I totally hate how hard it is to make the NIT now with all the auto qualifiers and cant believe they can't expand it or have some other made for TV-type tournament where P5 schools with winning record who dont make the NIT can play in. And I dont want to hear that if you dont make thr NIT, you dont deserve the post-season. 6-6 and 5-7 teams go to bowl games.

Anyway, I think to be safe, it has to be 18-13, 9-11. But the crazy thing is at 19-12, 10-10, we might get an NCAAT bid depending on who the wins are against. At 17-14, 8-12, I'm not sure we get in, especially if we lose on Tuesday in the ACCT.

Did you mean 18-13, 9-11?

This is what I have been saying for years. I think if they finished 17-14 they would definitely not make the NIT, and at 19-12 you'd be on the NCAA bubble.

Taking a look at the whole conference though, this is a pretty bad year for Pitt to build a resume. The ACC looks awful. 10 of 15 teams with Pomeroy ratings 40 or higher.

Could the ACC get only 5 in?

We could have 4 1-2 seeds in Lou, UVa, Duke, UNC. Add in FSU as maybe a 4-5 seed. Does anyone else get in?

You are right about the resume thing and its what I've been saying for years. The teams at the top of the ACC are too impossible to beat. The teams at the bottom are RPI anchors and you only get 3-4 games vs those middle teams. Spitting those games isnt enough.

BTW, I think we are seeing the SEC's uptick in recruiting finally take its toll on the ACC. There are guys in the SEC now that never would have played there (besides UK and UF) even 5 years ago.

Brings me back to how I would run tournament selection if I ruled the world.

I would use computer selection to place the top 64 teams. Next, I would place all auto bid conference winners into play in slots. Then I would place the next 32 computer ranked teams into the NIT.

So if a team like UNC would win the ACC, would they have to play a play-in game?

The NCAAT is fine as is.

I'd make the NIT 48 or 64 teams though

Probably get consideration at 17 wins but 18 is more like it.

I agree with this and that's why Pitt needs to win the games they can/should, then hopefully win a few toss-up games between teams like 7-12-ish. I'd say Duke/Ville are the top, then UNC/UVA..both those teams lost by like 20+ last night.

It's beginning of December. Way too early to start writing teams off, however the conference isn't nearly as strong as it was last year.

Pitt has a legit shot to win 9 ACC games.. maybe more. There are a ton of beatable teams.

Here is my two cents on rest of our schedule based on early season happenings:

Should be wins (7): NIU, Binghampton, Canisius, Wake (H); BC (h) Miami (H) , Syracuse (H)

Should be losses (5): @ Louisville, @ UNC , Louisville (H) @ Duke ; UVA, UNC (H)

Toss-ups: @ Miami ; @ Syr; @ ND, GT, Clemson, @ VT ; @ FSU; @ NCST, @ GT

Have 7 in my mind we SHOULD win and 5 we should lose which puts us @ 14-8 and 5 - 6 in ACC play the other 9 will determine our fate.

I think we can win the Road games @ Syracuse and ND as neither has been impressive, I think the road game as @ Miami, FSU, VT and NC State will be tough to win but GT can be had both on the road and home if we can split with them and pull the home game with Clemson we end with 9 wins. Find a way to win one other one puts us at 10 ACC wins and NCAA bound?

Honestly could see us anywhere from 7 to 11 ACC wins. Going to be a fun season to watch with how wide open the ACC is.

It's hilarious to me that you have people saying NCAA or NIT for Pitt when as recently as last week they were so sure that Pitt was not a tournament team.
And if Pitt starts losing they will go back to that and say "I told you ".
Make up your minds weather your a real fan or fair weather fan.
But I just love the bandwagon hopping , makes me laugh.

Pretty normal, people jump from love to logic based on emotion. I'm guilty as anyone else.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with assessing each game performance as it relates to post season possibilities. It brings quality discussion without making anyone a “fair weather fan.”

Good point. Real fans don't change their thoughts on how good the team might be based on more games being played. Real fans know at the beginning of the season exactly how things are going to play out, and they never deviate from that line of thinking right up to the bitter end.

Is that your definition? If I'm a real fan I know before play starts how it will turn out? So a real should also be a real multi millionaire crushing sports books across America?

Real Fans kick ass and speak their own language, yeah! They chit bricks and never have to worry about wiping, yeah!

I obviously completely disagree, and will throw out it's entirely possible and logical to be a real fan yet have moments of doubt and you speak about what you don't like.

It's almost as if you completely missed the little "Er.... what?" smiley at the end of my post.

Can't we just go out and enjoy watching them play? It's way too early to be speculating about NIT or NCAAT. Let them play 5 or 6 ACC games first.
