Roster Openings to be filled

Unless Pitt loses transfers out via the portal, there might only be 3 open ships to fill. Since no one from Pitt has yet to announce for the portal so maybe no one will. If so, IMHO the greatest needs for the 3 slots are for a quality big, a lights out 3-point shooting forward and a quality true point guard.

It would help more if Amadasun and Payton would transfer and open 2 more slots —possibly for a second good big and a second excellent 3- point shooter (either guard or forward).

We can hope against hope.

Oldapo needs to leave. I don’t have much hope, but rosters can be filled out via the portal. Not saying Capel is capable of doing this unfortunately, but there‘s a chance ha. Trying to be positive, but it’s been 4 years and the results are putrid.

Payton, Oladapo, and Amadasun couldn’t crack the current rotation. Any good staff would have been recruiting over them for the last 4+ months since they saw them in person day in and day out. Any good staff would have at least 2 good incoming freshman already lined up and then use the last 3 ships for transfers.

Think how positive you’d be if they signed 3 4* kids and they turned out to be as ready to play as Jeffress . Pitt needs guys ready to play ACC ball yesterday .

Even if everyone on Pitt begged Capel to come back, there are 3-4 players who will be "cut." That’s just the reality.

Not every player coaches might like to have move on is eligible for the portal or to have graduated. This will be a limiting factor to roster change.

He's had some good success with transfers: MO, Burton and Sibande.

Look, Capel is terrible and should be gone but he saw something in MO and he added Burton. That's not bad.

It's keeping and developing players where he's struggled.

In todays game freshman unless they’re special are a risk compared to guys who’ve played a couple of yrs of college ball . Not only are the portal guys more physically mature they’ve played a couple of seasons against better older players and are easier to evaluate .

If JC brought in three guys who showed potential, but weren’t ready for major minutes in the ACC and he loses 20+ games he’s gone . Let’s hope he finds 2 MO’s and 1 Burton !

I completely understand the transfer portal philosophy and agree with it for someone in his position. Not questioning that. I just don’t believe he’ll be able to get enough to make enough of a difference. And as I said in another thread I think his chances of getting anyone with more than 1 year of eligibility are less than ever as hot as that seats gotta be.
