Pitt finds itself in what is easily the nation's best athletic conference

Don't get so worked up. It's just my opinion.

THIS IS VERY SIMPLE:

I think there are 4 good teams with overall good resumes from the Big 10 & only 2 from the ACC. After that, its all a lot of mediocre teams that aren't worth sifting through.

4 > 2.

Just so I understand correctly,

ACC is playing for the National Title, The Big Ten isnt

ACC is 8-3 in bowl games, Big Ten is 3-7

ACC beat every top team in the Big Ten, including blowing out their Playoff Team Ohio State

ACC beat every top team in the SEC pending Bama

ACC is 6-2 vs the Big Ten and 9-4 vs the SEC

Big Ten is 2-6 vs ACC and 1-2 vs SEC

Big Ten beat Western Michigan

-LOL

This should be the end of the discussion. Sadly, I expect at least 3 more pages of TD trying to defend his stance.

Please give up man.

You are the only big 10 fan here, and the fact that every metric of measuring conferences disagrees with you, you dont have a leg to stand on.[/QUOTE

I'm not a fan of the SEC, not the Big 10.

If the ACC is so strong, why are only two teams going to finish in the Top 10? Oh yeah, because it's not all that strong.

-The Big Ten has been discovered on the map, barely!!! Holy shit, TD is still alive supporting the Big Ten!!!

Hey, your opinion is just as valid as mine. But don't act like the ACC is this big bad football conference when only two teams are going to finish in the Top 10.

You are WRONG, this post does not align with TD's B1G agenda!!!

You are a clown - injuries are part of the game. I guess Pitt's loss to NW did not count since the following got hurt: All American OG, Leader in TD's in ACC History, Starting QB, 2 Starting Safeties, Including the most talented player on defense, and Starting DE.

Its NORTHWESTERN! Did you see what Tennessee did to a 10 win Northwestern team in their bowl game last year?

The reason we lost is because we simply aren't that good and our defense stunk to high heaven.

Who exactly is this We? Seriously, everyone else is posting facts, yet you continually turn a blind eye to anything that doesn't meet your BIG agenda. Please provide some shred of evidence that the BIG is the better conference.

Here is the difference. Everyone, with the exception of you, are posting facts. You are posting your opinion.

Perception (opinion) vs Reality (facts).

I posted a fact. The Big 10 put 4 teams in major bowls and the ACC had 2.

Just the fact that the Coastal Champ was in the Belk Bowl is an indictment on the league.

LMAO - now you are digging into last year. Hilarious!

I'm not arguing about Pitt. We all saw the games this season and I agree, Pitt's defense was horrendous. We are also not talking about last year, we are talking about this year. College football is different from year to year which is why the polls, especially the preseason poll that goes by the previous year's results, is totally useless. Any poll is useless if the voters are not equally divided by regions, conferences and backgrounds. If you have more B1G or SEC voters guess what, you will have more B1G/SEC votes. What is sad is these polls, thought do not determine the outcome, they influence it. All of your arguments are based on polls and not on the field results which to me are useless.

Read carefully. A committee which is influenced by B1G/SEC biased polls placed 4 B1G teams into major bowls, they did not earn their way in. Another thing I think someone mentioned was fan travelling helps influence these things too. The bowls are all about making money, you can't make money with less customers.

Calling the polls biased is also an opinion, not a fact.

So now Bowl game tie ins are a measure of conference quality/strength?

The B1G was the only conference strong enough to have a team that didnt even win their division qualify for the playoff.

Are bowl game records a signal of conference strength? Because in 2010, The Big East had the best bowl record of any BCS Conference.

This year, there was not a one single P5 Conference that was really good from top to bottom. I happen to think the B1G was best.

Its not an opinion if you actually go on the AP site and see how the voters vote. You will notice the bias in their voting, after all they are human and will cheat for their team as much as they can.

Calling the polls biased is also an opinion, not a fact.

I remember when I called him a nitter and everyone supported him.

I don't think anyone supports him now. That pathetic excuse for a human continues to post under tony Dorsetts name and photo just like he used to with dion Lewis.

There is not one in the nation saying the big 10 IS the top conference yet this Pitt fan says they are and Rips the ACC and Pitt despite knowing get Pitt outplayed northwestern. Even with dinucci winging interceptions we lost by one score

We didn't outplay NW. I thought we played v sloppy.

There is no dominate conference this year. I think that is obvious. I happen to think the Big 10 was a little better than the rest, but you could make a case for the ACC.

Regardless, the Big 10 has more top 10 teams than the ACC.

And I only post as TD6082. Never a Dion Lewis. I haven't seen that poster on the Lair in several years.

Let''s steer this boat back on course.

ACC is The best athletic conference due to:

  1. Strongest football conference THIS season
  2. Loading up on coaching talent
  3. Favorable southern demographics

Have at it

The ACC only has 2 power programs right now in Clemson & FSU. Miami has the potential to be one again. It's a stretch right now to imagine any other ACC school cycling up to the upper echelon of college football.

The ACC is easily the best basketball conference & its not even close.

#2 is also something the B1G has going for it too.

You are right... the Big 10 is definitely number 2. First accurate thing you said the whole thread.

-When Saban retires I fully expect the ACC to take over and dominate. Winning this year would be big. You are correct that the ACC in football and basketball is currently the best now and looks the best moving forward, but in college baseball the ACC isnt even close to the Pac-12. I dont follow the other sports.

WAT??

SEC is not going anywhere.. look how they recruit. ACC finally has coaches that can win the close ones. Lets see next year as the ACC loses a ton of QBs on the coastal side.. and as good as the ACC is now the TV money relies on eyeballs. Massive BIG and SEC schools will always dominate for advertisers

Baseball
ACC has 6 ranked teams in the preseason top 20, the PAC has 2.. not sure you have been following but the ACC is Stacked in baseball and is coming off a natty... At the moment the ACC is the best football, basketball, and arguably baseball as well.

There is absolutely no way to argue that the ACC wasn't the strongest football conference this season. And having loaded up on coaching talent and with its favorable southern demographics, don't look for it not to be in that conversation regularly going forward. Then you have the other revenue sport, where the ACC's depth is nearing the halcyon days of the circa 2000s Big East. It absolutely dominates some of the next closest spectator friendly sports such as soccer and lax, and is unquestionably one of the top two baseball conferences providing a September to June smorgasbord of top collegiate competition. And despite the Louisville anchor, continues to boast the best average US News ranking of member institutions among all FBS conferences. With its own network 2 years away, it is in no danger of falling behind other conferences in money distributed and membership is locked up for 20 years.

The ACC is poised to crush it going forward and it brings with it the entire eastern seaboard and the most populated footprint in the country. The geography and member schools' institutional profiles fit Pitt to a T. How could anyone want to be in any other conference at this point?

Good article in the Raleigh Paper today backing this up. http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/college/acc/article127192164.html
