St. John's Game & Other Dribbles ...

I don't hate Capel. I don't hate anyone. He's just a poor basketball coach.

I see how the players interact with him vs. how they interact with each other. It's getting pretty obvious.

I'm trying to give these kids the credit they are due. They are carrying the burden.
Once again if you blame the coach when things are going poorly , but won‘t give him credit when there’s any positive signs your not being fair . JC isn’t the devil and he’s not the worst bb coach in the history of bb , he’s just not the right coach for Pitt right now .

Fair enough. I just happened to look at the NET rankings the other day and the formula escapes me. I can't see Minnesota staying at 33, but then again, maybe the a few wins against the top half of the Big10 will counter-act a few inevitable losses against the bottom half?

I don't know what a 6-12 SEC season will do to Vandy's rankings.

I hade no idea SJU was rated 113 in the NET. Are these updated daily or weekly? I knew the OOC was weak, but does that account for the Pitt loss?

Pomeroy has Minnesota 71 in the country and 11 in the Big Ten. Vandy is 84 overall and 10 in the SEC. St. John's is 78 overall and 8 in the Big East. There's still a lot of season to play, but none of those seems particularly egregious. It certainly is possible that one or more of them will end the season much worse than that, but it's also possible that one or more of them could improve.

For comparison--Sagarin's rankings of Major Pitt opponents played (through games of 12/19)--

West Virginia #36
Minnesota #46
Virginia #53
St. John's #66
Vanderbilt #104

Pitt is #156

Haven't seen him play but he was pretty spectacular at Minny.

For you or any others, how would you draft a combined 17/18 and 21/22 team? Going based on the player's ability from that season only?

I still think Hugley is the only real difference. Put Hugley on Stallings and that team is better. Sit Hugley for a game vs Stallings and I think the Stallings team wins.
Spectacular? Really? The coaches of the Big Ten didn’t think so. They voted him 3rd team all league by the time the season ended. He did have a spectacular start but he came back to his mean. Take a look at his shooting percentages. He scored points because he took tons and tons of shots.

I'll gladly give him credit when things go well and he's the reason. Things haven't gone well yet this year. The teams we have beaten are as bad or worse than we are. We had some close losses also, against some mediocre teams. What I'm saying is that any positive that we can squeeze out of this team this year is coming from the grit of these players, not from the coaches. At least so far.

If Capel can win 6 or 7 ACC games against the better teams in the ACC, and he can get his recruiting to the point that he at least has some commitment from a top 50 kid and a few top 100-150 kids, I'll give him credit. It's all about results. He's getting paid a helluva lot of money to produce results and he's come up short for the past 3+ years.

I don't pay his salary, at least directly. His fate is up to those who do.

I’m not arguing about the overall results of the program, but no one wants to give him any credit for developing Justin or for some of the good wins he’s had here . ( Duke ,Syracuse, FSU ) . Unfortunately they don’t outweigh the negatives .

Giving credit to the players for not quitting on a season that looks troubling , to say the least , while not giving the coaching staff any credit isn’t being fair .

Yep - you're right. I was only looking at NET, which I know many say is just about as silly as RPI. I didn't think there'd be such a variance on Minnesota. Those numbers seem about pretty accurate in reality going off of eyeballs.

They got 9 teams in, including 3 teams as either a 1 or 2 seed. There were simply too many "impossible" games for that Pitt team. There's no way that Pitt team goes winless in this year's ACC. Duke may be the only team to even win an NCAAT game.
How difficult was Pitt’s OC in 2016-2017? How did. We do In a year before the rebuild?

Calling Marcus carr spectacular is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen. It also plays right into my efficiency argument you asked me to stop too lol.
