Seam Routes

It is almost comical at this point how teams continue to beat this defense with slot receivers, running backs, or tight ends running straight line routes up the middle of the field.

It honestly feels like opposing offensive coordinators are just waiting for a critical moment in a game to call the play.

They put in a formation where they know that Pitt will blow the coverage. Probably from film study during the week instead of looking at an iPad on the sideline.

We have seen the same route run against us by Cinci, UNC, Cal, Syracuse, SMU and now Virginia. Every team on that list scored a TD on that pass except Syracuse.

Kudos to the other teams for exploiting a weakness, but at some point you need to look at yourself in the mirror and figure out why it is a weakness.

Our staff and players don’t seam to want to do that though. Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.

H2P

We still need further clarification on the 5th Down

Can any local journalist get a non-ACC source? I refuse to believe that snapping the ball before the officials are ready is just a do-over. As I have said, if this is the case, teams should just snap the ball while the defense is substituting so they can stop the clock late in the game. Why would you wait for the defense to jog guys in and out when time is of the essence. Snap the ball and get the free timeout and do-over.

Penalties

3 offsides in a row on the defense
3 offensive penalties in a row from the
2 yard line??? That’s poor coaching and lack of discipline The 10th game of the season and this happens??
I don’t think Clemson had better players but they did have better coaches.
Play calling in certain situations has me scratching my head. Well coached teams
improve in most all areas as the season progresses. 7 and 5 is probably their final record and lose the bowl game. I feel sorry for the players.

Article Pitt's 24-20 loss to No. 20 Clemson defined by the team's own mistakes

From Pitt’s rocky start, to a valiant comeback bid, to its deflating loss, there are mixed emotions surrounding the Panthers’ 24-20 defeat to No. 20 Clemson at Acrisure Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Pitt fought like crazy to grab its first and only lead with 1:36 remaining in the game. The Panthers battled courageously with their backup quarterback against perhaps the most talented team they have faced all season.

In the end, it was still a loss, and the third consecutive defeat at that.

The Panthers, once 7-0, are now 7-3 with two games remaining in the 2024 regular season. The best start for this program in 1982, was nothing more than that. In college football, finishing is also imperative, and this particular Pitt team displayed over three games it is lacking that trait.

10000% on coaching

I have NEVER seen such an undisciplined team. 3 offsides in a row, all these wrong formations. How do you get a penalty for illegal formation coming out of a timeout that shouldn’t have been called in the first place! It’s a miracle we are still in this game. Any semblance of coaching we’d be winning this game. Thankfully the D is playing well.
