all time record 20 consecutive losing seasons) and crapping on the fans (litterally giving away Cutch for nothing). MLB is an uneven playing field (The annual draft is limited to American and Canadian born amateurs. No other pro sport does that. Considering over half the players come from Latin and South America it is a slap in the face to smaller market teams.)

The paying customers are never wrong. If a team doesn't draw well enough the team players, management and marketing staffs are the ones at fault - not the customers. Not EVER the customers!

Local talent not close to what it was
TV Exposure is better for everywhere and all teams.
Southern schools openly recruit African Americans
Pro Football in cities dwarf college football
Social Media exposing every weakness of your program (ie yellow seats)
Facility Arms raise continues.

Those are "reasons".

Nutting and Coonelly are jagovs. Fans are on to the con. Ownership expects fan outrage to cool and the fannies to return when the weather warms. I'm not sso sure this time. I'll get to my share of games without forking over one nickel to the Pirates or to their official resell partner. But that total -- around 10 games -- is way down from 30-40 just a few seasons ago. I purged my closet of Bucco gear. For me, my hatred of Nutting and Coonelly eclipses my love of the franchise. I can love baseball without supporting these carpetbaggers.

People were pissed at Nutting and that had to hurt season ticket and sales for individual games.

The weather is and has been miserable so forget about walk ups....

Attendance is going to take a BIG hit this year....predictions and expectations are very low.
They probably can’t win 80.....and fans HATE Nutting.

Having said that and also think Nutting is a POS owner , still pulling for them...
The way they're going, they may win 80 by the All Star break! LOL

Seriously, the early reviews of the lineup are PDG! Polanco finally showing power, Dickerson looks like a great pickup for LF and Moran has been solid at 3b, maybe solving a long term problem there.
Bell picking up where he left off, Harrison and Mercer steady and Cervelli lights out. If Marte gets a little better, that's a potent starting 8. Defense has been good as well.

Starting pitching has been ok to good. Taillon, Nova, and Williamson have been great. Need Kuhl and Brault to improve, or Musgrove to get healthy to eat some innings.
Pen has been atrocious. That's the weak link, but also the easiest to repair. Maybe some of these guys just need warm weather and work. Some good arms there, and Vasquez/Rivera is a good closer.
The bench is much improved, Freese, Frazier, Rodriguez and Diaz are solid, and if the pitching straightens out, Osuna is another quality bat.

Cards and Cubs don't look as invincible as they did before and Reds suck, haven't seen Brewers yet and they have been Pirate killers.
So far, don't miss headcase Cole or slow start McCutcheon a bit.

Too bad Nutting is such a jag because this team would be easy to root for and support. One thing I'd bet, for sure, if they're close or contending in August this year, they'll spend some $ due to the backlash and publicity.

Our outfield is very likely better this year than last, without cutch. I love cutch but we got his best years and shouldn’t have signed him. That move was a good one.

The problem is they got garbage in return.
They waited too long to trade him. The return was low because he is an aging UFA at the end of the year. No leverage.
Crick may help in the bullpen later in the year, and who knows about the young outfielder.
But yeah, they should have moved him last year to the Nats when he had more value.

Watched it today.....
BUT I’m just a dumb fan V the Saber geniuses

You know BA doesn’t count
Neither do RBI
Same with HRs even though batters only went out last yr and broke the all time record....by about 500
So it’s hard for me to tell but position players look good to me...

Pitching????? Who knows.

Maybe Kang should change his name too....to Jones. Get him in here.

Im just going to roll wif it and keep on rooting....because I’m just a dumb fan.
