Screw Goodell the fix was in

Google Calvin Johnson rule
We know the effin rule it is a bad rule and in my opinion the was misinterpreted on this play. James catches the ball and hits the ground under control. The lunge for the goal line should have been considered after the catch and the play should have been dead when the ball broke the plane of the goal line.

The suggestion wasn't that the play was dead when both knees and an elbow touched the ground, rather that the "catch had been completed" with full control of the ball. If anything, say he "fumbled" as he broke the goal line and then "recovered" the fumble.

For the NFL to interpret that play and their own rules as an incomplete pass defies basic common sense.
Absolutely

Right

The play on the field was ruled a TD. To overturn the play the review official needed indisputable video evidence that no only the ball moved (which there was) but also that the ball touched the ground. The ball can move but if it doesnt touch the ground its a completion. Its was not clear to me that the ball touched the ground so the play should have stood.

hire romo as coach because he was calling every play before the play was called

or maybe keith butler is just the only person dumb enough on the planet to allow sean davis to cover gronk all by himself

No way rooting for him today

Always root for the kid that chooses Pitt to have a good day but hoping for a Steelers victory. Rooting for cult boy to catch the ball on that play, but that didn't work out so well either.

Main culprit is they stopped trying to score with a 8 point lead. Against a QB like brady every possession needs to be a score. Up 8 they score and the game's probably over. then up 5 they were still to conservative. That and the Ref's give NE every single close call. One penalty, on the last drive their was a obvious block in the back but no call. You telling me NE didn't hold one single time on the OL? There is one team in the NFL that has had this may calls go their way tuck rule etc etc etc. NFL wants NE to win and doesn't care how it happens.

no you go for the win, you don't beat the pats by being passive

the problem was fat head throwing into quadruple coverage
And a huge mistake was taking the air out of the ball on the the two drives before the Patriots took the lead. Knowing how the Patriots score, you can 't go into those 2 possessions with the idea of just running clock.. You have to play aggressively to score.

You know what there are so many coincidences it does make your mind wonder.

The ball moved when he brought it down to touch it down inside the end zone. If he had been touched, it would have been a completion down at the one. How can not being touched make it incomplete? That makes no sense.
I think the call was probably right by NFL rules. I don't know if the ball hit the ground for sure or not but it probably did(one could make a valid point that it wasn't conclusive and the call on the field should stand) the issue I have had and brought up on this board before, is the rule needs changed because it makes a catch open to interpretation. I don't want ref's watching a call on replay and making a judgement call. A football move is just to vague. Make it one step or two with a separate rule for the endzone and live with it. As long as its consistent and any fan can watch the play and say its a catch or not is what matters.

If you have possession of the ball and cross the goal line, then it should be a TD. The NFL creates all this nonsense. The “tuck rule”. Who is the dope that came up with that one?

where there is smoke is there is fire. No way NE gets all these calls go there way, Jets game steelers game and the famous tuck rule! The NFl wants NE to win and there is a directive to do so at some level. My issue is I just can't understand why? You would think with the cheating they would get most calls to go against them. Is it because they are a very white team? I don't know.

If he catches it in the end zone and bobbles it to the ground, it’s a no brainer incompletion.
That he caught it, came to the ground with possession- and then lunged into yeh end zone , with full possession, and the ground - after the goal line- caused it to become dislodged -
So it’s an incompletion-

Is assinine.

Sb but it’s not.

The ball hit the ground and it moved. It was not controlled thru the play.

Hits the ground but no move, it’s a TD.

I agree!
The knee can be down but if noone from NE touches him its a TD unless he didnt complete the catch.
Numbnuts suggested the play was dead since his knee was down which isnt the case in the NFL!

I wasn't saying that at all Puss...watch the play again...Noone touched him a mills second after the "catch". I know the rule nccaa versus nfl!! Sounds like the misses isn't getting it up the ass enough.....I guess you aren't that proficient in the ways of women only using wise cracks/ insults to muddle the waters ...a Sam Kinnison you are not!!

OT but I thought the job Romo did was one of the best jobs of coloring a game that I've ever heard. He really added to the game without the fluff that some other guys put out there.

A lot of people on this thread clearly don't know the NFL definition of a catch. There are two parts of the rule that are in question for the TD.

#1. The receiver is only considered a runner if he remains upright after the catch and is able to perform a football move. A football move is considered the ability to evade, or attempt to evade, a tackler, or to be upright and turn upfield.

- James was in the air, going to the ground when he made the catch and lunged the ball over the goal line. He never became a runner, so the ball crossing the goal line is irrelevant. The goal line has no bearing on the call, the same play at the 40-yard line is the same call as at the goal line.

#2. If the player is going to the ground during the catch, the receiver must maintain possession of the football through going to the ground. It does not matter if he is considered "down by contact" or simply falling to the ground, the receiver has to maintain control the entire time.

This is the tough one because the ball moves a lot when he hits the ground, including jarring his left hand above the ball. I don't think they should have overturned the call based on the replay, but I also wouldn't have argued if it was called incomplete on the field and held up in replay.

Oh don’t you get it??? Only the Steelers get screwed by a correct call!

Actually the call/rule is moronic, but this exact same thing happened to Dez Bryant and Dallas in a playoff game. In that case it was 4th down in the 4th qtr. Bryant's catch was overturned, Green Bay was given the ball, they ran the clock out and won by 1 point. Imagine losing a playoff game in that manner.

In both plays the players caught the ball and made a football move to reach the ball over the goal line. In both plays there is no video evidence of the ball hitting the ground.

James did not become a runner.
He did not maintain control through the play, which included the ball coming in contact with the ground.

Given that there is replay.....what’s there to argue.

until the NFL can produce a replay showing the ball hitting the ground overturning the touchdown was an incorrect call. Saying the ball "moved" means nothing, you have to show it hitting the ground to call it an incomplete pass

That catch was made, once he broke the plain of the goal line it was six. The follow through doesn't mean anything. Once the nose of football broke the plain, touchdown. Kraft and Goodell are buddies, plain and simple.

THIS!!! This is not the Calvin Johnson or Dev Bryant rule - he gained possession in the field of play and then broke the plain of the goal line with possession - the fact that the ball hit the ground in the end zone should be inconsequential.

You might think that it should be, but that is not what the rules say.

By the way, ESPN says that Brown has a partially torn calf muscle and the Stillers are hopeful that he'll be able to play in the playoffs.

All they are saying about Conner is that it's an MCL injury.
