HYPOTHETICAL: can WTAE pick up games from ACCN or is ESPN determined not to allow them that option?

You are raising my blood pressure. Hypothetically, what sense would it make for ESPN to allow WTAE to do this? They are trying to get Comcast to carry ACCN, why would they give away the Pitt game for free? I am sorry but that is a ridiculous question.

It won’t be. This guy said it would in an earlier post.
Gotcha. I was just wondering where this talk came from (I didn’t see that someone mentioned it), as I don’t recall there ever being a college game blacked out.

Right now I am able to watch ACCN unauthenticated on my iPad through the ESPN app. When I put in my DirecTV information it says there is an issue that they are working on. However, when I log out and go back to the ESPN app and select ACCN without authenticating it works. I have Comcast internet. FYI.

Interesting. Everyone should give it a try and see what happens.

Having an ACC Network is no big breakthrough if it has less accessability than CBS SportsNet

Everyone will have it eventually. This stuff takes a bit of time. I'm a little surprised it had the carriage it did from Day 1.
Just sucks as a Pitt fan in Maryland, I've had SEC Network since the day it started, and I can honestly say I haven't watched a minute of it ever, I have B1G Network, we have THREE channels of that, I've only watched it when Pitt was on it, and the kicker is, Maryland jumping to the B1G as soon as Pitt get's there to the ACC! Right when I was going to drive to College Park to see a Pitt football game there, plus if Maryland was in the ACC, guaranteed we'd have that channel now.

Based on quotes from ADs in the ACC, both before and after the launch, all have stated distribution would be over a 3 year period, and all projections from prior to launch have been spot on and even ahead of schedule.

People running around claiming this is a failure have no clue (and there are kooks out there claiming this). This has been probably the second most successful sports network launch behind the SECN.

Maybe he's just getting you back for all of the "tarping" threads you've started over the years.

I can't wait for the uproar from "fans" who are only Pitt fans when they have something to beat them up for... "I can't believe they aren't even on local TV!!"

I feel for all of the diehard fans that are used to loyally watching every game on TV and now they can't or they have to spend money to do so.

No. They. Cannot. Not trying to be a jerk but the game is on ACCN nationally and exclusively. It’s the same concept as if the game was on ESPN, ESPN2, etc. Have you ever seen one of those national TV games offered to a local affiliate?

Besides, what would be in it for ACCN/ESPN to offer the game to a local affiliate?

i thought it might be possible for big games because WTAE is an ABC affiliate and ABC and ESPN are under the same parent corporation and have flex agreements in the NBA etc. They're both Disney/Hearst and use the same teams for broadcasts.

Myself, I'm not claiming it's a failure, I'm just pissed I don't get it, and get reduced access to Pitt games right now. I don't want to have to change my TV plan or pay more or anything like that, so I am not personally happy, with the ACCExtra last year, I had great coverage of ACC and Pitt on Comcast. See I don't go around and change anything or pay more money just because they change stuff up on me, I basically always just say F THEM and just not watch those games.
Have you ever read “Who Moved My Cheese” ?

There are no such things as "blackouts" in college football and there never has been, at least not in the last few decades. For college football, it couldn't be simpler. Games are televised by a network. You either get that network or you dont.

Perhaps not officially but I get crummy, second level B1G games instead of Pitt when Pitt is the primary game. Wonder why?

Fwiw I do go to almost all home games and have for a couple decades. But I'm not going to spend $50+ a month to add a streaming service just for Pitt road games. Our family doesnt have cable and I don't want to spend time watching more TV.

My questions about CBS and ESPN were business curiosity, not self interest.

Yes I have, so I just plan to miss the game, I'm not changing my TV plan, I'm not adding any services I need to pay for, I don't use these illegal streams anymore, they are poor quality and viruses pour in, I'm not going out of my way to find a bar in Baltimore that shows it, so F it, I'll watch them when they play on a channel that I get.

Lots of options to see it. Not sure why there are those who are whining they can't
List out the options you know of, that don't involve changing your cable company or adding a streaming service you need to pay for.

Honestly, you probably couldn't change your cable company between now and Saturday anyways. They'd probably say, our next appointment is September 12, do you want AM or PM?

You could just sign up for a free trial of either Hulu Live or YouTube TV. Cancel immediately and you'll be able to watch free for a week.
You can keep your cable then, no switching.

I used to go to every home game.... WHEN I LIVED IN PITTSBURGH. I would now too, if I LIVED IN PITTSBURGH still. Personally, I hate driving I hate driving really bad, if it's more than ONE HOUR, I start to get bored, so yeah, I will go to maybe one or two games per year. So of course, watching on TV is my primary option.

I don't even want to do that, then I get on their mailing list, emails, maybe calls. I'll just not see this game instead.

Why are you messing with his head after he just made a declaration of protest?

You are cruel and evil!

That is what I am probably going to do, but question is, for football, how many other games this year will be boxed in like this? Looks like three options to get a one off on a free trial.

Also, going to be the same with hoops, I assume.

um, the millions that are necessary to run all the sports a college participates in come to the power 5 conferences through TV deals. I don't like it either, but, all the conferences have moved to this. Or, we could be in the AAC

Those funds promised to ACC members won't be available if they don't make the deal with outlets as big as Comcast. With Comcast having a presence all thru the east and south, that is a hugs chunk of revenue.

This is why I am confident a deal will get done. Hope it doesn't take months or years.

This goes back to a generational chasm IMO. Some, presumably younger, sound extremely comfortable with the streaming structure, joining different services each week, maybe multiple of them, figuring out how to maneuver to specific content in them, maybe using it for 2 hours max (maybe less if the game is a dog), then going through the rigamarole needed to cancel them. Then figuring out how to pull the same for the next X away games (maybe home games also). The cheap bastid in me finds that admirable. The old tired coot in me finds that exhausting.

THIS!
I have too much life going on to go through the song and dance.
Five years ago I did list of all my things that had pass words and it was 100.
Five years ago ...
We shuffled a bit on the cable and are using Netflix and Prime, and that was a drain on the tech brain getting over that hump.

It will get done. It may just take some time. Once the omnibus deal is up, Disney will force them to take it as it will be bundled with the other Disney networks. But for Comcast that may be 2020 or 2021.

It will be on the ACC Network only. The ACC Network will black it out in the local Pittsburgh market.

Made wrong assumption. Apparently I am living mentally in the distant past when home team games were blacked out unless sold out--or maybe I was just thinking of how it was in the ancient days of the NFL.

Yes that is the NFL rule, and still is I think.
In college no, or almost all home games would be blacked out.
