Pitt v Louisville thread

Dude, Jeffres wouldn't even be the first pick if me and my friends were playing at South Park and he showed up.
He’s a glue guy at this level
But don’t for a second believe he wouldn’t crush us jobbers

Played against some bench D1 players and even D2 starters back when I was actually in good shape and a decent player in pickup games .

When they turned it on - it was something else .

Lots of empty seats. I guess even if you’re a traditional basketball power in a hotbed of basketball, if your team sucks, people stay home.

Truth

Especially in a big arena like this

Only a band box like Cameron can stay full in lean years

Is this dude in the straight jacket going to try to escape from it or play Jeffres 1 on 1 in it? I think he could probably succeed at both.

Give me Lowe and some good portal players and I can see a nice team next year.

Lowe is something special on both ends of the court. I just hope he doesn't bolt for a payday at some blue blood. We need guys like Jaland on in this program. He reminds me of a Wannamaker or a young Brandin Knight.

From what I'm seeing, 'Ville and Pitt are fairly evenly matched as teams. We have the superior talent, but we can't seem to show that we do yet. Maybe the second half will be different. We should be able to blow this team out of the water by 20 with their players out and limited depth.

If Capel loses this game he should be fired ..this LVille team just suxx and we are making it close

Yeah. Right now, Capel is coaching this team to play even with a bad 'Ville team. If we can't beat these guys by at least 20, we have problems. And it's not the players.

His ceiling is very high. I feel like he can get so much better. Love his quickness, he is quicker and has a better burst than Bub.

If they were at full strength I'd be worried. I didn't realize they had so many guys out. But we'll pull away and win by double digits, I think. We should be able to clean some things up and coast.

Biggest issues at halftime

Guillermo has taken 1 shot- Seriously?

Blake Hinson and Zach Austin have a combined 3 rebounds. These 2 together have 1 defensive rebound in the first half. Seriously?

Louisville is shooting 55% as a team in the first half. Seriously?

The Pitt bench of Jorge, Fede, and Jeffress is non existent.

Does anyone on this team today want to rebound besides Guillermo and the 2 freshmen guards? Doesn't look like it.

The announcers going on and on about Pitt’s 3-point shooting at the start “they were 5 of 12”. That’s literally 1 more than average.

Jeff is neither coaching or committing the dumb mistakes that are keeping the Ville in it. We have a more talented and superior team, but, you have to go out and execute. Last I checked, Capel was not playing. The one mistake Jeff has made is giving Fede playing time. He is unfit to play ACC basketball at this point.

GDG I think had two opportunities to shoot (in the lane) after getting an offensive rebound. He never looked for the shot

Turnovers by Louisville (and our points off of them) are why Pitt is ahead

Thoughts:

1) I get the three. I do. They can do it well at almost all 5 positions. But they fall in love with them too much.
2) I would have thought Austin would be better on the boards, nonetheless a good game so far.
3) Twins. You guys aren't point guards. Stop pushing the break and give it up.
4) Hinson. I drive to the hoop under better control. Don't.
5) Capel, run some more stuff for Hinson to get open looks
6) Freshman guards....dont change anything.

How many of those games were with 7 scholarship players available?

I don't know, but they haven't played a lot of guys all season. In their last six games they've only played more than seven for more than 10 minutes once. One time (Virginia Tech) they only had six guys with more than six minutes. So I'm guessing that one way or another they've been short handed all season, or at least for most of it.

And to add, we were an 8-1/2 point favorite and we are ahead by nine at the under 16 timeout in the second half. I think people's expectations aren't really in line with reality.

All of your pts were right on. #3? They both should
give it up to a guard and sprint to the hoop for the
give back and lay up/dunk. 6'11" and trying to handle
on the break?...geeeze.

I'm referring more specifically to how Louisville is playing today. Neither team played well in the first half, really. And their leading scorer had a goose egg going.

Fede and Diaz both on the floor now
Capel...did you forget about Lowe?
Get him back in the game.

Please Jeff, no Fede! When he is in the game the entire defense rests. I mean all 5 guys just stand there.

Hinson slump continues, its either 4 or 5 games and counting

3-9 shooting, 1-5 from 3, 3 turnovers and counting. Although Hinson did grab a defensive rebound, finally

You have the first 4 words right. He isnt coaching. Its clear he does not have the 3 point shooters to keep shooting them, but he refuse to post up Austin or any other big man. Playing most of the game with one ball handler is just stupid.
