USA Today's early 2017 Top 25

What's even funnier is that they drop Clemson to #9 because they lose Watson but for the most part the entire D is back.
With a big question mark at QB, you can't rank them higher just yet.

The reason FSU is #1 is because of how good Deondre Francois is expected to be.

When Harbaugh gets Meechigan to the NC 2 years in a row, I might give him the nod. Until then, just conjecture.

At 9 million/year, Harbaugh should already have 2 NCs. UM is going to need a lot of fresh faces to fill big roles; can't see that happening consistently against teamsome outside of the BIG bloated conference.

Hypothetical question: If both guys picked up the phone and begged to be our head coach, which coach would you choose?
It would be a easy choice for me. Both guys recruit Top 5 classes every year.... Swinney has a top 5 offense every year and is a genuinely nice guy and easy guy to root for. Jim Harbaugh always comes up JUST short in the big games, both pro and college... is a genuine first-class asshole... and would leave as soon as the going EVER got tough.

Swinney all the way.

Hard question. But I'd have to give the nod to Dabo only because as '89 said above, he's just more likable AND he's gotten closer to the NC than Harbaugh has ever been. Unless and until Harbaugh delivers at that level, I'm Dabo ALL the way.

I'll put it another way for TD.

Please list one objective, observable trait or accomplishment of Harbaugh's that is better than Swinney's?

It's an easy choice for me. Swinney's better. Harbaugh's all hype and just a complete ass.

Harbaugh had very good success at Stanford. Obviously the 49er's stint left a lot to be desired. He has recruited very well at Michigan. Beyond that, not much else at this point. Dabo, Dabo, Dabo!!!!!!!!

You gotta be kidding.
No... not kidding.

Swinney has had more success at Clemson than Harbaugh has had at Stanford or Michigan.

They both recruit Top 5 classes every year.

Every time a Harbaugh-coached team has a chance for a big win, they blow it. Both pro and college.

There's not one observable, measurable way in which any sane person can have Harbaugh ahead of Swinney.... except in hype.

Harbaugh has the hype in spades.... that you've bought into, because you're a Big Ten Syncophant who ... despite all evidence to the contrary, thinks the Big Ten is one of the Top Two conferences in college football.

There is nothing that Harbaugh has over Swinney. Nothing. And your inability to list even ONE single objective measurement or trait in which Harbaugh is better has been noticed. When your only response is "you've got to be kidding"... it means you've got nuthin'.

Penn State will fall back in September. Guess who schools them again ? Im sure the same voices will rise again saying Pitt is inferior. Same folks every time. We own those dopes.

I'll respond after the game.

Take a look at the shape of the programs/franchises before Harbaugh arrived. More later.

Would you trade Pat Narduzzi for Gene Chizik? Chizik is more accomplished ya know.

Take a look at Clemson before Dabo arrived. "Clemsoning" was a thing. Pre-season Top 10 teams that ended up 8-4 was a thing.

Dabo changed the culture there... More than Harbaugh changed the culture at Michigan so far.

uh. Harbaugh has been there 2 years. He changed the culture at 4 different places in the time frame Dabo has been at Clemson.

OK. Goes back to if/when Harbaugh can get Michigan to the NC 2 years in a row, until then...?

Yeah... the culture for the SF 49ers is *SO* much better now than it was during their heyday.

They're slightly better than the Browns. He sure left a winning culture behind.

But I'll give you Stanford, they are definitely better off than before he got there.

Harbaugh doesn't suck.... but he's at least a notch below Swinney as a college football coach. They both recruit, but Dabo wins more... and his teams show up in big games better.

And in about 30 minutes, if this drive goes well... he might just be a national champion.

I am not even a Harbaugh fan, but some of the posts in this thread are just completely ridiculous. He inherited a team that went 1-11 under Walt Harris in 2006. Here are Harbaugh's four years at Stanford:

2007: 4-8
2008: 5-7
2009: 8-5
2010 12-1 (ranked No. 4 in the country)

Stanford had not finished as high as No. 4 in the country since 1940, and had finished ranked in the top 10 just four times since World War II.

Not disputing his success at Stanford. The question is who would you take Swinney or Harbaugh? RIGHT NOW.

OK. Goes back to if/when Harbaugh can get Michigan to the NC 2 years in a row, until then...?

Larry Coker went to back to back championship games. Was he a great coach? Hell no.

Les Miles went to 2 NC games. Was he a great coach?

Harbaugh has been NFL Coach of the year, been to a Super Bowl and flipped 3 college programs.

If you think Dabo would win more at Pitt than Harbaugh, you're nuts.

Dabo has now done something that Jim "choke" Harbaugh has never done and will likely never do.... win a championship.

He's a champion. Harbaugh never will be.

At Pitt. Harbaugh. EASILY. Its not a choice.
Because you have Big Ten blinders on and think everything that comes out of there is gold.

Swinney is the equal to Harbaugh in recruiting.... and is better as a coach. Harbaugh is a bad coach at crunch time in the big games.... and he'll never be a champion because of it.
