1st try at a Pitt YouTube channel

Been waiting for this one. The ally oop from Knight to Page is my second favorite moment ever at the Pete (behind the Fields ally oop to Young.)
The Fields alley oop to Young is my favorite all time play at the Pete, as well. I was a student at the tome and my “seat” in the Zoo was actually a standing room only spot behind that basket. From where I was, I could see that play unfolding, and it was just amazing. It’s funny, because on the broadcast (which i’ve watched several times now), you’d probably think that pass was going to Brad, until all of a sudden Sam barrels in and slams it home. What a play, what a game, what a win!

On the replay you can see Sam look at Levance and flash his thumb up to Levance to throw up the ally oop.

Sam Young and Aaron Gray both registered double doubles against West Virginia in the quarterfinals of the 2006 Big East Tournament.

That Marist game was fun. Such a big Marist front line. Do you have the Oklahoma game to round out the trilogy?

That might have been our most talented starting five (87)? No offense to 88 or 09, and not saying it was among our deepest or best coached teams by any means though, but that was a heck of a starting line up.
I don't believe I kept the Oklahoma loss that year. In 1987, I didn't think I would be in this position I suppose. Sorry.

The Panthers shot something like 65% in the second half to overcome West Virginia. The Panthers were without Talib Zanna who broke his thumb earlier in the day and then had to overcome Gilbert Brown foul trouble.

Dominic Dumancic (who eventually played at Pitt after sitting out a year for Prop 48).
Dunkin Danny Griffin from Crenshaw High School in LA went to UNLV then Rhode Island. He never amounted to much.
Jamal Faulkner who went to Arizona State, then Alabama. He was a really good player.

Eric Mobley went to Allegany CC for a year then came to Pitt.
Chris McNeal sat out his Prop 48 then had a strong career at Pitt.

This was post-Calipari recruiting which shows it was a myth that Evans could not recruit without Calipari performing his "magic".

From December 1986, Demetrius Gore scored 15 of his 20 points in the second half for the Panthers.

Nice. I do think today's players tend to be better outside shooters, better athletes, better informed by statistics and just less...chubby. But watching these old games, the old school guys knew how to pass, and also fake pass. The fake pass is like as much of a lost art as the hook shot.

This one reminds me ... can I request the game at Villanova in 2011? It was College Game night and another huge win without Ashton.

After the game, the interviewed Dixon and asked how they were able to beat Villanova and he says: "Our Philly kids played like Philly kids!"

Still hoping to the 2002 BET tourney win against Miami when Brandin scored 20 and handed out 14 assists.

Big East semifinal nights are just electric. There have been much, much bigger wins than this game, but I don’t know if I’ve ever been so happy after a game, just being in NYC, knowing Pitt would be in the finals, Brandin looking like an absolute superstar.

hows about this for a request...do you have the Pitt-UConn BET game with Cummings and Blount? I think it was the third time we beat them that season, and for a brief second it seemed as if Willard had some momentum here.

I love watching these Big East Tournament games! We were so fortunate to have a run of success in that tournament from 01-08 after years and years of one and done. I saw us lose the championship game in 04 and the semifinal win that year. Went to the whole tournament in 05, the one year during that stretch we went out early, and went to the title game in 08 when we beat Georgetown. I’m 43 and that night was possibly my favorite sporting event I ever attended.

I’ve seen both BET tournament championships. All our games each year. Nothing has come close, not including watching my kids play. Watching my kids play is better. I get misty eyed sometimes thinking about watching my daughter play high school softball games. She played with the same intensity as those panther teams.

Coaching my Son's team to a 6th grade team to a Championship run (3 years ago) was the greatest three game stretch I've ever been a part of.

Too bad @Jeff_Hauser has no video of this.

Unfortunately I don't seem to have it and not sure why, sorry.

In don't know if the point guard position can be played much better than Brandin did in the first half. (11 points -- 8 assists).

Christ... you contrast Knight/Krauser/Fields to Goodson or even Miller? Holy crap... no wonder those teams just floundered. Vonteego was a better PG than either Goodson or Miller. I know a lot of it has to do with coaching but jeez... Goodson and Miller seemed to excel at one thing in the half court: dribbling.

I don't understand ... why is this comment directed at me?

Sitting hear watching the 1981 eastern 8 finals.long before I was a Pitt fan.the one thing that sticks out is how much the game has changed.no shot clock,no three point line and the game seems to be a bit more physical.and you could get away with more than you can now.Anybody on here watch or see that game live back in 1981? And you also had Mike Rice Sr. Coaching the dukes and Gene Steratore Sr. as a ref.Pitt had Seth Greenberg as an assistant and tiger Paul made an appearance.

DT. What a thrill!! I must admit though, Band Director Jack Anderson allowing me to direct the band for a few minutes in the MSG concourse after we won in 2008 is a thrill of a lifetime I’ll always be grateful for.

Man....halfway through the huge semifinal win over Louisville in 07 at the garden .... Oh how did I forget how HUGE Mr. Graves was in this game!!! Also.. how solid of a basketball player was Mike Cook?? I loved that kid

I’m still anticipating your answer. Is it possible these comments were mistakenly directed at me?

I watched it, too. I was there in 1981. Manly attitudes all over the place, no screaming or posturing after dunks.
