My list is 2 East Coast/Midwest guys who are strange fits at West Coast schools and one up and comer.
Mick Cronin has always been my home run pick for Pitt coach. He’d fit this program and city like a glove. I know that everyone assumes he’s headed to Louisville but, if that doesn’t happen, I’d be on the phone immediately doing whatever is necessary to make this happen.
Bobby Hurley would be another intriguing fit. He’s not had the success of his brother as a coach, but I always thought it was such a strange fit for him to go out west to a school that just doesn’t have a ton of funding for hoops. Having just had a former Duke star, this probably won’t fly from a narrative perspective but I’d love to see what he does in a job closer to his regional wheelhouse.
Lastly, I’d look very hard at Josh Schertz at Indiana State. He’s not going to win a press conference but the guy has a very impressive resume and has quickly turned around a stagnant ISU program.
