Their size and athleticism on D is also pretty tough for this team to match up with. No real outside shooting and not much size to counter with.
Too many empty possessions. No chance to recover when you get nothing. Not to mention more fouls.
I'd rather they play. It's a good learning experience for the team. You gotta keep your wits about you when you're getting stomped. Fight back, make it a game if you can. I don't want to watch all of Duke's flotsam out there.
Your right, its not. Thats why Bill Self uses it as Kansas. Hes the master at junk defense. Self isnt sitting around letting 1 player shoot 100%for the whole game on his way to 50 points for 1 player.
This is what I feared. duke has incredible talent that is tall and strong that is realllu hard for Pitt to match
No shame in how they played. Just simply overmatched. I said earlier for Pitt to even have half a chance Pitt would have to play over their heads and Duke would have to have an off game

You really think Capel should have switched to a triangle and 2 during this game? hmmm ...
Another problem is when pitt goes small, which means really small, they still lack a sharpshooter. Not bashing at all, I expected this, and you only get better playing the best so this is a great game for these guys. I expect them to keep making plays in the 2nd half that make you ask why are they trying so hard they can't win!
When Kansas State went to the Elite 8 with Jacob Pullen and Denis Clemente. Bill Self used the same tri 2 defense 3 times in all 3 games that year against them and Kansas beat them every single time, 3 for 3. It works when the time calls. Jamie Dixon was never one to think outside the box. Id like to see Capel throw a new wrinkle in this game.

Again if your a big and you don’t get excited about playing for Pitt on this stage you don’t have a pulse
Capel needs to have the Oakland zoo play defense. Just crowd the basket. Refs also need to let these kids play a little more physical. Soft fouls against a dump truck of a player seems odd.

We could play a 1-2-3–triangle and 4 amoeba packline defense and we’d still be down by 9 at the half.
Last possession before the tv timeout. We sagged and packed the paint and Zion lost the handle on the ball. Pack the paint, we have zero to lose at this point.
He can’t have that much on it, almost no one takes more than 3-5k unless you’re a known chump.
Maybe he is a chump though, Duke was -13.5 but closed at only -12 at many places. So he basically bet “a ton” of money on a game where the line moved the other way.
There are some wins coming up for this Pitt team here fairly soon I think. Obviously it’s going to be hard to beat Louisville 2 times in a span of 17 days especially at their place but I definitely think after this game at Louisville the next 3 games at Clemson, Syracuse at home, and at Wake Forest are all winnable games. I think Pitt will win at least 2 of those 3 games and get to 14-9 overall and 4-6 in conference heading into their last 8 games which will at least still give them a pulse of staying in potential bubble talk for the NCCA Tournament. Still a lot of basketball left to play and I still believe this team has a chance to play it’s way on to the bubble of making the tournament. Whether they do or not we will have to see time will tell.
Others have mentioned this but I see no evidence to indicate that this is at all probable.
