PSU luck

I; for one, would not want any of PSUs luck. Playing a bunch of teams OOC that they would have blasted Pitt for playing.

But that is just scratching the surface. Anyone that knows PA politics knows that it is nothing but a boiling cesspool. Fina and the gang are busy trying to throw out the states AG after the cretins were caught distributing porn instead of doing their jobs. You think the three stooges will be put on trial anytime soon? Likely they'll all be sipping applesauce before that happens.

No; I wouldn't want PSUs luck. While they wave the blue and white pom poms and bastardising the White Stripes song everytime somebody farts; the thought of the dispicable, sickening crimes that went on for decades will always be in the back of their minds.

Fair enough.

Three statements for the record (I know you don't care about these statements, but fair enough):

1. JoePa is not my hero.

2. I am nowhere near a JoePa Loyalist.

3. You were wrong in classifying me as one.

Says the person who posted the old "it happens everywhere" and "Sandusky is the lone bad guy" bull on a Pitt message board. Your institution covered up child rape for decades and has done zilch to correct the cultural problems that you've demonstrated that you are part of with your own words. You're pathetic, and classified correctly.

I never said that.

I'm not sure about the gloating. I lived as a kid in central Pa for many years and I lived with pretty much all penn state fans. Even then as a kid I could see the how fake paterno was. And even then I could see the fans eating it up as it was gospel. All I heard was how penn state does things the right way.

I think that movie "Something for Joey", though I did like the movie, I believe started your school's and fan's arrogance. You began to act like you were above everyone. Because of Cappelleti and Paterno they began to think penn state had some kind of divine spirit about them. Then paterno saying he was staying put in penn state because he "didn't want to leave college football to the Switzer's and Sherrill's of the world." Meanwhile he is keeping quiet all the things his players were doing. He would discipline his players himself, he wouldn't let the school do it and he disciplined them by doing virtually nothing. Of course back in those days the media wasn't all over the place so he was able to hide everything that was going on and nobody outside of happy valley knew it.

All these years your fans and school had this attitude that you were above everyone else and the fact was you were no better than anyone, just better at hiding everything. And when it all began to fall apart there was an "I told you so" attitude from everyone outside of penn state. That may be gloating, possibly. But in my opinion it was relief that maybe you guys finally learn the truth about your school and you are no better than us.

But your attitude did not change, it got worse. You started to act like the victims and it really disgusted everyone. Young kids were being abused on your campus and YOU were the victims because it hurt penn state football. That is a sick attitude. And you cannot deny that. So your fans have been in the defense mode while we have been in the put your fans in their place mode. To me that is not gloating, its more like we have had enough. You, not you personally, but your fans disgust us and we don't want any part of you. That's not only a Pitt attitude, it happens to be the attitude of most fan bases now. OSU, Michigan, Iowa, etc.

Then to make matters worse, your fans think everyone hates you because of envy. That is a "WOW" moment when I hear that.

Do you understand where we are coming from?
This post is just too spot on...Bravo...especially the Capaletti stuff ....Bingo!!! I've seen this nonsense parade flow from Happy Valley for far too many years... Penn State amounts to being a real life example of Eddie Haskell ...constantly up to no good...fooling no one...continuing to play oblivious at any suggestion of wrongdoing ...it's pretty tiresome and OLD really...

I feel sorry for you people living in the pittsburgh media bubble. The rest of the country treats penn st. as a pariah. For goodness sakes, the creep was convicted on nearly every count and basically sent away for life w/ appeal denied in a court in his native county. Just wait until the next shoe drops on the 3 administrators. Everyone knows the creep was Paterno's right-hand man. Everyone knows it was the great Penn St. defenses that won those titles. It was all a sham and everyone knows. Let it go. They are *over*.

The 3 stooges haven't gone on trial due to continuous appeals... Not anything to do with the strength of the case... Get real

Not for anyone whose priorities are football first and children second. I think it is quite fair. Of course you would either have to have been an abused child or around abused children to see how their lives have been affected to understand. It is the saddest thing you could ever see.

That's quite a nasty thing to hope for someone.

Another key figure inthe Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse case weighed in Tuesday with his take on whether former Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno was an active participant in efforts to cover up Sandusky's sex crimes.

In an interview recorded for CBS 60 Minutes Sports, former Chief Deputy Attorney General Frank Fina said flatly: "I did not find that evidence."
Dwiz, when many PSU fans read that Fina said he found no evidence of Paterno's legal guilt in a coverup, they illogically think that is a proclamation of his innocence. Of course, it's not. Many people are known to be guilty but don't get prosecuted because the evidence isn't available.
The person who knew best that Paterno Had failed was paterno. His "I should've done more" comment was how he really felt. PSU fans elated it with Schindler's comment, but it wasn't that at all. Paterno cried in shame in front of many people afterwards.

He said his good name had been destroyed and he didn't blame it on the BOTs. That wasn't because he was a big man, it was because he knew what he didn't do

It says a lot about the cesspool of PA politics when a PA state legislator wants to name a bridge "in honor of" a former PA employee (albeit a football coach) who was fired from his job because of his connection to the worst scandal in the history of collegiate sports. So let's tear down his statue, but name a bridge after him?

I'm sure that the (real) victims would be so proud......

I've never even been around an abused child before. I also probably take football games too serious. But, there is NOTHING that gets me more rowed up than when someone does something to harm a child.
Specific to the Sandusky case though, not only did that unfortunately happen, but he really was the only father figure most of these kids had. I mean that's already about the worst crime you can commit to begin with. Acting like you're a role model to kids that are vulnerable just do that, really is the saddest thing I could possibly imagine.
There's some sick people in the world, but it's hard to come close to that. Watch the documentary Happy Valley if you haven't. Yeah, it's mostly about Penn State during the aftermath. But really pay attention to Matt Sandusky during it and you'll understand.
Me telling it wouldn't do Matt enough justice. Seriously if you haven't watched it, watch it if you want to know the impact of this kind of stuff. His story was literally the saddest thing I've ever heard.

That is quite an inference for you to make. I am quite comfortable with my perspective on such things.

But wishing Hell on someone is the strongest possible curse, well, if you believe in Hell. And if you don't believe in Hell, your emotional rant has no real value.

The reality is that the rest of the country moved on and does not care...it is no longer the story...a story at all. Only in PA. We never here about in Nashville or anywhere else for that matter. PSU fans talk about it of course and PITT fans talk about it to throw it in our faces.
To Crazy Paco...when you go around saying that I personally have to be ashamed of anything, you are way off base. That is just fact. I have a neighbor three doors down the road in my neighborhood. He and his wife are Pitt grads...we watch football together and we have a good time. Not once has he ever said I should be ashamed of anything.
If you really believe that someone not involved at all needs to be ashamed, you are way out of line.

Good luck this weekend!

Ped Sate Lucky?????

Lost to Temple man

Franklin can't coach

I'm guessing big trouble for the dominator his kids will be out of control

Hail to Pitt

Sure it is possible.

But Fina's words are his words, and he did willingly choose to say them. He certainly could have also simply deflected the question, e.g., said : "I don't know, and I frankly think that the question is rather irrelevant at this point, given that Paterno is dead."

The exact words from that interview, for the record:

Keteyian: “Do you believe that coach Paterno was part of the conspiracy to conceal — to cover up the crimes at Penn State?”

Fina: “I do not. And — and I — I’m viewing this strictly on the evidence, not any kind of fealty to anybody. I did not find that evidence.”

I'm not a Paterno apologist, I believe in his moral guilt. But I am not convinced he was a part of a cover-up.

Fair enough to those with an opinion of "Paterno was a part of a cover-up and he would have been indicted had he lived", but I find the words from the DA pretty darn hard to spin.
Don't you think he is also a politician, pandering to his voters wishes?

You shouldn't feel shame for any of your acts. However, you should feel shame that your school coach and administrators failed protecting young boys for over a decade. Unfortunately, many of you do not feel any shame and you feel victimized. If this is you...then you should be ashamed that you hold football at PSU as more important than the welfare of children. Which in a small way....makes YOU just as guilty as the others.

Exactly...just like the state representative (Michael Regan, Republican from York) who wants to name the bridge after JVP.

Whatever it takes, as long as it gets votes.....

Sure ........ I for one accepted the penalties and did not complain about them when they happened. Penn State University leadership did the same thing (signed the consent decree and did not sue the NCAA). Penn State got "early parole" as it is when the NCAA sanctions were rescinded early.

Just how long are we supposed to feel shame about our PAST (key word: PAST) coach and administrators? They aren't the CURRENT coach and administrators.

Life is not all about living in the past. It is also about living in the present and looking towards a hopeful and bright future.

When someone brings up the sanctions, I feel fully justified in saying: "Yes, past Penn State administrators screwed up. They were fired and the school served a penalty for their actions. The University never publicly complained about said penalty nor did they sue the NCAA. Each of the previous two sentences was the correct course of action. Now, we are at a point in history where those penalties are no longer in tact. Given that (a) that time frame is over, and (b) none of our current administrators are acting in an unhonorable way, I don't see much use about talking about those past events. Time marches on ....."

What's wrong with the above?

I don't disagree if that is your view. From my experience you are in the minority. Most PSU fans feel victimized. Feel the penalties were unjust. And feel little to no remorse for the actions these men took.

Nothing wrong with the above. Now go convince the cultist Joebots who if you posted this on BWI would ban you, tar and feather you if they knew you. Don't pretend that there aren't a ton of very vocal PSU fans who don't accept your narrative and noisily proclaim their victimhood.

Maybe I'm just completely out of the loop and naive (and I don't live in Pennsylvania either) ..... but all these "I heard stuff well before 2011" anecdotes astound me.

I never heard ANYTHING prior to November 5th, 2011, and I'm one who goes to multiple games a year and visits college football message boards (not just PSU) every day.
There were rumors a-plenty when Sandusky "retired".....and a few prior to that. Joe knew. Joe elected to hide it. Joe = guilty of crimes against children.

FWIW, I do post over on BWI. Some agree with me, some disagree. It's ultimately not my responsibility to "convince" them --- their opinions will be what they are.

As someone who has gone to every non-State College Penn State game except one since November 2011, I disagree as to the "ton" of "very vocal PSU fans." I don't think they're the majority.

I don't think the majority is vocal. However, the opinion is definitely held by the majority.

No one said you should BE ashamed. But you should FEEL shame about the university for letting it go on and remorse for what happened. There is a difference. As for the rest of the country, you may want to go to the Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa, and other forums and let them know that because they still talk about it. I haven't been to Nashville, but I was stationed in Texas and it was my conversations with Texans is the reason I no longer say I am from Pennsylvania, but I'm live close to West Virginia. And there is a HUGE problem when you have to say you are from WV instead of Pa.

I do believe in it and I'm sure I will have to answer to that. I'm not going to go into specifics but I also have suffered abuse as a child as well as abandonment and have been around many others, so my feelings on the subject are very strong. It is not easy rebuilding your life once you get away from it. And the healing is not as easy as many may think.

So forgive me if you are offended.

I actually have to agree with NL here. As with everything in life, the public move on to the next story. However, the fact also remains that the first thought that anyone associates with PSU will ALWAYS be the Sandusky scandal. It's kind of like Woody Hayes. When you think about him, what's the first thing that crosses your mind? His success at tOSU? Nope, didn't think so.

(Edit: I'd like to add that NL seems like a decent guy. And I understand the need to defend your school. But as good fans, we're all somewhat blinded in our perception of what people think of our school/program.)

It's the same way when you live or travel to other states. I was stationed in the military in Texas and when I would say I was from Pennsylvania, that was their first response. So the farther you get away from State College, the more the entire state of Pennsylvania is lumped in with them.

I am not offended, just thinking you don't need to be overly emotional to make your point. Bad things happen in life and you have had yours, I have had mine, and everyone has had theirs. But to use that as added fuel or some kind of excuse to wish literal eternal damnation on someone is your anger crushing your compassion.

Many nitters are completely disgusting, which makes hoping that they come to their senses and recognize their ignorance the best for hoping. Maybe then they will choose to ban their own football program out of embarrassment.

The problem with that is it will never happen. They have chosen football and money over the well being of children. I'm sure if you dig deep enough, you will find most of them have chosen football over other higher priorities.

I was in Chicago a couple of weeks ago when Tim Beckman was fired from Illinois. The radio show I was listening to was talking about the mess Illinois football is. They talked about last years schedule and this year trying to find possible Illini wins. When PSU came up, the shower jokes started almost instantly.

Anyone who did wrong deserves punishment. Sandusky is in prison. Mistakes were made and PSU accepted their punishment. We accepted he worst fine ever handed down except for the SMU death penalty. We accepted it through the consent decree...if we decided to fight it, we would have never been punished. That is a reality many don't like to hear but it is true.
We also paid $60 million and helped set up a foundation to help prevent child abuse. As a father who also happens to be a PSU alum...I would agree with most PSU folks that children's safely should always come first.
I cannot feel shame for another man...and I won't feel shame for someone else. That is not my role. I am a loving husband and devoted father who would do anything to protect my own as well any other children.

I think that is totally an unfair statement to say that all Penn Staters would choose football over children. That is just no true.

Hey Pitt girl...thanks for your thoughts and comments. All the best to you. Have a great weekend.

I never said all penn staters. I know not all of them think like that. But you are on here defending the indefensible when it comes to paterno. That is the problem. I'm not saying he was in on it. I'm not saying he participated. I am saying he knew and did the very least he had to do. And I don't care what anyone says, for a man in the position he was in and has the power he had, he did not do the honorable thing. He did not practice the "success with honor" that he preached. Argue that all you want.

And the second thing that irritates me is the penn state fans who act like they are victims of this whole thing. The only victims are the children whose lives are destroyed forever, as if they didn't already have it bad enough. They were kids who had it hard and one man made them feel like they were something good. He did it using the penn state football team, coaches, and facilities. He took advantage of them in a horrible way. People knew, and no one did a thing. Those that tried were threatened in some way. So coming on another message board defending him, penn state, or anything else having to do with this makes you just as bad. I'm not singling you out personally, just those who try to defend all of this. You know how we feel, you know how everyone else feels. So why do you keep coming here trying to defend it? Show some humility instead of saying "we paid our price", try saying nothing. If you tried that approach, maybe people would leave it alone. Those who won't leave it alone after that are just as bad. But you can't do that, you HAVE to defend all things penn state. You deserved the death penalty and because of politics and money, you got off easy. And that 60 million is a drop in the bucket to a university like penn state. Your school and football team will make that up in no time.

I think that is totally an unfair statement to say that all Penn Staters would choose football over children. That is just no true.

By the way, maybe you cannot feel shame for someone else. But you seem to be able to show pride in someone else, your team, the players, the school. So if you can show so much pride, then you should be able to feel shame. And if you think you can't feel shame, try humility.

How can you not know that any time you show your pride in penn state to anyone outside of penn state, their first words to you are going to be "oh, you mean that school that let all those kids get raped?" It's not just Pitt fans, its everyone. That's what I hear when I tell people I'm from Pennsylvania. So I don't even say that anymore. How can you not figure that out? Try saying nothing, and maybe it will go away. But most penn state fans can't do that.

There was no rape scandal at Vanderbilt. There was a rape that occured, discovered by the school and reported to Metro Police. The guilty parties were kicked off the football team without ever playing another down and the situation played out through the justice system.

How is that a scandal?

This point I can somewhat agree with. However, the HC involved at the time did lie about the situation. Also at the time of his hiring, there were questions as to how much knowledge he had and whether he participated in attempting to cover it up. Yet, he was hired anyway.
