Will Playoff Format Be a Disappointment?

As someone that wanted an expanded playoff (you know, settle it on the field), I’m getting a weird vibe with these playoffs.

Maybe it’s because we tanked after as late as early November we thought we had a shot. Maybe it’s seeing PSU do well. Maybe it’s the blowouts. But I’ve probably watched two total hours so far (NFL and holiday stuff a factor too).

But maybe it goes beyond that. Is it the lack of real contenders outside the top half? Is it just a huge home field advantage when you are a better team? Is it that college football moments are built around rivalries?

NFL playoffs are awesome because you watch a group of teams that you know very well slug it out. Who knew 2 months ago that your appointment watching would be Indiana, Boise, or SMU. College football feels “big” when you have big rivalries or elite teams playing each other to win at all. It’s had none of that, and I think some of the ticket demand reflects that. I mean the PSU thing shows that many of their fans would rather go to a meaningless night time white out game, because creating that is more important to them than this (at least early round)

This all might change in the subsequent rounds. And I’m not not saying go back. Just saying it’s been underwhelming and I didn’t think it would be.

For those of you who think the ACC TV contract sucks

At least we arent the Big 12. WVU is in a nail biter at Kansas right now but the game isn't on TV. I went to watch it but can't. Its stream-only on ESPN+, which costs $11.99/month and there's not enough I want to see on there to make that worth it. Most folks in WV don't even have internet access. What a sucky deal.

Then, you get all these B10 games on frigging Peacock. More money, I know, but you can't beat "free ESPN" from a viewer's perspective

Pinfall or pin

The Trib is saying that Keslar lost by a pinfall, which I understand to mean that his shoulders were held to the mat for a count of three. Are 6 points only given for a pinfall but a wrestler could conceivably escape from a pin and the match could continue? I always thought that 6 points were given for a pin, so pinfall is new terminology for me.

Question for those most knowledgeable about the rule book ...

In the technical foul fest in the first half ...

GDG got a dunk, and Austin picked up the ball and tossed it DJ Campbell who threw it back at Austin.

Both were called for technicals, and the refs go to the monitor and Szelc gives Capel a T.

California hits 1 of 2 and Pitt gets the ball out of bounds.

I'm not 100% sure why Pitt gets possession there.

At first I thought since Pitt and Cal both got technicals, it went to alternating possession, but that wasn't it because the arrow remained with Pitt after the play.

In the play by play, Austin and Campbell are both charged with technicals and turnovers.

The only thing I can figure is that Zach gets his T first and (and is charged with the turnover then -- even though Pitt doesn't have possession? -- in scoring, you simply cannot have a turnover without possession as I would understand it).

Then Campbell gets his T and turnover giving possession back to Pitt?

(Capel's T has no impact on possession).

Maybe I'm overthinking it. Maybe the refs just screwed up.
