The Pirates play at home and their game starts at 1:05. I wonder if it will be the prime time game on ABC.
Yup. There’s actually a good chance this game gets chosen for College Gameday. Only other good games that day are USC-Stanford and UCLA-Oklahoma, along with Georgia-South Carolina. The all SEC game will probabaly get the SEC Network Gameday thing and we’ll be in the running for the big one. But if it’s on ABC, we have to be the favorite.Wow. Did Nutting move the game for TV or did he do it out of the goodness of his heart? Very surprising he'd move their big-time game vs the Marlins for one of the biggest college football games in HF history.
This has to mean 8PM ABC, right?
Wait, thought some swore this could never be on the table?
Surprise surprise. The Pirates do in fact have some control over their schedule. Maybe I should bump an old post where some have said otherwise. ;-)
You have it exactly backwards. The Pirates (for the most part*) DO have control of their game times. We don't. That's why they always have the choice as to when to play. The Pirates CHOSE to change their game time to help out Pitt. Had the Pirates chosen not to change their game time then their game time wouldn't have changed, no matter what delusional Pitt fans wanted.
* - The "for the most part" is because theoretically if Fox had a national television window that Saturday and they scheduled a Pirate game as one of their games then the Pirates would play when they were told to, just like we play when the television networks tell us to. Fortunately for us, the Pirates aren't playing someone like the Cubs that weekend, they are playing the Marlins, and even fewer people care about the Marlins than the PIrates.
FSU and ND both that season. Now that was a good schedule.About time we have a meaningful night game again. I believe the last night game to my memory with any importance was the FSU game in 13. There may have been one other one, but past few years been North Carolina or Marshal. I miss the night backyard brawl games the most so this will bring back that feelings.
Sets up as a potentially big day for anyone who wants to do it. If Gameday does show up, you could do Gameday in the morning, Pirates in the afternoon, and Pitt-Penn State at nite. Makes for a long day but fun if you have the stamina for all that. Sunday is a day of rest.A Panther and a Mountaineer work together to embarrass the Nits on national TV... sounds good to me.
You also forgot Clemson vs Texas A&M which should be two too 25 teams. To be honest I highly doubt Pitt Penn state game is gameday. The other games feature several top 25 matchups.Yup. Boy will that be a fun game. Now I don’t have to wake up early to watch an 11 AM game in my time zone

Good thing for Pitt that the Succos needed some positive PR.
Good call, didn’t see Clemson-A&M when I was looking at the schedule. You also forgot Clemson vs Texas A&M which should be two too 25 teams. To be honest I highly doubt Pitt Penn state game is gameday. The other games feature several top 25 matchups.
I am guessing this game is a 7pm ESPN game.
And then 2019 will be the all-out war, just in time for everyone to say, “thank goodness the series is over.”2016 was family friendly. Last year at state college it was a drunken orgy in the lots. 2018 seems like a time to hide the women and children
A pure money grab by nutting.
Lots of fans will go see the bucs... then tailgate until gametime.
If the Pitt game was at noon....no one is going to PNC Sat night.
This jagov has not changed his stripes and doesn't deserve any props from us.
ESPN typically puts its premier SEC home night game at 7 p.m. on either ESPN regular or ESPN2. I'd definitely say 8 p.m. on ABC is a good possibility for PSU/Pitt.Good call, didn’t see Clemson-A&M when I was looking at the schedule.
Someone on the pay board who had prior knowledge of this said it’s going to be 8pm ABC, FWIW. We’ll see. It’s progress, though.
Like usual your reality is wrongI don't have it backwards. Others who say the Pirates have no control have it backwards.
don't kid yourself....those WVU billboards vs. PSU didn't go over to wellHonestly, I give credit to the Bucs. They didn't have to do this. It's gonna be fun!
Like usual your reality is wrong
Few west of the Mississippi is interested in watching a Pitt PSU game. i can't see any chance at ABC scheduling it that night. Herbsreit is always catching the corporate jet to hook up with Fowler after Gameday. Used to be that Gameday was at the venue of the big game that night. Then they started having events in North Dakota and such places.
Good breakdown. I would expect the lineup to look the same way as you mentioned. FOX could probably do a pretty sweet doubleheader with them having rights to the PAC 12 and Big 12 home games.Almost guaranteed to be 8PM ABC.
Clemson/A&M is part of the SEC package which cant play on ABC. That'll either be 3:30 CBS or ESPN primetime.
FOX does 2 games per day so it will have at least one of UCLA/OU, USC/Stanford. It might have both. Even if it doesn't, the other one is ABC 3:30.
I don't see a way that this game couldn't be 8PM ABC. Though College Gameday would have to be going to College Station
People have literally said that the Pirates can't control or change their game times.
Well another thing, there is more of a chance that people would go to the early Pirates game then tailgate and Pitt/PSU then tailgate early go to the football game, then stick around for a few hours to go to a baseball game. So in many ways, Bobby Nutts evaluated what would be best for his situation.
That isn't what people say. People have bitched for years and years that Nutting COULD change the time of the Pirates' game to accommodate a night game for Pitt but that he refused to do so. Other people have said that Pitt should do whatever they want, the Pirates be damned, even though there are contracts about how such things work. But nobody has said that the Pirates have no control over their game times, with the limited exception of when Fox wants the Pirates game for a national television window.
If the Pirates truly had no control over their start times then why would anyone have ever blamed Nutting for Pitt having to play games at noon instead of at night? That would make literally no sense. They'd be arguing that the blame for a noon kickoff should go to a person who has no control over the game times. Do you really not get how crazy that would be?
People have bitched for years about the start times precisely because the Pirates are the ones that control game times. The reason that Pitt always got the noon games and the Pirates always got the night games is because that is exactly the way that the Pirates wanted it. They want it that way because they draw much bigger crowds on Saturday nights than they do on Saturday afternoons.
I really can't believe that someone could be on this board as long as you have and get something that has been discussed as often as this has so completely and utterly backwards.
