Pittsburgh Steelers Select Sam Darnold, QB, USC

From your keyboard to God's ears! Darnold looks like the second coming of Joe Montana...wow!

As a Jets fan all I have is PSU's 2016 Addition by Subtraction award winner Christian Hackenshit

Amazing how anybody could actually draft a guy with a 53 completion % in college in the second round.

The Steelers better lose a lot of games over the next two years to have a chance to draft him

lol trade up from high 20's to #1. Yes, that should be easy to do.

-Trade Brown and Bell, both of them. That should net some serious value for a Top 5ish RB and WR. This offensive trio has been overrated for a while now.

Well eagles navigated from 15 to 2 and when it's all said and done all they really have up was a 2nd round pick which their getting back with other trades so technically they have nothing, steelers could maneuver but it depends on where they end the season

Trade up for the pick.

Trade your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick to whoever has the 1st pick in the year Darnold comes out.
That would not be enough to move up to that high of a position in the draft. Look at what the Eagles gave up to get Carson Wentz, two first round choices, a second, a third and a fourth scattered over 3 draft classes.

The Eagles gave up a haul but they got all their picks back with other trades so technically it's not a lot

He will be eligible to be drafted next year if he wants to come out after his 3rd year out of high school.

Assuming his career stays on the same trajectory it currently is there will be at least six to eight bottom feeders in the NFL duffing on purpose to have a right to draft him. Any good GM would not trade that pick for anything. Believe me, they will be throwing games big time to get him, his upside and his poise seem to be unlimited!

-In his first year he had as many passing yards as Big Ben, without having Brown and Bell on the team. I would say the Eagles were smart for doing this and drafted a player to build the future around.

-I dont want to see another Tommy Maddux or Bubby Brister or junk QB on this team. Unlike College, in the NFL you need an Elite QB generally to win a superbowl. There is more than enough history that proves this. Darnold is only 19 years old which is incredible. Wentz is 24 already. The upside of doing this is enormous even if we had to dump Bell and Brown to make it work.

Lololololololol

-Its actually perfect. Brown's contract is up in 2018, Bell's in 2017. Give Bell a 1 year extension to bank the trade so we dont break the bank to keep either of these players long term.

-In the last 5 years Pittsburgh offense failed to finish in the Top 20 twice. One playoff win in 5 years. Ben getting old.

-We get a franchise QB before his 21st birthday. We dump 2 players that dont win in the playoffs. They can prove me wrong this year since we actually made the NFL playoffs. Heck, we can throw a few more players in to get him.

The stupidity of this thread astounds me. We're supposed to flush Ben's last 4-5 years down the toilet for a prospect. The team has been largely rebuilt, and our window is open, and will be for the next 4-5 years, and we're supposed to flush that away for an unproven player. Darnold might be the next Ben. He also might be the next Jeff George. Who is he supposed to play with after we let our best players go, and trade away all of our draft picks? He'd be Phillip Rivers, a good qb stuck on a bad team.

-Do you see the current roster winning any superbowls? Or even competing for one? When this kid comes out Big Ben will be 37 years old and Brown will be 30. The oldest player in the entire league right now that isnt a kicker or punter is 39, Tom Brady. This kid will be in the 2019 NFL draft. Big Ben's Steeler contract is over in 2020. We are talking 1 year difference here, not 5 years. And this kid wont even be 21 yet.

-The Chargers also had some great seasons under Rivers, and were close to winning a Superbowl. They simply couldnt beat New England. We never could in the playoffs either.

Yes. I see them playing in the AFC championship with a chance at a Super Bowl, this season and to be better next year.

I guess rebuilding, and untimely injuries going into the playoffs the last 2 years don't count for anything, eh? I see this as a complete fail if the Steelers did something like this to get Darnold. He is real good I agree though.

-Perfect replacement for Big Ben in 2 more years. This kid has it, big time has it. My goodness is he so much better than anyone else. Dam can he pass. Wow.
Only kid in an upcoming draft with the head size to share a helmet with Big Ben...

I think they have a 3 year window including this year. After that its likely Ben will be to old and Brown and Bell will lose a step. They should go all out to win now. Sign the best OLB available in FA.

While I don't think the Steelers will go the Stoudt, Malone, Blackledge, Storm, Bubby, O'Donnell, Kordell, Miller, Graham, Maddox route again, they're not trading a whole draft class away for one player.

Once Ben is gone they'll have a bad season or two and have a top 10 pick, that's when they'll toss the dice on a qb.

Landry Jones had the same kind of success , in college. Just saying. The guy that just got fired from the 49ers, found out that spread passing systems just get your qb in trouble. And all college teams now use some or a lot of it.

The Cowboys got Dak in the 4th round didn't they? But no, let's give up Bell, Brown, and a slew of picks to draft this dude.

Good looking kid, no doubt. But the Steelers haven't drafted high enough to take a kid like Darnold since 1970 and won't in 2 years.

When was the last time the Steelers drafted in the top 10? I am betting you some of you weren't even alive.

-We took Big Ben 11th, and played in 3 Superbowls with him and won 2 of them. Manning was the #1 pick and also won 2 superbowls that draft class. The Steelers went from a 6-10 team to a 15-1 team with Big Ben the following year. Ben won 2 Superbowls in his first 5 seasons.

Let it go. You are making an ass of yourself. And besides, there is no way of telling if Darnold, or any other top QB is the second coming of Peyton Manning or the second coming of Ryan Leaf.

The only way this possibly happens is if Big Ben has a career threatening injury. We tank next year. Then we still have to move up in the draft to get him from say the 10th spot to the top of the draft. Otherwise - faggitaboutit
