Pitt - ND Game Thread

Dude, we are a MESS tonight. I'll be shocked if this doesn't carry over. The Capel Collapse has been in constipation mode, but it's alllllll coming out now.

Seriously both football and basketball… over the past 20-30 years I’m disgusted overall with the way we play generally speaking vs ND… I’ve seen far too many games that somehow resemble this situation …no way in hell we should look this bad…no way in hell
ND aside, it’s how our football and basketball always play against unworthy bad teams… always, always, always overconfident and unprepared and never stomp their skulls in like every other team does. As you said, it’s disgusting. It’s one thing to lose an honest game to a solid opponent but far worse to look like sh1t against a terrible team. This is the Georgia Tech football game from this past fall all over again. The WMU football game of 2021. And we can sadly list dozens and dozens of others. Killer demoralizing loses.

Going mighty slow up the floor for a team that’s down 15 with 4 minutes left. Need to run the floor and shoot quick to have any chance.

Hopefully get this down to a single digit loss somehow. It’s 14 now still have a chance to do that with 4 minutes left and the Irish in foul trouble.

If anyone didn't see this coming, you'd be kidding yourself. This team is NOT good defensively. And you won't win these kinds of games when you can't play defense, especially against a bad team like ND. I'd be very surprised if we can win another game before Selection Sunday, if this is who we are now. If all you rely on is scoring and raining 3's, you lose, and that seems to be what this Pitt team is, unfortunately.

I'm just praying they can beat Miami and win at least 1 game in the ACCT. Because that's what they'll need with how poorly they played tonight. But they've still had a decent season, considering what we had to start with.

I honestly didn’t see this coming. Not even remotely. At most a close one. Nothing like this.

Unprepared is the key word. And that falls on Capel's shoulders.

Well if it’s ever going to happen it has to happen now. We’re basically playing 5 against 4 for the last 4 minutes. Carmody is a pylon.

The missed layup epidemic is almost comical at this point. Almost all of these should be and-1s.

Pitt's poor defense has to get fixed if we hope to get into the NCAAT, or make any noise if we even make it in. This defense is putrid, and it's starting to be a trend.

That takes way too Much time and results in moser missed FTs.

Not sure why but we made virtually no effort to move the ball in the half court tonight. Last assist I remember was the pick and roll to Fede.

It's like they forgot what got them here.

First time we have been blown out in conference play all year, which is shocking but apparently doesn't impress the computers. And we still might not even get blown out (though I wouldn't bet on it).

It's one bad game. Sometimes it happens. Don't think it was due to lack of preparation. Let's hope that they respond well.

I hope you're right. But I'm seeing a trend with at best mediocre defense, even when we win big. Letting the opposition score more than 70 points ('Cuse scored more than 80) is not going to win many games unless you can score a bunch of 3's like we did against 'Cuse. We're not doing that tonight.

Let's see if they can bounce back against Miami. They'll now need to win that one for a lot of reasons. Losing 2 in a row at this time of year can be disastrous.

Are we blaming refs? We played zero defense. 50% fts. Absolutely cooked in most important game of the year

Yeah… no

I’m sorry I didn’t see this coming

It’s insane as hell.

If ND was so “good” they would have won a hell of a lot more games

This is entirely inexcusable

Period

It seems endemic of every Pitt coach to be unprepared and unmotivated against awful opponents. Never learn our lesson. “It happens to all teams sometimes”. Yeah on rare occasions, sure it does. But with Pitt teams, it’s almost automatic… games that should be gimmes, never are. It’s why I laugh when some posters preach that Pitt teams should pad it’s schedules against crap opponents. With Pitt, there are never crap opponents.

Has anyone seen Hinson in the second half?

Then again, when the guy that brings the ball up is the guy taking the shot on every possession, with zero passing, I guess he’d have to take it coast to coast to even get a shot.

The last time Notre Dame was called for more fouls in a game than they have tonight was February 23, 2019.

But the game isn't over yet, so we might even need to look back further than that.

And with that foul we now have to go back all the way to February 9, 2013.

Notre Dame was called for 32 that night, so I don't think we'll top that one.
