Rutgers

And we were also almost as bad vs WVU in game #4--as bad in the 2nd half, certainly.

That being said--you are right about Rutgers volatility--But it has mostly been volatile to the upside for them. They have has several blowouts of teams similar in rating strength to teams we beat comfortably but didn't blow out.

Was meaning that they produced blow-out wins vs teams similarly rated to teams we only beat by low double digits after some struggles.

Most of these posts are more than fair but a couple of you guys are are pieces of work acting like Rutgers is beneath you anymore. Those days are long gone.

I really enjoyed watching Pitt in their heyday early and mid 2000s and always pulled for you in the NCAA Tournament, but Jaron Brown, Chevy Troutman and Sam Young ain't walking through that door.

I say this as a Rutgers fan. Plenty of programs have been good, bad and then good again while RU has always just been bad...lol

So I don’t think it’s unreasonable for some Pitt fans to think they have a superior program.

Also avoiding the football board like the plague. No surprise about the negativity after the last two games.

The only thing that worries me is that Rutgers was able to produce blow-out wins vs a number of their weaker opponents while we struggled some vs similarly rated weaker opponents.

I see us having some more ups and downs this year. I feel we can beat
Rutgers, but also wouldn't be surprised if we lose. We're in rebuild mode,
either could happen IMO.

Rutgers is on an upswing. This game will be tough. I think Pitt wins, only because we have played a much tougher schedule to date. I don't think it will be easy and will more than likely be ugly.

He is doing such a great job that he will be fired at the end of this season after finishing last in the Big Ten. Rutgers is terrible. If we lose to them, that's not good.

SMF said what???

Rutgers was as bad as I thought. Sure they have a few pieces. It would be amazing to have a Big as "pretty good" as Myles Johnson. Baker and Harper can do a few things but that's a team that's going to go 5-15 and finish near the bottom of the Big Ten. This is Year 4 for Pikiell. That simply isnt good enough for anyone including Rutgers. He isn't recruiting at the level he needs to and if Capel's path follows Pikiell's we'd be saying he should be fired. I dont see why Pikiell should get a 5th year. That Rutgers team is only about as good as the bad Rutgers teams we saw in the Big East.

As always, thanks for your opinion.

I say RU goes 7-13 in Big 10.

I'd be surprised. I thought they were worse than Northwestern. I'll say this. Pikiell didn't inherit a good situation at Rutgers but there's no excuses to me about recruiting. I dont care how bad they were. Recruits only care about who the HC is. 4 years in and he hasnt come close to an NIT bid. Capel inherited perhaps the worst returning group of players in P5 history (4 guys off a team who went 0-19) and if his records here mirror Pikiell's, Pitt fans will be irate.

Here is Sagarin's pecking order (prior to yesterday's games) for the Big 10 (Pitt opponents in bold) so we can see where Rutgers was fitting--

Note: It will be changed once today's update is out--probably around noon-ish. Rutgers should drop some and Northwestern should go up some.

3 Michigan= 90.83
4 Ohio State= 90.79
5 Maryland= 90.69
14 Michigan State= 88.41
22 Penn State= 86.41
31 Indiana= 84.91
40 Purdue= 83.64
48 Iowa= 82.45
54 Minnesota= 81.73
57 Illinois= 81.44
62 Rutgers= 80.79
68 Wisconsin= 80.37
134 Nebraska= 73.96
148 Northwestern= 73.27

It will be intersting to see how the ACC changes also. Yesterday it was--

2 Duke = 91.51
7 Virginia = 89.98
9 Louisville = 89.15
10 Florida State = 88.69
15 North Carolina = 88.33
51 NC State = 82.35
60 Notre Dame = 81.29
61 Virginia Tech = 80.89
67 Syracuse = 80.43
71 Georgia Tech = 79.88
77 Clemson = 79.56
84 Pittsburgh = 78.92
88 Wake Forest = 78.71
90 Miami-Florida = 78.36
127 Boston College = 74.64

We should go up some. FSU and Cuse should drop. Miami should go up also, perhaps?
