In all the yrs I’ve followed Pitt I can only think of 4 number 1 picks , Billy Knight , Charles Smith , V Cummings and Adams .
Zion has a Duke jersey on but is playing for his own draft stock.
@DT_PITT Thought I would follow up with you. I ran a search on tri 2 defense ncaa tournament history. Bill Self beat #1 North Carolina in The Elite 8 in 2012 using it too. He switched to tri 2 in the 2nd half. North Carolina didnt score a field goal in the last 7 minutes of the game. Kansas went to the final 4 holding powerhouse North Carolina to 20 total 2nd half points. Their offense was cluless against it. I know you are a big Pitt basketball fan and basketball fan in general. Thought I would show and tell you something about a junk defense that works at the highest level against Elite college, basketball teams. Have a luttle more open mind..... Cheers
Ive known about Self using it for a long while as I watch Kansas from time to time. But you can read about the game I talked about with #1 North Carolina and Kansas beating them with a triangle 2 defense on Wikipedia using the key words triangle 2 defense. It explains its function well as the purpose is to try and contain 2 offensivly dominant players. There are many examples used. You can read how teams used it against #1 St Joes in 2004 with Nelson and West. How Rick Majerus beat powerhouse Arizona in the Ncaa Tournament with it. How Sam Houston St used it against Baylor in the Ncaa Tournament. Its a good read for any basketball fan or coach really that is interested in learning about throwing a major curveball in the middle of a basketball game to confuse the opponent and try to shut them down with a different lookCheers indeed. But "no" on the Triangle and 2.
Also, if you do mind me asking, what is the "source" of your research?
Yep.Bill Self can throw out a junk defense like that against certain teams because they practice those defenses. Just how often do we suppose that Pitt (or really just about any team) practices playing a triangle and two? And what do we suppose is the most likely outcome if a team suddenly switches to a defense that they never practice in the middle of a game against possibly the best team in the country?
It wasn’t defensive strategy that made the difference last night . Pitt just doesn’t have the horses to stay with a team as talented as Duke . Sure anything can happen in a sporting event , but I firmly believe JC needs two more recruiting classes before his Panthers can hang with a team like Duke that’s full of future NBA greats .
X ,Trey and Toney are a great start on accumulating enough talent to battle the likes of Duke and UNC . As one poster mentioned this class added to Young and Artis’s junior or senior yr now you’d have something . When these guys are juniors adding a class as impactful as they’ve been will be when Pitt is ready to take on the big boys of the ACC .
As good as Pitt bb was under JD in the BE the brand of bb we’re eventually going to see when JC gets enough of his players here is going to be the most entertaining by far . It will be hard to surpass the regular season success of those yrs , but his teams will have a better chance in the tourney .
T Brown is improving every game , his quickness is what needs to be addressed in the off season .
While TB is improving Chewy is regressing .
No doubt the competition is a lot tougher , but he looks lost out there ....lack of confidence ."While TB is improving Chewy is regressing." Chewy regressing?
Maybe just hit his ceiling (temporary or permanent one) and not able to improve against the step-up to tougher competition.
I think it’s possible only because this Syracuse team has laid some eggs this year, notably GT and Old Dominion at home.Others have mentioned this but I see no evidence to indicate that this is at all probable.
Hope I'm wrong.
Cam Reddish is shooting in 35% for the season playing with 2 probable nba all stars at Duke, hes been highly disappointing this year and he cant shoot. Hes a college bust so far for all his hype and has nba bust written all over him. He'll be an nba backup or roll player or go to a team that gets mauled yearly like the Sun's.The Triangle and 2 wouldn’t work because they had 3 superstars on the court, and our poor rebounding would get exposed even more.
He had 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists against us. He was playing well last night, so I’m not sure what you were watching.Cam Reddish is shooting in 35% for the season playing with 2 probable nba all stars at Duke, hes been highly disappointing this year and he cant shoot. Buddy Boeheim shot 100% or close to it against Pitt with around 15 points. Boeheim was shooting 20% from 3 before that game. As I said before 1 game does not make a full season. The odds are better players like Buddy Boeheim and Reddish are going to miss rather make.He had 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists against us. Ok bud.....Reddish is projected to be a Top 5 Pick by the experts, but yet you want to compare him to Buddy Boeheim. Put down the clown shoes. Newsflash - There isn’t a defense out there that we could have used to stop Duke.Buddy Boeheim shot 100% or close to it against Pitt with around 15 points. Whats your point? He cant shoot. Kwame Brown, Greg Oden, Jayson Williams, Trajan Langdon, etc.. Tons of top picks in the NBA are busts including many Duke players. This is a numbers game. Reddish for the entire season cant shoot. Its like when I was reading about Dickinson the other day because he didnt shoot well in 1 game and a bunch of people called him overrated. Hes visiting Kentucky and Kansas. Obviously those coaches dont value an opinion on 1 single game. Reddish isnt that good.Ok bud.....Reddish is projected to be a Top 5 Pick by the experts, but yet you want to compare him to Buddy Boeheim. Put down the clown shoes. Reddish is shooting 36.4% from the field and 34.4% from 3. Im not loud. I'm accurate. Those numbers stink. And they stink even more playing on a Duke all star team. You’re loud wrong
Unless you think about 40% from the field and 34% from 3 is can’t shooting.
