Kenny Payne post game

I stink at linking things but there is a video going around with Kenny Payne saying there was a possession where he saw what would happen before it did and that his player was out of position. He said he started yelling for him to “get here get here get here”. The player didn’t get there and the ball swung to the Pitt player who hit a 3 in rhythm and turned to him and said “he didn’t get there coach, too late”

Said he loved it and he wants his guys to have that edge/talk in them. I would love to know who it was who said it. My guess is Nike.

Capel has now tied...

...his own HC record for ACC wins during the regular season. Nothing earth-shattering, but he has accomplished this in less than half the amount of games he needed to do so in the past 3 seasons. It's even possible that Jeff Capel could improve his overall Pitt HC record back to .500 this season.

Capel's Pitt Record:

We all know (or have been told) the ACC is a bad basketball conference this year (yet Lunardi still has 7 teams in his bracket). With K & Williams out of the league and some other traditional powers (Cuse/Lousiville) down, the conference is prime for the taking. If Capel can capitalize on this season and get us into the tourney and land some bigger recruits with that momentum, we just may be on our way up for good. Somebody has to rise from the ACC ashes, so why not us?

If they can get the Zoo & Pete back to rocking at the level of old, we may just have this thing really clicking. BTW, my most memorable Zoo experience was back in 2011 when #5 Pitt jumped out to a 19-0 lead over #3 Syracuse. It was so loud, I remember not even being able to hear myself think.

Feldman on Pitt

During Feldman and Mandel’s latest podcast episode they spoke about who they considered “sleeping giants” in CFB. They mentioned Louisville and South Carolina before Feldman mentioned Pitt. His reasoning was: good recruiting footprint, shared facilities with the Steelers and an amazing football history. He thinks Narduzzi has done a good job, but both guys agreed that seasons like 2021 should be a more frequent occurrence.

I thought it was interesting to hear a national guy like Feldman talk about how highly he thought of the Pitt job.

Hinson waning...

Elaborating on a very quick point made on the L'ville game thread: have loved the contributions made this year by Bryce. But his game has been lagging noticeably the last couple of weeks.

Two factors to note:
1. Fitness - Bryce wouldn't strike anyone as a ripped and buffed marvel, but of late I'm getting the sense that his body is toting more good livin' than he showed in the earlier part of the year
2. Prior seasons inactivity - I think I read where it's been a couple years since Bryce played a full college season? He may be coming up on hitting a "wall" of sorts, the type that hits minor leaguer baseball players coming on their first full MLB season.

I'm hoping that this staff is seeing the same thing, and addressing this with the player - in terms of enhanced fitness training as well as rest to allow his body to catch up.

Between Hugley's conditioning and Mr. Hinson's, some questions gotta be ax'ed of the training staff.

The Morning Pitt: 1/17/2023 - Does Pitt have a WR problem?

Between recruiting misses, transfers and NFL departures, Pitt's receiver room is looking mighty thin for 2023. How did the Panthers get here? And how can the coaches fix things? We're breaking it down on today's Morning Pitt.

up to #52 NET and #60 KenPom RPI

I get the QUAD data and SOS, but there is silliness in the NET rankings.

St Mary's at #8, I know they're good every year, but #8 is way high.
Boise St at #19, sure....
Creighton #20, they're 11-8, don't you have to win more games than that to be #20?
Ohio State #28, they're 10-8, perhaps win a few games Buckeyes? 2-5 in the Big Ten...
Indiana #32, they are not that good....2-4 in the Big Ten..
Oklahoma State #46, they're 10-8, maybe actually win more than just playing good teams?
Sam Houston #47, 9-5, sure....

The Morning Pitt: 1/19/2023 - A blowout win on the road

Pitt didn't just beat Louisville on the road Wednesday night; the Panthers positively blew out the Cardinals with a 21-point win to improve to 6-2 in ACC play, and we're talking about that game and more on today's Morning Pitt.
