This is another tough one for me. Krauser was great but so was Gibbs. How many clutch 3's did he make for us? What a luxury having close to a 50% 3 point shooter for us every game. First team all Big East, etc...

But Krauser was clutch too. A floor leader. I debated hard on this but I got to give the edge to Gibbs. But it's a real tough choice for me. Maybe not to others but it is to me.

Ashton. A part of two #1 seeds and not a nut case

Krauser made 2 Sweet 16’s and the NCAA all four years that he was there. The guy was relentless. Pitt went on a downturn during Gibbs’ Senior year and Pitt ended up in the CBI. They both were good players and had their strengths, but that is the difference for me.

Fair point. I still say Gibbs was more impactful for us. And to be fair Aston's senior year we didn't have nearly the same supporting cast for him. Ashton couldn't do it all himself.

I say Carl. The will to win puts him on top Ashton IMO.

Same

I mean the pacific game in the ncaat- he seemed to be the only one who cared and nearly pulled it off single handily
That's one game. How about the Big East quarterfinal game in 2011 against UConn where Gibbs made all of his 3's, including late to tie it. We lost but he singlehandedly kept us in the game. Plenty of other examples of Gibbs' clutch shots.

Real close one. Either guy is arguably better than the other. I give it to Karl Krauser though.for his slightly more complete game. Plus his leadership and feistyness.

Krauser played on two teams (2002-03 and 2003-04) that were truly elite and by some metrics worthy of #1 seeds. KenPom ranked 2003 at #3 and 2004 at #4. Krauser led the 2004 team in points and assists. As has been stated, he played on two Sweet 16 teams, played on a Big East tournament champion.

I remember Jim Calhoun praising Krauser after his career ended, saying something like "all he did was win games."

Krauser and Gibbs were both great Panthers, and both highly accomplished. I give the edge to Krauser. If he's a nut case he's my kind of nut case.

Krauser, easily.

Gibbs was a limited player with one exceptional skill. Krauser was much more well rounded and still outscored Gibbs. I think if Gibbs' senior season had been on par with his junior season, this would be a difficult question, but instead he turned in one of the worst seasons from an otherwise good player that I've ever seen.

It's not the only way to judge these things, but it is interesting to note that the best Offensive Rating of Krauser's career, 106.3 his sophomore season, is worse than Gibbs' worst Offensive Rating of his career, 109.3 his senior season.

Krauser: 99.7, 106.3, 106.0, 104.5
Gibbs: 117.5, 116.2, 127.9, 109.3

That junior season for Gibbs, 88.9% on ones, 43.9% on twos, 49.0% on threes, 64.3 True Shooting Percentage.

That Gibbs stat seems dam near outrageous. Any idea where that ranks as an all time season? Hard to imagine there are too many better but I’m not too knowledgeable. Thanks.

Joe, where did you get those offensive rating numbers? I looked on Sports Reference but their per 100 possession category didn't go that far back into the Paleozoic.

2T) 2003 Donatas Zavackas, 126.8, 17.0
2T) 2009 Dejuan Blair, 126.8, 26.3

5) 2006 Ron Ramon, 124.6, 14.4
6) 2003 Chevy Troutman, 122.9, 20.8
7) 2013 Dante Taylor, 121.3, 17.4 (again, limited minutes)

I meant nationally but this is still interesting so thank you. Don’t know what’s involved so I’m not expecting anyone to dig too deep and spend a ton of time on it. Was just wondering in the event it’s readily available. But thanks again for this info.
