I was watching the PSU / Michigan game, not only to root for PSU to lose, but also wanted to watch the performance of some of the local players.

Here is the boxscore:

https://www.espn.com/college-football/boxscore?gameId=401112226

Hudson – was his usual solid performance. Of all the local players that went elsewhere, he and Winovich are two difference makers Pitt could have really used.

Wade – I know he’s Pitt fans favorite punching bag, but he had a pretty good game. His 7 tackles and 4 solos was helped the cause. Kudos to him…

This was a big game, on a big stage, in front of big crowd…

So, my question is…. where was Donovan Jeter? You remember Donovan… He was the guy that was quoted as saying:

“I don’t want to play for a mediocre school,” he said. “I don’t want to play for a team that goes like 7-6. I want to go to a school that plays in the big bowl games or plays in the College Football Playoff. I don’t want to go to an average school because I don’t think I’m an average player. I want to make big time plays on a big-time stage.”

The problem is, most of the time Donovan ain’t playin’…. He’s either injured or part of a three-man rotation at ONE of the DT positions. In addition, that position is being pushed by two freshman that were recently praised by Harbaugh. Face it Donovan, you’ve been average at best. You wouldn’t be seeing much playing time at Pitt either…

I think that goes to him being soft. A lot of us said his motor was soft and he wasn't that strong of a player. His lack of playing time shows that we were right and it wasnt sour grapes

Not to sound like a jerk about Wade, but a lot of the times you saw a completion, he was covering them, which helped with the 7 tackles. He also had several penalties. He got lucky on the fourth and goal play because the Michigan player dropped the ball in the end zone. He was open and Wade was covering him.

Well yeah Jeter played earlier in the year but he was doing nothing. And how our DLine is playing........I guess my comment to Jeter is, "I don't want Defensive Linemen who can't get off their blocks and make plays. I prefer to have Defensive Linemen who can physically beat their opponent and make big plays."

At the end of the day, now 3 seasons into the time on campus, it is clear Pitt did not need Wade or Jeter. Pitt committed better players that recruiting cycle at both positions.

Hudson clearly was a loss based on his play over time but finally they have put it together at the field LB position that he would play at Pitt.

Once again, it is not about the kids you miss on, it is about the kids that you get. No one misses Lamont Wade when you get Paris Ford. Same thing with Jeter and Jaylen Twyman.

You always want as many solid players as possible in your program; that said, as long as Pitt gets them from somewhere, even if not home, it is okay. I, like many others, wish that the hometown kids would be a little more receptive to the program at times, but it is what it is.

If Pitt wins 9-10+ this season and next, they will commit great kids both from home and elsewhere. The class already committed for this year is outstanding so far and that is just from coaching consistency and winning the Coastal. They provide more incentive for kids by getting over 10+ win barrier and the gates will open, I think.

Yes his man made a bunch of catches in front of him. He was beat on the TD drop that would have tied the game.

I was at the game last night at Psu.I know you guys hate Wade because he went to PSU but he's playing well right now. He was 1-1 a lot last night and held his own.Last week at Iowa was probably his best game ever, he is improving. He's tackling has gotten a lot better this year. I watch him because he's a Wpial guy and I hope all of them play good no matter what uniform they're wearing.Of course that's the coach coming out of me.Rumor is He's graduating and gone from PSU after this year. I'll take him as a grad transfer down here below the Mason/Dixon,we need help!

Wade was a complete d*ck after he committed. THAT’S why Pitt fans don’t like him. His mouth is bigger than his play.

He is NOT playing well. He’s the weak link on that defense. They are lucky they haven’t played a good passing team yet. On way too many plays, his man is the one catching the ball.

Iowa isn’t exactly a great offense, so I wouldn’t use that as an example of a great game for a defensive back. Iowa played 2 good defenses and scored 3 and 12 points - 1 TD total against both combined. Iowa St. isn’t a very good defense and they scored 18 against them - 1 rushing TD. They only scored 26 against Purdue - 2 rushing TDs and 4 FGs.

He put his name in the transfer portal before this season but pulled it back. He’s not going to get faster nor taller.

Watching him in high school I don't think I ever saw a worse motor. If the play wasn't right at him he seemed disinterested.

Wade is small and isn’t covering well. We don’t miss him at all. His skill set is better suited to offense.

Hudson on the other hand...

I don’t think Wade is that bad. Definitely not a star and probably has only a slim chance at making the NFL, but I’ve seen a lot worse DB’s than him this year.

Jeter is a different story, unless something comes together real soon he looks like a total bust.

agree. If Wade was here, where would he play? Corner? Offense? Maybe Hamlin at corner Wade at safety? I would have liked him but Hamlin & Ford are better.

I dislike Wade because he and his old man are first class douchebags. Shrimpy got lucky that Bell dropped that pass.

OK you experts convinced me Wade sucks!Sorry I said I thought he was playing well this year.I guess I just have an untrained eye for talent, thanks for straighting me out.I just can't see how Psu is the ranked #6 in the country with all the dead wood starting for them.o8 I think the problem with Brister was he was having problems with his assignments early in the year, now he seems to be playing more.He has some talent but hell what do I know about talent?Iowa's safety Geno Stone from New Castle is also having a good career in the Big10.

The dead wood is #38.

The linebackers and offensive linemen that go elsewhere concern me more than skill position players.....also the big time qb's that are from this area would be more of a get if you ask me.

My only comment is it works both ways. There were players (who made the NFL) who wanted nothing more than to come to Pitt but was not recruited.

I think you guys are being a bit too hard on Wade. He played the bulk of his minutes and was decent. Made some plays. Now, is he better than Hamlin or Ford? No. No way. So that is fair, but he doesn't stink.

Jeter now? He wouldn't see the field here. Hudson obviously would be a star anywhere.

I do think what we are seeing....is perhaps some of that snobby "we are better than Pitt" crap starting to cease, because in many cases, Pitt has better players than those WPIAL superstars thinking they are too big for Pitt.

Then again, I understand, part of college is to be on your own, and kids today are even more likely to go away to school and break away from family and friends and also now with social media, it is easier for kids to go away to school and still be very connected to home.

Thing is you should want to play for a school where you will get a lot of playing time and a better chance of going pro. Playing for a great team loaded with talent but not getting much playing time does little for your future. Why so many of these kids enter the transfer portal so quickly. Too bad they don’t have better people around them giving them better advice on which school to attend

Yes. Exactly. I have said this on these forums for years, "a business decision". Take Paris Ford. If he goes to Alabama, and he struggles with the playbook for a year or so, is he recruited over? Here, he has had every chance to take the job, and he finally has done it, and is on a trajectory to possibly be a really high draft pick at some point. But at an Alabama or Ohio State, if you aren't producing right away, many times you just get recruited over.

Let's see what happens with Jurkovec at ND. Book is a Senior. If Jurkovec isn't the starter next year, he never will be.

Every kid in every program is recruited over. In Pitt's instance, they will struggle to find better kids at certain positions. Hence, a kid could struggle but have more rope at Pitt.

It's a good and bad thing. Good for the individual, might be good for Pitt long term, bad for Pitt when they compete vs schools who recruit so much talent that it's a pure meat market.

Not so fast my Friend. ND does that weird red shirt thing where "no one red shirts", but you have to be asked back for a 5th year. Elgibilty wise Book is a junior though academically he is a senior. So great possibility he comes back next year.

That's correct. ND always lists the academic year, not the athletic year.

Oh......that's right. Thanks for clarifying that.

Why does James from State College play a terrible player in Wade? You'd think he'd want his best 11 out there on D.Someone better text him and tell him Wade stinks before they lose a game because of him!

I posted earlier, I thought the writing was on the wall for Brisker to come in and start. Thought that was part of the reason for Wade entering the portal. So to Wade's credit he persevered and beat out Brisker. He is far from terrible, and would contribute here (not start over Ford or Hamlin), but I think he is their potential weak link on a strong defense.

I still wonder if Wade would have been best served as a slot guy on offense.

Slick I watched the Iowa game and went to the Michigan game.It seems like Wade and Brisker are sharing time in the base defense and then Wade and Brisker are in together in certain packages. I rewatched the Michigan game today( because I don't have a life) to see how terrible Wade was against a very mediocre team, according to some.Beside the 2 penalities he did OK,Michigan's WRs are very good. It's always nice to see Wpial guys doing well, especially when one is from a Class A school.
