Nelly, and next up Brandin…

Told you all, years ago. But so many had to hurl insults at fellow Pitt fans who wanted nothing but the best for the program and to watch a homegrown talent flourish.

Brandin Knight also knew.

Is what is was… water under the bridge now. But perhaps it’s an example of why fellow Pitt fans can’t just treat each other with respect, when we are all in this together to begin with. Maybe think of that before being a complete jag to one another.

Hail to Pitt.

Thanks Jeff

I have been very critical of Capel over his time here, but I have always said that I sincerely hoped that Jeff could turn things around here, no matter how improbable it seemed.

There was a reason a lot of Pitt fans were excited when he was hired 5 years ago. It is a shame that it took so long for all of us to get here, but we are here now. It was very interesting to hear Tony Bennett talking about how he was happy for Jeff to win that kind of game.

I'd like nothing more than for Jeff Capel to be the first Pitt coach to ever start 5-0 in the ACC.

Three Pitt Commits in Televised All-Star Volleyball Tomorrow

Or today for those of you in the East. 4pm on ESPU.

Olivia Babcock and Blaire Bayless will be
playing for Team Phantom and Torrey Stafford will be playing for Team Speed.

That’s 3 out of 27 players. Quite an impressive testament to this recruiting class, and it should be a good recruiting tool for Fisher in the future.

A good chance to see Pitt’s future outside hitters.

Will Gipson back to Pitt?...

A post on the other board stated that former Pitt WR Will Gipson spent a year at NM State but did not appear to play and then a year at a JC.

I realize that is this a long shot and I think I know the answer, but as Pitt needs WR is there any chance Pitt would be interested in him returning to the program?

Does is have any eligibility left?

When he entered the portal I realized he was deep on the depth chart but he was one player I hope would stick around and develop as he was a very good athlete.

What's different?

So what is different this year, as compared to years past. These are the things I notice. Would love to hear your thoughts.

1. They play as a team on both ends of the floor. This team seems more connected, the ball moves, they help on D and, as of now, the sum is greater than the parts.

2. I don't see egos. Seems like the guys share a common goal. I don't know that was always the case.

3. They are resilient. Being down double digits to Virginia is a tough mountain to climb. Those kids and the coaches really battled. It'e fun to see.

There is still a ton of basketball to be played and I'm still skeptical. Saturday becomes a huge game. Can't have a let down at home to Clemson. In the past, Saturday is the type of game that has been a stumbling block. Hoping that the year is different. H2P

End of game UVA thoughts

I cannot believe we are good. I really thought this was going to be another sacrificial year. This is such a welcome change of events. I have some thoughts, mostly on the end of the game.
  • I think that Capel is really on to something with the older player transfers. Most of these kids are closer to their mid 20s than teenagers. It makes a big difference.
  • In prior years, being down by 12 points at the 4 minute mark of the second half meant we lost the game by 20. This team is mentally tough and fought back, starting with the Sibande 3.
  • Under 4 minutes to go, we are up 60-55 and we had just a string of bad luck to tie it. The shedrick toilet bowl shot falls and Federiko pulls down a rebound that would have been an easy putback but falls on his own player. This is when Cummings had his best/most clutch play of the day. Wide open Federiko for the layup and a lead we never give up.
  • Holy hell is it amazing having a PG shoot 95% from the stripe.
I really hope the Pete is rocking this Saturday. Pitt vs Clemson with first place in the ACC on the line...just like we all thought ha ha. We can really get the vibes flowing if we can beat Clemson, especially with Duke on deck.

Patti replacing Slovis wouldn’t have changed much

So since everyone has Patti fever, let’s go ahead and play out the hypothetical what if that everybody’s dreaming about right now. Slovis played very well in the first 6 quarters of the season and had over 500 yards passing at halftime of the Tennessee game when he got hurt. Patti wasn’t available for Georgia Tech so he doesn’t play regardless, so Pitt loses that game no matter what. Plus no staff is benching Slovis after his play the first two games.

Patti was available for the Louisville game, so let’s say that he is put in the game in the second half and Pitt comes back and wins. Great, Patti doesn’t play defense against UNC and they still lose that game. Pitt finishes 9-3 instead of 8-4, and goes to the Cheez it Bowl instead of the Sun bowl. Whipty do.

I like Nick Patti, he is a gamer who was a great back up quarterback in his time at Pitt. However, not putting in Patti the second half of the season doesn’t change Pitt’s fate at all. All keeping him on the bench did was give this board something else to complain about.

Injuries, lack of talent at wide receiver, lack of talent tight end, and a ton of injuries in the first half of the season sunk the so-called dream season that many Pitt fans had envisioned. Slovis, Patti, Yarnell, Greg Cross, Pat Bostick, Kevan Smith at quarterback, it doesn’t matter. Pitt was what it was this year. It’s Narduzzi’s job to fix it and make sure the offense doesn’t go through it again in 2023.

Meaningless Bowl Games!? My left nut

I blew my knee out in the days before arthroscopic surgery and my recruitment by colleges stopped cold.
But I did play.
I find it funny that so many people refer to the recent bowl games as meaningless yet they still comment on them.
Most importantly, the bowl games this season somehow were the most entertaining, competitive and exciting in my memory.
Our Sun Bowl played out exactly as I thought it would. Young guys getting to play a quality foe on national network TV with the best announcers calling the game. A kick ass reward for practicing in relative obscurity all year. I credit PN and his staff for embracing the “opt out” culture and turning lemons into lemonade.
But most of all, I was thrilled to see guys playing because they love to play. Who could have written a Tulane script a year ago? Not me. Go tell their players that game was meaningless. Good luck.
The only games not watch worthy were the ones where Big Ten teams (Purdung) getting participation trophy bowls when they clearly had no business being there..but even those were few.
Better still was the crow eaten by the talking head fools claiming these games were meaningless.
Those clowns are the type of people I like to avoid and am thankful they identified themselves.
Maybe I’m wrong, but I see a brighter future for CFB in large part because of the transfer rules. The expanded playoffs will help.
Sorry so long.

Pitt Basketball is Fun

Man. Don't get me wrong. Last year's ACC championship was awesome! Sauce time! But I fell in love with Pitt through basketball. And I'd probably willingly condemn the football team to 3 win seasons for eternity for a hoops natty (Yes - I know both can be good!). And seeing this team win back-to-back top 25 games is just so fun. I missed this so much. I don't know if a collapse is coming or if this team will make the tournament or what. But I'm going to take it game by game and just enjoy the ride.

Hail to Pitt, baby!
