The Morning Pitt: 3/13/2023 - Pitt is dancing again

After six years, Pitt is back in the NCAA Tournament, and on today's Morning Pitt, we're talking about what it means for the Panthers to be dancing again, plus their matchup against Mississippi State, the path ahead and more.

Factors needed to win tonight

1. We need to get the loose balls. We seem to many times swatting a ball around and not simply being the first one to grab the ball
2. Inside guys need to stay out of foul trouble. Their biggs need to be double teamed by our guards and force passes outside to their mediocre 3 point scorers
3. Foul shooting period
4. Lots of penetration and force their guys inside to foul
5. Few turnovers
6. Will Federico Federico play

Result: Iowa State

How Pitt wins tonight…

ON DEFENSE:

Get in good defensive position, hold your ground and draw charges on their big man. Don’t try to block shots…DRAW CHARGES ON SMITH!

ON OFFENSE:

1. Shoot 3s.
2. Burton attacks Smith 1-on-1 in the paint. Ball fake Smith out of position and draw personal fouls.

Main goal: Foul Smith out as early as possible.

Then Pitt takes control of the game and is victorious!

I'm glad we're in the First Four

I'm not sure what people are thinking when they say it doesn't count as making the tournament if Pitt doesn't win tonight. Did you not hear their name called on Sunday night?

We're playing a winnable game tonight against a solid opponent, and I'm looking forward to watching! You should be too. More meaningful Pitt basketball games are good for fans.

I’d be lying if…

I said i was worried about tonight. Mississippi State is the Kirkland brand Virginia. They’ll stop us for stretches, but our shooting will prove to be far too much. Hearing that Capel will lean heavily on Nate Santos tonight to help guard one of the best Centers in the SEC. However, as one famous Pitt QB put it, 28 points is not the highest scoring offense in the ACC man! Pitt makes shots, defends good enough, wins by 12. On to Iowa State…
