OT: Poor PSU Fans Complaining About The Weather.

As long as I can remember having my office in Century City (since 1981), the Big Ten fan hotel has been located across the plaza. They use the open area right in front of our office buildings for their pep rallies, band concerts, etc.

Although I retired 10 years ago, I still go back to the area occasionally as I have a number of friends there. Meet one early yesterday morning for breakfast at our go-to coffee shop. Lots of hotel guests go there. There were a few people in there wearing PSU gear.

Our waiter had no idea I went to Pitt. But, he volunteered how obnoxious and bitter the PSU fans have been all week. Why? Because of the weather. It’s been raining and in the 50s all week. They all think they are entitled to sunshine and 80 degree weather. I guess he has been there a few years because he said the best Rose Bowl fans are the Cheeseheads.

As bad as PSU fans may be, at least they — and most of the Big Ten fans — show up. I remember when Miami played here since it was for the national championship. I didn’t see more than a dozen the entire week. They didn’t even schedule pep rallies or a band concert.

Is PSU the worst Rose Bowl team of all time?

No wins over ranked teams
4 wins over teams with winning records (1 of those being Ohio U)

Those guys live a charmed life. Whether its getting just a wrist slap for institutional child rape or getting great bowl games for beating Rutgers and Indiana, not sure anyone has it better than a PSU player or fan. They can lie down twice a year and then get 10 wins for getting off the bus and find themselves in Pasadena. They are like the college football version of white privilege

OT Rose Bowl, etc.

What is your favorite way for Penn State to lose? Any loss is fun, but for a favorite I’m torn between the predictable beat-down like any year against Michigan or OSU, or the kind when they snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, which has happened too often to count. I really like it when, as the tide is turning and the losing feeling is wafting over Beaver Stadium, the tv shows Head Coach James Franklin acting as if he is in control and knows what to do. That always makes me smile.
But the best Penn State loss I can remember (other than any of the losses to Pitt of course) was Illinois last year. That loss was so ridiculous, it really doesn’t have a category. It was epic fun, and anytime I am sad that will make me chuckle.

Reactions: Hail2PittPanthers

Georgia, Alabama, OSU, Clem & Mich…

Those are the only teams to win more games than the 20 Pitt has won over the past 2 years. PN has built a program!

What makes the 20 wins more impressive is the long list of “big name” programs Pitt has outperformed. Programs like LSU, Auburn, TXA&M, Oklahoma, OK St, TX, FL, Miami, FSU, USC, the cult PSU, etc. These programs have huge financial advantages in NIL $, Recruiting staffs, Alum donations, fan support, etc.

Graham Wilbert, Karlo Z, Adam Caultry & Alex Klien…that’s our recruiting staff and they do a heck of a job. All of the schools listed have at least double and in some cases 3 times as many people on their recruiting staffs. In addition theses schools have way more quality control assistants (many times former head coaches or coordinators) than Pitt has.

I could go on and on about the enormous financial advantages these schools have over Pitt. But most get the point. To summarize, PN with major disadvantages has done an unbelievable job. Glad he is our coach!

What Coach Gavin Had to Say About Pitzer's Redshirt

Hey, guys. It took me a little while to catch up with Coach Gavin after Midlands, but I did tonight and will have a couple of stories this week.
As @greekpanther reported on another thread, Pitzer is No. 5 in Flo's rankings. After his great showing at Midlands, the plan is to pull the redshirt and let him wrestle ... almost assuredly.
There's still some hesitancy to throw him into the lineup in every dual, just because a worst-case scenario would be to have him wrestle six dates, get injured and miss the postseason anyway.
But, as of now, he will be wrestling in the ACC Tournament and, assuming he qualifies, the NCAA Tournament.

OT: Pitt’s Volleyball Future On ESPNU Today at 4pm

I posted this in Olympic Sports but I think more will see it here.

ESPN is televising a HS All-Star women’s volleyball match today at 4 pm Eastern time. 3 of the 27 players have signed with Pitt: Outside hitters Olivia Babcock, Blaire Bayless and Torrey Stafford.

I don’t know if any other school has as many. I doubt it because teams only get 8 full volleyball scholarships and giving out 4 in the same year is unusual. But, between transfers and graduation, Pitt is losing 4 scholarship players this year. Still, having 3 of the new players selected for the all-star game is quite an achievement.

With Vasquez-Gomez being our only returning outside hitter of note (Dalton was injured much of the year) these three are likely to get an early baptism under fire next Fall.
